Nah.

I’ll have a new one lined up. But not on Good Friday sorry team.

I’ll see what I can do week after.
There’s definitely a joke in there about eating fish on Good Friday, but I’m far too highbrow to even suggest it.

The thing with GoT is it easily should have turned into a Marvel-esque universe with movies, prequels, sequels and all that jazz. But it didn't purely because of the last two seasons and the sour taste it left for everyone who participated.

The only real comparison I can think of is Avatar (the movie). Wikipedia has a page dedicated to all the box office records it broke, but a few years after it was released I don't know anyone who would refer to it as a top 10 movie all time, or even sit through a rewatch. (google tells me they are releasing Avatar 2 and 3 this year, and I didn't even know).

You could actually say the same thing is happening with the Harry Potter universe. If they had one iota of a clue they wouldn't have built a FIVE MOVIE series about a book that was 100 pages long and written for charity. The obvious play is to use material that is referenced but not detailed, i.e follow Harry Potters Dad around when he was in school. You can basically go wherever you want with it, make it romance, make it a buddy cop style comedy, make it a drama as various people turn to the dark side.

It actually maddens me how much some of my favourite childhood IP has been butchered. But oh well.

If the last few Game of Thrones' seasons were as long as the rest in terms of number of episodes etc, it would have given them more time to flesh things out and I reckon it would have been perfect. Shit was rushed badly towards the end and I'm not sure why, it's not as if no one was watching and they were given less money just to wrap things up.

It didn't help they got ahead of GRRM either.

It would be interesting to see if there was also "a hot new show" that started rating off it's **** at the end of the GoT run as well.

8 seasons is a long time to hold the attention of a vast swathe of people these days. I think Jon killing Dani is well forecast in the books through the Azor Ahai legend but her turning into a petulant toddler was a really odd way to take it.

At least GRR Martin has a really good idea of how not to finish the book series now :tearsofjoy:

The strength of GoT was the dialogue and depth of characterisation. It’s telling that the strongest part of the series was the early seasons that stayed closest to the novels

As it progressed though they strayed from the novels, partly through necessity admittedly because they haven’t been written, and the focus shifted to big set pieces and later seasons existed to set those up

Those big battle scenes also chewed up a lot of screen time that in earlier seasons was used to build character relationships and provide understanding to decisions made

I don't think there has been a show at a similar level in terms of captivating everyone's imagination and with all the new streaming services I doubt there ever will be again.

Jon killing Dany was fine, but the rationale about needing to (because Dany went crazy) was stupid. All they had to do was have either Cersei kill Missandei later in the piece (to spark Dany's rage) or to have Euron kill the 2nd dragon only at the end (again, to incite rage from Dany) that would have made far more sense for Dany to go off the deep end.

Also the meeting at the end to decide the new King was ridiculous. The entire show starts with a massive power vacuum (King Robert dying) and everyone attempting to claim a piece. It ends in the same spot, but every rule that has been established is broken instantly. Arya threatens to kill someone at the meeting, Bran gets announced as king but Sansa just yeets her territory out of the Kingdom (which should have drive Yara to do the same) for some reason they give a vote to Davos, it is just a huge mess.

JFC. Bran. What a shocking character.

When Tyrion starting crapping on about who had the best story I was like ooooooooh Queen Arya **** yeah, then he said Bran!? ****ing BRAN!? WTF mate the Bran subplot (hold the door excluded) was the time I spent daydreaming about the brothel scenes I saw earlier in the episode.

The show runners wanted to leave and do star wars movies (which they never got to because they tanked GOT so badly). They were offered the money and time by the network to do longer/more seasons and they turned it down because they wanted to leave

Why was Bronn master of coin when earlier in the show he said he’d never even borrowed money before and didn’t know how it worked lol…

Just make him master of war FFS then you get to keep him on the council and it actually makes some sense.

A reminder that S8 won the show ‘Best Drama’ and the finale was nominated for Best Writing. Sycophants.

Most entertainment awards are crap, but TV awards are partiuclarly bad. If you're nominated once you're basically in until the show ends. All about credits in the bank for the Emmys. The Golden Globes noms are handed out to the best suck-ups. The Logies are the so bad I'm actually more impressed by shows that haven't been nominated.
