See attached link from Bendigo Advertiser for all the guff on the new player payments and point system to be introduced right across all AFL.Vic Clubs in 2016. Reckon id have to read it a few times to understand it correctly. Speaking personally In principal i like it, but will it work, what do others think??

I think we all agree in theory, but much like the responsibility of how its got to this (the clubs not the players) the clubs and club executives have to be the one's to drive it. Otherwise wives/partners will continue to get big $$$ to play netball and work the canteen to avoid putting it all thru the books.

As for the points bit, still needs a lot of tweaking and consideration.

What game r u going to doona?????
Come watch the Flying Dutchman

No idea Mongrel at this stage, every chance my boys when I get home from our 3rds game and their basketball will want to watch Kilmore so might do half and half. No offence Keston as after all the huff and puff over the off season the club had to do something (and I applaud it BTW) but if I come to Broadford it will be to watch a few local lads I have once coached and still have friendship with - and to catch me good mate IMS ..... the Dutchy thing will have no influence on whether I go or not.

My main concern is... What if a player plays all his junior footy at one club. Plays TAC cup at U18s level and is even good enough to get drafted to an AFL team. However after say 3 or 4 years he gets cut (which is actually the norm) Can he come back and play at his local club with his mates for 1 point? Seems unfair if they have to welcome him back for 6 or 5 points.

Fair point Brett but I honestly don't think Rupo need to be concerned about the new initiative.
I've done a bit of maths on this and both our clubs won't have an issue at all

Ha ha you worked me out Deano ;) I think Rupo would welcome the new initiative. I just hope that with so many of our former juniors going off to try VFL and some still AFL. I would like to think that if they come back we would be rewarded for the fact that we were their junior club and that they wouldn't be treated as "outside recruits".

My sticking point is this exact scenario should club juniors spread their wings, earn themselves some good footy then return to help their "home" club. Different in the cases with guys like Tuckey, Hally etc who have played the highest level - they'd obviously be maximum points. But say in 10-12 years time a Jake Lever or a Matty Dick heads home for a kick they should still be deemed a local product in my opinion.

I just however have remembered a chat I had with a fairly learned and quite often accurate football person about 12 months ago and sadly my opinion (and many of yours) varies to the real reason behind all this.

I'm pretty sure it's the opposite and the powers that be need it a lot lot harder for ex AFL/VFL guys to return home as it will affect the bottom line ..... the input from the AFL clubs. The way I understand it they contribute heavily to the TAC system to ensure they get what they need, but it's now gone the other way at VFL level where as there are far more talented players in far less standards and it's frustrating the AFL clubs who feel they're not getting a genuine return on their investments.

I could be wrong (and hope I am) ..... guess time will tell :(

Good observation but I'm not sure someone like Tuckey shouldn't be max points as his been out of the AFL/VFL system for some years now and should not be ranked the same as a player who's recently left AFL or even VFL level.
Interesting to see how they rank players on the fringe on VFL / TAC cup that use a local club as a "feeder" club.. What about the one off appearances by players like Fev, Tarrant etc. How is this ranked??
I personally can't see it working and who is going to pay for all the auditors. These guys are not cheap, as they will need to be accredited with some legal backing to obtain club records. Club fees will rise dramatically I reckon, which will cause clubs to be worse off..

PS: I follow Pascoe Vale and there will be legal ramifications as we have many players on 2 year contracts which go into 2016. The club & players have legal rights to uphold these and pay the player as per contract. Is afl vic saying delist these players and contract becomes turn up. Can't happen to my understand..

Might be ok for some leagues but not sure how it will work in other leagues..

Thoughts boys??

Today's results show how big the difference is between the top half and the bottom half. As for the Woodend bloke who 'canned' me 6 months ago for saying they're a 'Rabble'.....the ladder doesn't lie!

Think it's a bit hard when they are not playing at home , i understand Romsey has bent over backwards to accomodate but must be bloody hard to make any cash

Tuckey would not longer be worth six points. Each year he plays five games with the club his points ranking decreases by one point.

As for contracts, leagues are aware of that. They set the salary caps and know they will be higher to start with then they are likely to go down once contracts have expired.

And as for former AFL players coming back to their junior clubs, if they have played 40 junior games with the club they will only be ranked one point.

Good to know.

Is it true Caccamo is now out of footy for good as hes passed the 16 week limit?Im told that he put up with alot of poor treatment against Rockbank and could take no more reacted and was pinged. Not good for him personally nor for Broadford if true.

"WOW" The poor treatment musta been early on as I got there just on half time and the guys I met up with said he'd been booked and will get a holiday.

Must say though it did impact his afternoon I'd suggest because he certainly seemed frustrated/distracted in giving 3-4 of the best sprays ever to team mates who overlooked him in the second half.

Anyway if he's done wrong the tribunal will sort it out, and Broadford should not let this bugger up the oppournity to finally return to Septmeber footy for the first time in ages. A plumb draw, some decent recruits and they actually played Harley Hammond Reserve the way it should be played on the weekend which was refreshing to see

If it is that he has reached or exceeded the 16 weeks he can appeal the de registration. This means he can play on but any further suspension and it is all over. There are many precedent s for this
