There were plenty of players that didn't contribute their best on Saturday IMS, but most of the players you would expect to do something at least did something. Barker and Bonnici were the only two key players to not contribute on the day. As for bagging my comments, I can cop that. But when my opinions are parallel to many spectators, two opposition coaches and at two Sunbury Kangaroos players I think I'm not too far off the mark.

IMS perhaps was a little harsh on you Matt as you've made some pretty insightful comments this year and continue to lift the profile of our league but i must say that games are not always measured on goals and p's Matt. Digger sacrificed a lot his game on the weekend to provide space behind him. Credit to his opponent who very good when the ball made it to Digger! Sometimes selfless games like that go unnoticed to everyone but the most important people his team mates and coaches. The ablity of Dig means he'll always takes a good defender, sometimes a couple. If he can play a similar role this week and put a couple on the board-we'll take that-he's had some good games at Lancefield over the years-expecting the same again this week! With no disrespect to Sunbury, Hawks have forgotten about the win on the weekend and are putting all their energy and focus into this week's game! Although Riddell has been again outstanding this year there is a lot of self belief among the senior group that this week wont all be one way traffic! Thanks for kind words Mongrel-Woodend will definetly be on the Sunbury's wagon in the reserves and hopefully your crowd will repeat the dose for us in the seniors.

Barker is always going to get one of the best defenders, but that should be no excuse. I know he didn't get a lot of the ball, and is a team man etc. But he is supposed to be a goal kicker. Yes, you won the game, but against Riddell he will have to kick at least three or four if you are to be a chance. Why on earth wasn't Sippy named in the best? Who are you trying to fool?

Matt, all about having different guys contribute, Dig was sensational in the first final. Other guys have stood up in the next two, you are right though we need him to have a cracker this week.

have to agree with the sipthorpe call, thought his hands were huge all day, took a number of contested marks at pivotal points, along with ciunik they were the difference i thought, especially when they were both floating across half forward...

What did you make of Bonnici's game? You should be unbiased.

was pretty quiet compared to his usual 30 + standard. was heavily tagged, well by johstone and company, sometimes ciunik and donovan tried to shut him out of each stoppage, but woodend clearly targeted him as the man they wanted to shut out, dont know his stats though but his influence was pretty limited

My point was simply that the type of game he played allowed others to pop up and kick a few-dont care who kicks the goals and gets in the best and i'm pretty sure none of the team does either! Haven't looked at who was named in the best, however it's most likely a mistake was made, you know mistakes can be made Matt, like picking Woodend to miss the finals this year after recruiting well and making a prelim the year before;). My response was to your call of him being worst on ground. I was simply trying to get the point across that sometimes a reporters read on the game is not indicative of the clubs perspective who better understand his role (and this of course changes week to week)! By putting a clubs slant on a players role means that readers (especially those who were unable to attend) get a more balanced scope of the events that transpired and thus giving him some credit he deserves.

He couldn't even make a contest on a number of occasions.

Bit harsh Matt! Your comments have been a little anti-Woodend lately mate-What have we done to upset you Matt? Have the Woodend punters been cleaning up?

I like Barker and Woodend, I have been a little disappointed with both in the last couple of weeks. The Hawks' form is winning form, and you can't complain, but I reckon you played better in the home and away season. While Barker played well in the first final (I wasn't there), I noticed he was pretty quiet at Kilmore, so I made a concerted effort to watch him on Saturday. There are many players in this competition I like watching in full flight, and a number of them are Hawks players. This year you have the nitty gritty on-ballers, along with a bit of class around them, but I just think you need to get more output from your key forwards. Forrest has struggled to play many 'matchwinners' this year, similar to Digger. While these guys do warrant a lot of attention, and your smaller types benefit (Dowling, Podbury and Salpy), those three probably won't kick enough goals in a grand final to get you through. I'm also critical of the Kangaroos from Saturday's game. The week before they took it right up to Riddell, and I don't know whether it was the different matchups or whatnot, but they hardly gave a fair dinkum yelp at Macedon. The Hawks had all the answers, yes. But they were only under serious scoreboard pressure for a couple of periods in the game. Apart from kicking the first score of the match, the Kangas never led, and only got as close as level pegging twice for the remainder. Perhaps because I'm such a big fan of the way Riddell play and manage themselves, I can be easily be more critical of others. Please prove me wrong Woody07 and the rest of the Woodend boys. I want to see a great game on Sunday. Be great to see Barker kick five! I've been wrong before and happily admit it. Your bound to get it wrong when you make predictions every week. But I'm happy to stand by what I say, so bring on the criticism if you have any. Can't learn if people praise you all the time :D

