I think this is a great move by the club - good to see clubs willing to be proactive for their future - especially when their league or those above league level don't have your club's best interests front and center.
Anyone from Kyneton in doubt just jump onto the RDFNL facebook page or socials and check out the publicity and promotion they do for everyone from every club in every grade football and netball - self run self administered for whole leagues benefit not the select few :thumbsu:
IMO more leagues need to take back control like this crew have when they left AFL Goldfields.

Thanks mate I’m the current coach

I’m proud of the boys and the club this year and agree with you it would/is one of the hardest jobs going around in footy to rebuild the club.

At the end of last year the coach and most of the side left which is understandable, it was a credit to Marty the last coach who worked hard to get us over 2mil in upgrades to our facilities and put a side on the park (I love him for that)

This year we have signed over 40 new players and have been able to work really hard to get us a budget that sets us up to be competitive next year (at the start of this year it was an unknown how much we could spend)

This year the boys got to play a game with a Brownlow Medallist, we had the Today Show come to our club and you are right Ladbrokes are doing a story on us now as well, the club is doing all it can to be successful and I believe if the Rams can retain the list and pick up some key players we will be in the mix as shown in the early stages of the year where we were competitive (I disagree we only have one player who would get a game in any other side, we have some really good players, we have no depth when injures occur or juniors to rely on. A few years back the Rams had a thirds side which would be great to bring back)

I'm a footy tragic. I hope and believe that we can turn our fortunes around. If you are keen to support us mate I can send you a PM to buy a membership for next year and you can say to everyone you supported a club that needed it when it counts?

Take care

Leigh

Well done and good luck to you

With the right culture, support, cattle and backing (and a bit of patience at times) perennial cellar dwellers definitely can climb the ladder - you don't have to look too far to see an example of this with Heathcote - couldn't hardly win a game to save themselves, have gone to just missing finals last season and finished top of H+A on top this year and could go all the way - not a bad effort - just had a plan and knew results take time and takes time to build to turn things around (oh an maybe a gun recruit or two from Wallan :p )

Keep the faith and prove the doubters wrong

I think Kyneton would be a good get for the league. Means other teams will have to find away and pull their socks up. Keep melton centrals over in the BFL or WRFL. I would love to see my club in the Rdfnl again but I can’t see it happening. Positive times ahead for this great league and bring it on I say.

The only winner out of this would be Kyneton. They go from a consistent bottom 4 club to a top 4 (at worst)club immediately.
You dont think the current Rdfl clubs are trying to find a way and pull their socks up already?
They have to drop $30000 from current salary cap.Are players really going to play for less?
This would also mean 2 byes for all clubs again rather than an even fixture of every team playing each other twice.
I repeat again Kyneton would be the only winner.

Haha sounds like barfly is on the recruiting committee at Macedon and has just realised he can no longer go a recruit Kyneton reserves players on long term contracts for his senior side.

Seeing a lot of RDFL people posting on certain social media posts today, looks like they are all 100% behind the move, As it even further improves the league

The winner is the league. Kyneton coming in will be the first piece of a bigger puzzle the RDFL management are putting together. Other league administrators would be envious as to how they are going about things. Whilst it looks like there will be one new club next year, there will be more to follow without doubt. 2 byes per club won’t be a problem for a year - Bendigo for example have 10 teams yet still have 2 split rounds each year. The players, the supporters, the volunteers all enjoy a break during the season. Yes a couple of split rounds make the break even on everyone getting the break at the same time. But as I said it’ll only be for a year with 2 byes.
And you know who else will be winners - every clubs bank accounts when they play home games against Kyneton. The tiger army travel. The crowds against Macedon, Woodend etc at home when they play Kyneton will be huge - they better make sure the fridges are full and the beers are cold, and their treasurer’s can sit back late on a Saturday night enjoying a beer or two (if there are any left) counting the cash.

It could even attract more clubs. Trentham seems to be ideally located but never seems to be mentioned when talk turns to potential new clubs.

Gisborne Giants are close to fielding seniors. Anyone else?

Maybe Eynesbury, or would they go to the WRFL? Trentham arent to shabby but compete in a terrible league. Would they be any good in this comp?

Fingers crossed they do make the move, you hit it on the head, the opposition clu s close by will make the effort to come and watch, which makes more healthier clubs in our region.

I haven't seen what it's like, but are kyn4tons ground lights good enough for night games? Have they done that in the bfnl?

That could a be a major draw card as well. Playing Woodend or Macedon under lights would be a big crowd.

Kyneton have tried a few games under lights. I ventured along to watch one - it’s very difficult to see the game as a spectator, though apparently they are ok from a player’s perspective. The other factor is Kyneton isn’t the warmest place in the world, especially during the evening through the winter!

I agree. Though I’d like to see Woodend have a good old crack

I know a few blokes from Wallan, and my son son plays juniors there, so it would be good to see the senior body have some success, but they aren't getting near them.

Must agree they get a side close to their best 22 on the ground they are certainties.

Shoot-out at Romsey today. Must've been a great watch.

Ripping game.

Unfortunately Wallan were on the wrong end of the result in the end.

After being 3 goals up at 1/2 time and then kicking a goal in the first minute of the 3rd to take the lead out to 4 goals, Diggers went bang and kicked 6 or 7 straight was probably the difference in the game.

Digger kicking quick goals to start both quarters of extra time and Wallan we’re playing catch up.

But Wallan have shown over the last month that the mixture of youth and experience are right up there for the fight and it won’t be as easy for diggers to take the flag as some has suggested.

Tough game next weekend vs either Woodend or Romsey, either way, it will be a cracker.

Well done to our 2s on making it in to another grand final with a 5 point win over Diggers.

Interesting Riddell Football Club have put an add out for senior footballing coach. Very successful club over the years and should get some strong applicants. Already have their captain and vice captains signed on for 2024. Looking forward to what they do next as I’m sure they will be smarting at not being still alive in the finals race. Very proud club thru all grades.
