Rd 9 v GWS - A call to Paws!

MD what you are conveniently leaving out is that the club went to Griff at the end of the season and said can you work with Macca and fix this all up or not. Cos if not it's the end for Macca.

Griff said na it's all good. Then stuffed us.

Griff cost us two extra weeks of Macca and landed us in the shit in trade week due to his inability to take responsibility for anything.

I have heard slightly differently and we are yet to hear Griffs complete side of the story.

At no time did the club say to Griff its you or him, if they did Griff would still be a dog its that simple.

The CLUB cost us two weeks more of Macca as anyone could see he was finished and the players wet unhappy. Don't blame Griffen for the state the club was in at that time.

I'm not totally defending Griff he didn't do everything the right way but the club made more mistakes than he did and his leaving has turned out a positive

I have no issue with Griffen wanting out but it's takes a very weak and Sookie induvidual to run away so no one can contact him at all, nominated gws and disappeared so he couldn't be talked to or have other options discussed in terms of a trade elsewhere, he is a coward and deserves to be booed like one

Players agents do all the talking in contract talks

But your entitled to your opinion mate, I for one will shake his hand if I meet him

I don't care much about Griffen either way now. We as a club have moved on and scarcely miss his presence. On 2015 form you could make a case that our side is already better with T.Boyd in it rather than R.Griffen.

I understand that a lot of supporters will want to have a crack at Griffen (and it'll be good if that attracts a few thousand extra to the game) but for me he's already yesterday's man.

That said, I'm looking forward to seeing the more inspired humorous contributions. There have already been some gems. (The vitriol I can do without.)

We all know that this is a big one for obvious reasons, and I'm hoping by this stage of the season we're a very respectable 5-3 at the least.

What I want to see is the maximum number of people at this game, not just to boo Griff (c'mon, deep down we all really want to do it!), but to show our support against what we all see as one of our main flag rivals over the next decade. It's stung like hell to lose to them like we did in Rd23 last year for Gia's last game (I still blame Stringer but he's working his way to forgiveness) so we need every one of our supporters there to make sure we don't lose again.

We've cracked 30k memberships already, so I want to see 30k people at the game. To help this the mrs and I will be going with our memberships, but I'm also buying two extra tickets for anyone who wants them. I don't care what the situation is or who you'll take with them, be it granny, kids, the hot girl next door (if it is this one though the least you can do is introduce me), a couple of mates from uni, whatever. The only condition is they have to support the doggies, and HARD!

First in best dressed.

P.S. I'll probably have to have someone remind me when tickets go on sale!
Good job mate, great to see supporters thinking of ways to help the club!

He warned the club 3 times he wasn't happy how much more could he do?

The way he apparently did it wasn't great but I have absolutely no issue with what he did and we also must accept we have only heard the dogs side of the story and anyone knows all clubs lie to make themselves look better, no way is our club immune to that.

But without Griffen we have no Bev, no Boyd and no hope.

Even if you hate him for leaving he must be thanked for that
I think when you take on the captaincy you take on a responsibility toward your fellow players and the club a club in griffs case the club and supporters have been with him through a lot of difficult times and as a captain you work through those issues you don't just walk away to a rival and spit on those aforementioned.

The way he left was comical and showed he lacks character and integrity .
Put any spin you like on McCartney and their relationship, but when you tell a club legend and a director a bare faced lie, you lack maturity .
If the issue was just McCartney Griffen had the chance to have a change of heart . There was time in between the trade and the sacking.

Very briefly to Griff.... It is probably true we have ended up better off because of his departure. But that was only because our club made a massively ballsy call to hunt down and effect the Boyd trade. Otherwise we would have ended up with Pick 7 and some also-ran who probably wouldn't make our best 22. Thank the club for Boyd being here, not Griff.

But now to what I really want to talk about. I know that I try to hose down us getting ahead of ourselves, but allow me to share with you my wildest footy hopes and dreams.

I remember back in 2004 when Paul Chapman stated that Geelong were better than the Saints http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/chapman-we-are-better-than-the-saints.103768/ there was a lot of chatter about it.

A lot of people mocked the idea that Geelong - who were a collection of rookies and Draft Pick 44s led by one or two stars could possibly be better than a team that was brimming with Top 10 draft picks. Well, we all saw how that turned out.

My hope is that history will repeat itself, where we are the Cats, and the Giants are the Saints. The Giants will have 3-5 times as much high pick draft talent as we will. But I think we are better at developing our low pick draft talent than they are. And I hope that we will enjoy a number of years of classic match-ups ... just as long as we win the premierships, of course! :)

Look, I'm not saying it's going to happen. But a guy can dream. And I'd love it to start with Rd 9.

When a club uses a number one draft pick which at draft
time attracts a $20,000 dollar bonus and he walks out
after one year of service you think they would have the
right to be a little pissed.

When another club uses pick three and gets ten years of
service and then has a meltdown or massive breakdown
in relationships that culminates in a off season we would
all like to forget. To quote the Dark Knight "There is
always Darkness before the dawn" and the sun is shining
despite injury to some key players.

Reality is it's a win/win they get a player and most of his
initial salary taken care of and we get a player who can
sell future hope and maybe make our club a sexy place
to want to be albeit at a premium price. I hope round
nine is a good game and we can finally put this fork in
the road moment behind us once and for all.

The way GWS are playing, Griffen's poor form and apparent disinterest might see him playing in the NEAFL by round 9!

Yeah, he doesn't look overly committed, does he?

I wouldn't be surprised if he decided to walk away from the game fairly soon, rather than play out his current contract (4 years?).

Just a feeling I have...

They have been absolutely sh*thouse tonight. Panicky under pressure, unaccountable and Ryan has been anonymous. Hope they bring that level of effort to meet us - they'll get hosed.

They're as weak as piss. They, along with their few supporters, clearly think it's all going to happen for them. Results like this are everything they deserve.

The boys would want to be fired up for this. I hope we wipe this abysmal excuse for a marketing strategy off the face of the earth.

There's no way to positively spin what Griffen did. I can't think of a way that he could have handled the situation more poorly. Seriously, what else could he have done that would have been worse?

As to the Giants. I fully anticipate that they'll come into the game believing they can replicate last year's win. It'll be up to our boys to stand up, put in another performance like they did today and deliver us a victory that'll be far more sweet than it deserves to be.

Griffen walked out on us, nobody pushed him. It was gutless and nobody will ever convince me otherwise. Anyhow, who cares now? Nobody will harsh this buzz.

Looking forward to giving those GWS tossers the belting they so richly deserve in a few weeks.

I know the game's past it, but I'd love to see Picken come of the line at the opening bounce and clean Griffen up.

That's if he's even in the midfield, he seems a fair bit down the pecking order up there.

I will be there and I can't wait! I wish Libba was playing but I do think Clay and Picken will fly the flag well.

Last years win for them was against a team filled with people who clearly didn't want to be there, led by a bloke who wanted out and knew where he was headed and a coach with no game plan
This year were a team of blokes who love where theyre at, are fighting hard for the colours, led bya bloke with more passion for the club and the game than anybody since TJ, finally have a target up forward and a coach with a footy brain.

This result should be VERY different to last year!

Good news regardless how ordinary Griffins been, he's training standards are great . Wow! A 29 year old with good training standards . Maybe that back isn't coming along well