Matt - If a bloke like Barker can sacrafice his game ( over the last two weeks) to let the little forwards do the damage so be it as long as they kick a winning score like the previous weeks. Remember its a team game. Salpietro bloody hell is he quick and has set them alight over the last couple of weeks ( Who will take him from Riddell ??)with Ciunik at CHF- doesnt drop too many. Sipthorpe vey good in the clenches. Maybe it has taken Stacey to go down for Forrest to step up ( or for them to move him out of the forwrd line) but he also has played well moved well around the ground at Macedon at did a great game against the Roos ruckmen. A winning team is a happpy team do you think Woodend are happy at the moment ?? I know of a couple people that won some big bets on the weekend how are the finances going?? By your odds there are some short priced favourites for the up and coming weekend. Well done to the umpires in all games not too many comments about them this week must have done well good luck to them in the finals as well.

Great guy is Barker, a former captain and great clubman. Do you think he deliberately sacrificed his game though? That's a cop out. For the record, $420 was paid out and $390 was outlayed during the course of the week. So the finances aren't too shabby at all, considering that was the first week I've posted a loss. As for who gets Salpy, your guess is as good as mine, although I reckon he'll get a fair bit of physical pressure put on him by the likes of Climas and Coles around the stoppages. Also, the odds are an indication of who I think will win, but it also has to do with some betting sense I have accured in the last month or so. The blokes from the Kangas like a punt, so you never give them generous odds if you think they'll win. The Woodend boys don't mind getting on either, so if your willing to take a risk (like I did Saturday) you can maybe have them a little wider than they deserve. I'm sure if TAB Sportsbet were doing the RDFL grand final they would have Riddell at 1.45 and Woodend-Hesket at around $2.50 ish.

Looking in to my crystal ball, ridell to win by 5 goals, Michael Allen to kick 6, brother Nathan to be best on ground and the other allen (who is no relation) to hold the cup up proud after he holds his player to no stats. :D

Spot on Nicholls. Barker been week as piss last 2 weeks. Robbie Ellis smashed him on weekend. As for woodend blokes saying he was sacrificing his game.. what a crock of shite! He is too bigheaded to do that. Woodend has top midfield thats why they are where they are and sippy who is superstar. No doubt barker will be sacrificing himself again this week after he doesnt get a kick again.

any thoughts if sippy will be at the hawks again for season 08? I know he wasnt even %100 fit this year and still dominated ... surely he would be walk up 1's in better leagues?

Im sure they will be doing their best to hang onto him. As far as better leagues go i think he came 3rd in Michelsen Medal a couple of years ago (led up until final round when pipped by Luke saunders) and pretty certain he won Gisbornes B&F that year.
No doubt he could play at any level, even as high as VFL if he got fit again.
Any truth to the rumour that Cuffey will be stepping out for Sunbury 2's this week. Massive inclusion if so and should guarantee the roos toos go back to back!

Matt any chance of some odds on the netball GF, not enough options with just the footy. I knwo the B grade will involve a short priced fave but the A grade match looks like a real 50/50. Will give me some incentive to go and have a look at the girls on Sunday.

Mate I'd be purely guess on the netball results, so I won't offer a market. No respect to the girls, but I just can't enjoy your sport!
