Everyone knows Chris Yeend is a great ambassador for this league and all communities in the area and love the way Chris see's the positive in all situations and his passion for community footy and contribution is terrific. The debate though was around showcasing finals. Even given the fact that Rockbank ended up with a final without going over old ground, how the league schedules the marquee game of the week there and not Riddell requires investigation. Unfortunately for Macedon they cannot say anything as they will be criticized as sooking, they are under the pump, have injuries will go out in straight sets probably so needed something to go there way, but how the team that finished 2nd ends up playing at the 4th team home ground, again as said earlier this week, nothing against Riddell, they should play the grand final there one year, but that requires investigation. If the RDFNL are running a finals allocation system, and lets be honest this is a debate every year, and all we get back is well they applied for one, BUT if the RDFL are running a finals allocation system which at its conclusion, sees finals played at venues that are not great for spectator viewing or the best venues in the league then it is the system that requires investigation. This is the only time of the year that the league attracts independents coming to watch the showcase games, would a club take a potential recruit or coach this week out to Rockbank and say hey if you play your cards right, have a terrific year on field you could end up playing a big final here next year!!! Take it for what you will but it's common sense. The league is meant to lead, unfortunately the tail wags the dog too often and the dog is due to be put down.

The BFL play the finals at the best venue, One club is allocated the food, the other the Beverage, this is on a rotation system, two clubs per year, no club to miss out! No brainer really! :)

Hit the nail on the head.

Hit the nail on the head.

Spot on Slyone and HBB, the league currently has some fantastic venues, so all clubs don't miss out, rotate the bar and canteen. Simple model that works and ensures the best games of the year are at the best facilities. Then supports clubs who do the bar and canteen to raise money to help improve their own facilities.

I know this may get criticism, and is far from the subject of the exiting 3 weeks of footy we have going forward, however when will the RDFL get into the 2000's with their team shorts, the current RDFL shorts look like a throw back from the 1970's. I wouldn't have thought it would be a hard ask given the interleague teams all wear snazzy shorts for their games.

C'mon lets get up with the times

Thanks for the kind words guys .. super appreciated.. at the end of the day, we all have our roles to play in the competition and everyone does a super job ..
The venue debate is a big one .. this year the cards have been put on the table.. clubs apply, league allocates.. on the back of this year, maybe it's up to clubs to discuss with the board and push to have the league and the board appoint the best grounds and then put up the roles required for tender to the clubs in the RDFNL..
Peddo summed it up brilliantly.. Maryborough and Bendigo do the same ..
I'm not sure with Ballarat, but Maryborough and Bendigo have no more than two grounds to play finals on ..
Does the RDFNL go the same way? Unfortunately not all playing tracks can sustain strong traffic over a number of weeks.. Sunbury holds up well, Romsey is usually in good condition.. regardless of the weather .. arguments can be put forward for Clarke Oval.. as long as Sunbury stay off the ground during the lead up to week one of the finals.. it could work..
Gardiner doesn't hold up..
Woodend/Hesket may when the council fix the broken pipe..
Lancefield doesn't get sun
Wallan didn't get much sun
Broadford didn't get much sun (over the winter and the grounds remained wet)
This is based on the model of the other leagues.
Macedon hasn't come up to scratch in the last few years but is one of the best games for finals on the calendar..

Although I don't disagree that the League should be showcasing our finals, I can't see why grounds such as Clarke Oval (Sunbury) and Gardiner Oval (Gisborne) constantly get mentioned when the senior clubs which occupy those grounds are no longer in the RDFNL.

Having been involved with a club that catered at a neutral ground there would have to be a lot of work done behind the scenes to improve the way it worked - it was pretty much a disaster. Having said that, it was quite a few years ago.

Up this way the Golden Rivers had a period where they held their Grand Final at Riverside Park in Kerang. Kerang was not part of the league but was a central town and had a good facility. Those Grand Finals were very well attended especially by people like myself who played in other leagues in the region. The clubs within the league who able to apply to cater for the match at that venue

They get mentioned because historically they have hosted RDFL grand finals and as their senior teams no longer play in this comp they are a neutral venue with no perceived home ground advantage if the host club happen to make finals.

The only concern would be trying to get volunteer help for four weeks in a row on both days. Is a big ask for most clubs.

Got to remember clubs have to pay for finals not sure how much grand final is but prelim are in the vicinity if $2500 I believe.
No gate and no one putting there hands up to help , more trouble than it's worth sometimes .
Although I do know when rockbank came to the rescue a couple of years ago they were not charged anything to run the days and it was a good money maker for the club

Clubs pay massive costs to the RDFL to participate each year the finals gate takings across all the gold fields must be big $$$$$ why would you then charge clubs to run a bar and canteen it seems like take take and let's take some more these are not for profit clubs unlike the Goldfields....
KDFL I understand that all gate takings and profits are split even amongst clubs in final series ..( correct me if I'm wrong ) ....Afl must be putting into local footy and the goldfields they have major sponsorship and a cast of who knows how many just bloody get things right and support the clubs and volunteers who pay your way .....

Not even an RDFNL footy show this week
Talk about inconsistent

I guess I can let everyone know Broadfords thoughts on the venues
It been a long long time since Broadford have played off to go straight into a grand final.
I know that I along with others at the club have put in 4 years of hard work to get this opportunity so if the league said to me
Sorry boys it being played on the moon
I'd be off to book my rocket tomorrow no problem

Broadford won't win against Riddel if they bring that standard of play next week. That's if Riddle can win against Macedon, interesting. Diggers in a league of their own.

It's Diggers year.. They won't lose it this year... For the amount of money broadford are spending they'd want to bring a better effort than what they dished up...
