News just in, that should make some people happy.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, out of control of Woodend/Hesket FNC and the RDFL, the RDFL senior finals fixtures for this Saturday, September 5th 2009 have been amended as follows:

- All matches, which were fixtured to be played at Woodend’s Gilbert Gordon Reserve have been moved to Riddells Creek Reserve.

All fixture times and matches, as well as instructions distributed earlier this week, will remain the same. The only change is the change of venue.

Well done to Riddell FNC as they have offered their venue for Woodend/Hesket FNC to use, as they will still be hosting the event.

A great night again at the Bowen... Congrats to all the winners..

Fantastic count and BT did a great job once again.. Team of the year threw up some interesting choices.. Was surprised it wasn't a leak onto here, thought that was a definite Matt?

Obviously no one asked hard enough. What was the team of the year anyway? RDFL didn't post it on the website with the other results yesterday.

Obvioulsy the inclusion of our boy (Grant Wearne) was one . . . 350 odd people in that room and dead silence, not one single clap when BT read "Grant Wearne Broadford" :( in fact there may have been one - I think some joker yelled out "Who"

Our table cheered mate. Soon as the silence was obvious, we cheered for him! Well done to him!

Thanks Rgs, glad someone else noticed. We thought after our netball team of the year girl failed to get much of a repsonse we'd sit quiet and see what happened if Wearney got called . . . just glad Grant wasn't there, woulda been mighty embarrassing for him

Really pleased to see him in the team of the year and continuing on with his good footy. Only played against him a couple of times before Broadford moved to the Riddell League and was fantastic on each occassion. Hope he keeps improving:thumbsu:

I for one certainly wouldn't be embarrassed to be named in any team of the year Doona.
Maybe those who did not recognise his achievement should be embarrassed though.
Congratulations to all who made the team.:thumbsu:

be fair to say there have been some great games over the weekend, todays match must have been a cracker , what else could you ask for in a final , victory snatched in the last ten seconds of the game !

ventured out to melton yesterday to watch the macedon v diggers clash expecting a great contest instead walked away in shock and amasement.
great effort by diggers to peg back the cats who had all the play in the first half and went into the main break 4 goals up and full of run.
i was standing in amongst some life long loyal cats supporters and you couldnt wipe the smile of their faces, this is what they had been waiting for , for a long long time.
whilst they were keeping a lid on it you could sense that they knew that victory was only an hr away if the cats kept playing as they were.

once the siren sounded to start the third qrt thats is were it all went pair shaped.

diggers pounced on the hard ball and had all the luck go their way, first to the footy and were as tough as nails.
macedon look flat footed , tired and not interested, perhaps thinking that they had done enough in the first half to see them move to the next round?
given that they had played a rampaging burra side the week before and were very very lucky to hold on , you would have thought that they would,ve done their homework and learned from the previous week as the same thing was happening all over again.
diggers dropping men back a kick behind the play building a wall and pumping the ball back into their forward 50 as quick as macedon were getting it out.
the pressure was on the cats and it showed with turnovers and some poor skills leading to easy goals for diggers.
ben james obviously was no were near match fit struggling with a knee injury that limited his impact dramatically.

why would you have your best four players on the pine when you could see that diggers were coming and coming hard ?
i understand that they give some of their onballers a rest but when the heat is on that is generally when the cream of the crop rise to the occassion, never at any stage in the third qrt did any of the cats top line players fire a shot.
siren sounds to end the third diggers have out played the cats in every aspect and have got them selves a 8 pt buffer going into the last and also going into the last with all the momentum.
expecting to hear a passionate , inspirational plea/speech from the coach given what had just occured i walked away amazed and i wasnt alone in that thought.
not one sense of urgency in the huddle from anyone, blind freddy could have seen what was happening but for some reason coach lee didnt see it.
whispering to his players , are you for real ?
the side you have coached all yr is in danger of dropping straight out of the race for the flag and the best you can muster is a whisper?
what inspiration could any footballer get from being whispered to going into one of the toughest last qrts they could ever ask to play ?

the last started as the third ended diggers running all over macedon, lee had zero answers to hopkins and was completly out coached in every aspect of the game , hopkins was always one step ahead and this showed on the ground and the scoreboard.
even the supposedly ever inspiring captain christening from macedon had nothing , the only player out there try to rev up his mates was knight and he was fighting a losing battle heads started to drop and so did the chance to move into the nxt round of finals matches.
blade been great all year was terrible, fleming struggled after the main break, as mentioned earlier james was clearly struggling with a knee injury.
the skill level of macedon was poor to say the least wilton being a serial offender of turn overs and mis directed kicks, mills looked way out of his depth seemed to get pinged every time he went near the ball to slow with his decision making.
christenson had a clear case of the fumbles all day, hancock was the only shinning light down back but one man cant do the job of 6 can he ?
the forward line didnt exist after half time for a side to kick just two points in two qtrs of footy is disgusting, especially from a side who had showed so much all year long.

