That's not as big of a stretch as it's made out to be:

Friends debuted only 2.5 years after the last Golden Girls episode premiered. It's been almost 28 years since that debut, which means more time has passed from that date to now, than from Matthew Perry's (the youngest main cast member) birth to the Friends debut.

Friends is a really old show. Almost as old as Enter Sandman (which is the same vintage now as Elvis' first post-army releases were when Sandman was first released).

It was fine, just doesn’t deserve to be talked about as one of the greatest sitcoms of all time, that’s all.

Some of the stuff hasn’t aged well but that’s true of most shows I think.

Friends was great, but like any show that gets milked, it jumped the shark eventually.

I agree that it does feel a bit dated now. The laughter track sticks out like a sore thumb.
