And it is their right not to attend... So which players did you speak to that have been "Forced" into playing.. Would be interested in hearing that, every player contacted has responded fantastically to the game. Noone is going to be "forced" to do anything..

Thank's king ...

Unreal , The West Vs East game , IMO : it's a stupid concept . Full stop.

Some people do have a invested interested in the RDFL on here that's ok .

But we all have a say ! ( that's why we vote ) Not everyone think's this
was the right thing too do and your kidding yourself if you think other wise.

To call me un-educated about this matter , must be talking to the wrong people .

The RDFL in couple of year's (5-10) is going to have some massive problems.

Sunbury J'rs (all club's) has 37 team's radius of 10 km's,population 35,000 .

Digger's J'rs has 3 teams population 2,100 .

In the (pipe works) that Diggers Rest population (in the time frame above) will reach 3,000 house holds extra.

3,000 x 4 per house = 12,000 extra people .

The other propossell , is 10,000 house holds in this same time frame, do the math's alot of people .

Water Gardens' + Melton + Sunbury + Plan's for Diggers Rest , the radius of 30km's could reach 250,000 to 300,000 k people by 2020 .

With rissing fuel cost's , living cost's , and the likely-hood of interest-rate's going up (hope not) , people will not be able to travel as far.

My point being that smaller country club's will find it harder to compete ..

Fact ...... Crazzyburn small country town .... 1974 ..... 2008 ... population 35'k 1st div EDFL

Melton South .... small club formed out of the old defunkted Rockbank club late 60's ,power in the Bfl leauge.

This new area could start up another leauge .... it will have the Jnr's on board .

Please re-write this above post and hit the spell check in the top right hand corner.. Please... Just so people can make some sense out of it all... Thank you.

My views on the weekend's East vs West game

Originally I thought the idea ridiculous, a waste of time and a lot of people thinking the league is better than it actually is. I thought that the players would have no interest, would be a lacklustre game with a relatively small crowd.

After attending the game on the weekend I must say it was fairly well run, was quite a good game and was probably quite successful. I still think a lot of the players would have not really cared whether they had played in it or not, yet probably enjoyed the social side.

All in all even though it went quite well I think that it is good that it is unlikely to happen again.

And just one query. Who in their right mind would pay $55 dollars to buy one of those jumpers that they wore re the backpage of the record.

Couple of minor injuries I believe. Nothing too serious. Crowd would have been a fair bit bigger than your normal home and away match. About the same size as a final in the first week.

I think having the junior game was a smart move for gate and canteen takings. Definitely increased the numbers.

Approx 900 through the gate, then the sneak in's..

Great round of football coming up this week. Every game just about has something riding on it.

Riddell (1st) V Woodend (2nd)
Sunbury Kangaroos (3rd) V Diggers Rest (5th)
Lancefield (4th) V Romsey (7th)
Melton Centrals (8th) V Kilmore (9th)
Rockbank (11th) V Wallan (10th)

The east west game was a pretty good contest. Got across to ridell and had a look, perfefct day for the lads to have a kick!

Thought Young was probably best for me although robertson was a worthy medal winner. also col lauire was good forward but he and james probably should have kicked a few more goals each, they missed a fewe sitters.

Also petran looked pretty good. I think im saying the obvious but ridell are going to be hard to beat. From the east i thought the woodsy boys were good especially hardwick. Choate and collins from lanny played well too. East may have got closer with Lacy, sippy and Ng. Good game to watch though. well done to those involved

good game, weather gods smiled, large enough crowd well behaved but i feel that it lacked a little bit of atmosphere {passion} from the crowd.having said that the league should continue with this format and what a great way to pick the interleague squad to play the southern football league

Even though I'd ever make the cut as a senior footy coach, I thought I'd put myself in Mick Giddings' shoes and try and work out a way to beat Riddell.

1. Pressure is everything. One thing that no side has been able to do is to pressure Riddell's ball carriers over the full duration of a match. It's tough to do, requires full commitment from the playing group, but is a proven technique against the top sides.

