Wow that's a huge get. I used to watch a lot of Marby and agree he should kill it in this league. Big bodied ruckman who will give on ballers first use. I can assume it was a massive offer as Kyabram offered him plenty but went back to Barooga and now "if true" goes to Broadford all in the space of 4-6 weeks. He would be getting way over his value, but ruckman are not easy to find and always get overs. He will be the highest paid player in the league easy..

Another point on Philpott is he is not really a journeyman as stayed at Albion & Marby for a number of years. Pretty good guy I hear and rarely misses games.. The issue is yes his a good ruckman and gets to a lot of contests as his pretty fit for a big bloke, but probably only suited to one position. Doesn't take a lot of contested marks though..
Also pretty strong and has a presence on the ground which is a positive in any big guy..

PS: will he be training at Broadford or a local club?

Philpott will not be beaten in this comp, big unit, just that normally he and smith go together as the two have done Albion, marby and now barooga, big loss for the Hawks and if smith is to join he will win league BnF by the straight of flemington, broadford mids better be fit because he will be putting down there throat. Roos are cashed up!

Mate I've seen both players play in the EDFL and agree it's a good match up but Philpott will win the battle of the rucks but Clarke probably better in a set position like full forward. Has this answered your question, probably not, but both good players in any local/country comp.

I don't understand why people criticise clubs. Surely they pay there players. Blokes like Philpott should be paid every 4 weeks.

PS: I have no involvement in any RDFL club but bagging clubs is not respectful. Yes this is a forum but all clubs do there best to survive.

I have been lurking around this thread as the number of edfl recruits moving to the RDFl increases and of all the ins this year philpott doesn't rate very highly.

Struggled at Marby in his final days, is a lump of a lad but can't move very well and doesn't take any marks... May win you a tap but that's about it, people are forgetting about Cameron Wight who is 10x the player philpott is

If the smith you're talking about is Marcus, bloke struggled to make an impact at edfl level

Krul is off to Shepparton United in the GVFL. Interesting to see how he goes in a higher standard league.

Wouldn't be so sure about that with some of the figures rumored for quality players like Kenny and Wight. Justified for players of that quality. Good luck to him if you are right and well done to Broadford. Philpott may be a journeyman but he fills a vital role and will give Boyall and co a fighting chance. Certainly shaping up as a very even season.

Some good clearances in for Woodend with Govan, Styles, Downing all likely to improve their depth. Could do with some big guys.

Yes would definitely think Kenny would be on more coin than Phipot, and Can Wight is a much better ruckmen than Philpot.
From what i have read is probably the strongest year for recuits into RDFL for manny years, and good to see they are not all going to the usual suspects in Romsey and Riddell.

Smitty has committed to Barooga but wouldn't surprise me if he joined the roo's and i agree, would win the league best and fairest but the length of the flemington straight. to the other ruck men in the league, don't underestimate philpott, he is a gun and to finish 2nd in MFL comp medal is a great effort. good on B'ford.

I would agree that Philpott was a good ruckman for Marby Park

However Smith was just an Ok player in a team that was slipping, he may have improved and plays better in a good team

Smith would never have been in the leagues top 50 I would have thought

Macedon have recruited Fitzy and Hendo from St Albans too. Two very capable half backs. Is it true some rich bloke from the Mount walked in and opened the cheque book?
