Great turnout for our meet the coach day at Wallan. Also good to see some former players returning to play for us including a former club BnF winner. Can't wait for training to start on Monday.

will there be any langbornes playing.? will j mcgrath be at wallan?

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

Very interesting, thanks Matt.
It was a fairly low possession game, with Woodend perhaps being a bit more direct. That seemed to help them with the breeze in the final term. Interesting to see the likes of Manser and Hannett, who have quite penetrating kicks, getting a lot of the ball. The tackle count would also be interesting, from my recollection Podbury and others were very good in that regard.
The greater number of handballs from Riddell seems to reflect how creative they are. With another good long target in James coming back on board next year you would imagine they will be hard to topple.
Have also heard that Nick Holland will be pulling on the boots for Woodend next year. Any truth to that rumour, Woody07, Rodriguez, anyone?

Earl, not sure about Dutchy one of the boys from the club works with him, we tried last year, imagine he'll be trying to convince him again. think there would be more of a chance of Lace who would be handy, depending on his committments at richmond.

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

The Romsey Football Club has appointed a coach for season 08

Mark DiPietro and Darren Lingard.

Personally I would like to wish both guys all the best for the 08 season.

He's a great man Dippa, the heart and soul of the Redbacks for almost 20 years. Always putting the club first as he has done here again by throwing his hand up when not enough other people are willing to help out. Hope he gets the support he deserves on and off-field in '08.

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

I thought Cleary did a pretty good job last year considering the cattle he had. Dayson is a terrific club stalwart, but in one game I saw him play in last year all he did was mouth off at umpires. Not sure if he is a playing coach, I doubt it, but one thing that is pivotal in reserves footy is discipline. While Cleary was stiff, Dayson will do a good job.

Dayson on the field is terrible. When he's not having a go at the umpires his running around slagging off his own teamates.

He should be playing superules

Dynamic duo reappointed

by Matt Nicholls

ROMSEY Football Club has decided Mark Dipietro and Darren Lingard will continue to co-coach the Redbacks in 2008.
Having taken on the job at the start of last season, the dynamic duo was able to secure fourth spot on the ladder and win a senior final in the Riddell District Football League.
It must be noted that the pair did an exceptional job considering some of the manpower the Redbacks had lost to other clubs.
At the start of this year former Bowen Medal winners Mark Strack (Wangaratta) and Alistair Meldrum (Heathcote) signalled their intentions to depart.
Joining Meldrum at Heathcote were talented Carroll brothers Daniel and Luke. They were irreplaceable for Dipietro and Lingard.
Dipietro said he was looking forward to the challenge of developing some of Romsey’s young stars into senior footballers.
“The exciting thing about having another crack at this job is the amount of young talent we have,” he said.
“The plan is to blood as many youngsters as possible and build the club’s future.”
The 300-gamer for the Redbacks also noted that his players would have to work hard over the summer in order to be ready for what is expected to be the toughest season in the RDFL for quite some years.
No date has been set for pre-season training but there is expected to be a couple of sessions before Christmas.
While there is already speculation around RDFL circles that the Redbacks are on the slide and will battle for a spot in the finals next year, Dipietro was quick to point out that it is a long way from round one.
“Obviously it would have been better to be appointed earlier, but we are confident we can retain our playing list, as well as bolster it with a few handy recruits.”
It is expected that the reserves and Under 18s coaching positions will be filled in coming weeks.
On a committee level, the Redbacks finalised their executive last week.
Justin Paterson will take on the presidency for the first time, with club stalwart Terry Brady his senior vice-president.
Glenn Walters will be the junior vice president, while Graeme Cuthbert takes on the secretary’s position.
Russell Carroll will continue as club treasurer.
TIGER TRAINING
Lancefield Football Club will commence pre-season training next Monday, December 3.
All past, present and future players are more than welcome to come and join the Tigers for the 2008 season.
Once again the senior coaching staff will be headed by Chris Collins, with Andrew Reaper his assistant, while Robert Curran and Paul Cook will coach the reserves and Under 18s respectively for the first time.

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

The rumor mill is churning!! Here's what I've heard:

Daniel Sipthorpe to Craigieburn

Matt Robertson to Craigieburn

Aaron James to Wallan (I thought he was going to Stanhope, but anyway)

Scott Cummings to Wallan:confused::confused::confused:

Not too sure how reliable my source is, but the great poster's of BF should be able to shed some light. Any feedback from those close to the relevant party's?

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

I have heard that a football club in this league has a player straight out of top level football coming to their club, who has only just recently left the game.... Now till i hear it again im not mentioning what club, player and who told me... Just so i don't look like a Dick!

But imagine a player straight out of the afl playing in our league, could only be a good thing i presume!

Must also mention, that i am yet to confirm whether or not this on a player level or coaching staff or either...

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

Great turn out for our first trainig night last night. The vibe around the club really has picked up since the announcement that we will be back in the RDFL.

As to the rumore that Aaron James and Scott Cummings will be playing at Wallan, nothing has been said around our club so I doubt it very much at this stage.

Also can someone from Macedon confirm for me that Geoff O'conner will be playing there this year.

Has Woodend picked anyone up? Sippy would be a huge loss. With Darko and Salpitro also not playing next year Woodend would need a few good inclusions to be a chance to defend their title.

Good to see the sceptics are out and about.
Matt speaking off spin, nice work earlier all about Romsey then big plug for the Tigers training.

Hey I wanted to give the Tiges a good run, but Joe Blow, the new publicity officer couldn't meet my demands :D

Haha. Nah I'll get down to Lancefield's training next week and get them on next week's back page.

Apparently there is a war over the transfer fee for me to play at Kilmore (even though I'm retired) - Kilmore offered a minimum of chips and two potato cakes, but Lancefield wanted a Zinger Burger Combo with potato and gravy. Things could hot up between the old rivals :p

After coffee and a toasted sanga last Friday mate I thought I was leading the race :D