2. Must make the most of the counter-attack. It is inevitable that Riddell will get the ball forward more times than you. But they do miss goals. The Hawks must have a bloody good plan when taking the kick-outs. Probably need two or three plans really. My best one is to get Warren Else to thump the ball towards the driest wing (scoreboard side), with Mick Lacy and Matt Stacey in position for the mark or at least a contest. Half-backs like Kar Weng Ng or winger Sammy Bowen need to read the play and be running at full tilt for the handball receive. As Riddell's ground is fairly small, the next kick will be in Woodend-Hesket's attacking zone. This is where leading forwards Steve Considine and Luke Barker need to be at their best. Considine was very disappointing in the All-Star match, so should have plenty left in the tank. Barker has been pretty good this season and needs to probably kick four if the Hawks are to win. Ben Black and Podbury will also need to be nipping at their heels if an opportunity arrives.

3. Although Glenn Robertson has been doing a pretty good job in the ruck this year, he is not the strongest when it comes to the hitouts from the centre. The Woodend-Hesket ruckmen must wear him down because he is most dangerous around the ground. No doubt all of the focus at Gilbert Gordon Reserve this week will be on winning the ball from the centre stoppages. Riddell will kick goals, but that only creates more clearance opportunities for the Hawks. Jay Downing, Donovan and co. will need to be on their games.

4. A little bit of luck couldn't go astray, so you would expect the Hawks to be extra nice to the umpires, sing a few hymns pre-game, and hope that Riddell's players don't come up all that well from the All-Star match. Despite a few people saying that these two sides have nothing to play for except bragging rights, I disagree. I think both teams will come out firing, desperate to gain that psychological edge and put a bit of doubt into the opposition. I think Riddell may be a bit too good, but if Slugga kicks like he did on Saturday, the Hawks are a big chance :)

I'm tipping Riddell by 32 points.

Did you cut & paste this prematch from last years GF when Woodend dominated all over the ground when they were expected to be flogged.
Riddell will win this match (particularly with notable outs for Hawks at present time) but expect a much different game came week 1 of finals on big hard ground!

It may sound like last year's GF preview, and in reality the Hawks are in a similar situation - underdogs, but still a chance. But to be fair, both side's are completely different from last season. Plus you're forgetting that a certain Riddell player lost the plot and pretty much cost them any chance of winning. And apart from a select few, the Bombers didn't handle the big stage as they had done in the two years prior.

Riddell
Ins - Lee James, Chris Meacham, Peter Robertson, Sam Young.
Outs - Heath Wadden, Leigh Harrison (technicality).

Woodend-Hesket
Ins - Steve Considine, Mick Lacy, Ben Black, Ben Shipard, Jimmy Hepburn.
Outs - Nick Hannett, Adam Johnstone, Daniel Salpietro, Darko Dabrovsak, Rick Dowling.

Ah Pickles you always seem to be the scapegoat! You must have been the only person to tip Riddell in last year's grand final. A few of the Hawks blokes certainly seem to be holding a grudge against you anyway. I think you are perhaps the only footy writer in history to make a public apology after getting a tip wrong. I'll never forget the headline after last year's grand final - "I was wrong". We played Riddell a couple of weeks ago and they were bloody awesome. I played on Mick Allen briefly and that forward line is just so smart, always working for each other. Think you got it pretty spot on about how to beat them. I know our coaching staff went through about five or six different scenrarios when playing against them before the match and although we tried our best, just couldn't match them. It was like that last year but they didn't have the power forwards like Jamesy and Meacham. Scary.

Been reading all your qoutes on your West & East game, sounds like it was a great success.Well done to league on having a go and promoting your League. Now their is only one thing any of HDFL top 3 sides would most likely beat either the West or East sides:D

Ease up Big Ump, Riddell would be on a par (if not ahead) with Elmore and your flag favourites Heathcote if both comps were merged, Colbinabbin then Woodend would round out a top 5.

Is Sippy a starter. They can't win without him!