for a side to completly lay down like macedon did in a final was one of the saddest thing ive seen in footy, the players should be embarrassed, they should apologise to those die hard cats suporters who have weathered the storm of some extremely tough times down at macedon and stuck by them through and through. the look on some of those guys faces said it all they were shattered.
the coach should be told to pack his bags as clearly he hasnt got what it takes to lift his side when the heat is on.
all in all a very very dissappointing day for any macedon supporter, hopefully they learn from this
hope also the diggers guy who went off in that sickening clash in front of the clubrooms is ok as well.

good luck to the remaining teams in their quest to take home the cup and just remember finals are a funny game anything and i mean anything is possible!

tugboat out

Alot of facts wrong here tugboat. For starters James actually got injured in the 3rd which is why he was off the ground. Hamish miles was also injured and off the ground in the 3rd and I am pretty sure goodwin, blade and fleming did not have a spell at any period when the game was in the balance.

Listened to both coaches at the last break and both where quiet and composed. The days of passionate ranting and raving are gone tuggboat. The games on the line and the players need there roles outlined clearly- not to be yelled out. It has zero impact IMO.

Digger won because there big and experience bodies smashed the smaller And younger macedon side which also forced macedon to make crucial errors. Diggers won almost all the important contests in the 2nd half and that was the difference- simple as that.

i agree with some of the points u made here ant.however it was macedon that came out smashing bodies in the first quater.and they looked the goods whilst doing it.but tell me why wasnt azza christiansen given a 10 minute burst on the ball.hes their leader and a proven onballer.yet he sat in the pocket all day heavily tagged.likewise with nipper.he was heavily tagged all day.maybe nipper could have played at full foward and azza gone to the midfield for some much needed spark???? just a thought

I dont want to go into to much because I am good mates with brenno and he is big enough to stick up for himself. I dont think there are to many people who can say he has not done a pretty good job all year and that the team has not improved out of sight. Calls for a sacking seem very harsh and pre-mature. Maybe he was just backing the blokes in the midfield- Goodwin, dettman and blade who did the job when the game was on the line the week before to do the job in the last quarter. You win the game and are told well done for keeping your nerve and backing your men, you lose and its suggested you back your backs. Your questions are valid, the other blokes where way over the top.

now ant are you sure you were even there on saturday ?
james has only just come back from injury, im tipping he was at about 70% going into the game.
goodwin came off more times than you no during the third qrt you would no this if you were there, blade was definately off as well although it wasnt for long , fleming i wouldnt no as he was that quiet during the second half he wasnt noticed at all. dettman came off twice during the third as well.
as for diggers as you say having bigger bodies and smashing macedon, that is a load of crap. as mongrel said macedon came out and were as hard as nails in the first half.
i would back any player from macedon not to take a backward step regardless of who was coming at them(al collins excluded from this as he is the only one who doesnt like the physicall side of footy)
diggers won all of the footy in the second half as macedon laid down and had given up ten minutes into the final qtr.
you couldnt have been in the huddle at any stage as you would not have heard a thing i was a metre away from the players and could not hear a single thing, i wasnt on my own there either.
i didnt say that yelling and screaming at the players was the answer but if lee had any brains about him he would have seen what was going on and adapted to how diggers were playing (droppping men back behind the ball, ruane running wild and doing as pleased, christenson stuck deep down forward with no influence, along with wright all of these things could have been changed)
i hope next yr more than anything that macedon go even further into september they have a great group of players and with a couple of touch ups to the side here and there and a change at the top i believe they could go all the way, but they have to learn from the experience of the past two finals outings against diggers, and not just be happy with making the finals they have to want to win it more than anything else, the rest will take care of its self with the list they have

he has done the same job as last years coach eliminated in the first week of the finals.
add blade , fleming, mcarthur, walker and a few others into the mix who werent there last year and you would have thought that they should have gone further true ?
i have no doubt the players would be bitterly dissapointed with how their year finished up and heres to hoping they all stick together to make ammends for it next year.
i just dont think that lee has it in him to get the players over the line.
the cats should make a serious play for one of their former players who spent time on a afl list and has just finished his playing days at another club in the rdfl. he has more footy knowledge in his little finger than lee does in his whole body!

SUPERCAT?

He would be a great benefit to the cats in a coaching position, whether assistant or main man.Not time to turf Flea. The last thing this young group needs is yet another one season coach,
