Maybee its time to stop being the doormat of the league the hubris at geelong yesterday was sickening the pro melbourne media bias vomit inducing is it time for our club to draw a line in the sand, once dangerfield goes sack milburn immediately become inclusive and only recruit south australians actually grow a set as a club become uncomprimising overtly aggressive and go out of our way to destroy clubs that mess with us first off geelong

We will never win a flag if we only recruited players from South Australia

Why on earth would we/he come out this week and say that he's leaving, on the eve of our first finals appearance since 2012? That is far, far worse than the speculation.

How is it possibly worse?

How is it better to maintain a charade?

Both clubs have all their arrangements in place by now. No one is going to be caught on the hop. If they haven't they're extremely incompetent considering they've had years to plan. There are no pawns left to shuffle. Even Motlop is off the table now.

If he's staying then give the club a massive morale boost and announce it.

If he's going then stop this worst-kept-secret pretending garbage. Remove the distraction. Commit to an all out final assault with this club.

Clear the air, let everyone know where they stand. That is the definition of a man conversation.

I liked this for the punctuation alone:D:thumbsu:…but I get your drift, particularly yesterday's 'media bias vomit'.

1998 is 17 years ago becoming the alternative has hardly worked how much resources went into dangerfield tippet et al you simply have no evidence to support your assumption

Picking only South Australians would mean forfeiting 15 spots (at the very least) in the draft for every pick we will ever make from now on. We would be down the bottom of the ladder in a matter of 5 or so years. We would get the number 1 pick but may have to ignore the top 10 or so best players in the country so we can pick a South Australian player. This strategy gets mentioned all the time and its seriously the dumbest thing imaginable.

If we had priority access to the best SA talent, it'd be a viable option. We don't though, so removing ourselves completely from the largest football talent pool in Australia will result in us having a team full of average footballers.

What is the cost of recruiting victorians who go home I realise youve done a phd on list management and recruiting and youve had a beer with a guy who used to work with ugo colasante but you have no evidence to show it wouldnt work as stated the status quo has now been unsuccessful for 17 years

Evidence

Just look at how many South Australians get drafted overall and at what stage in the draft and then look at what talent you will be ignoring

For every Tippett that leaves there is a Talia and Douglas that stays and then there are players like Betts and JJ where we provide a 2nd football opportunity which you would want us to not explore

Any suggestion of an All SA side is just Ludacris and will keep us pinned to the bottom of the AFL table

Look, it is not a long term viable strategy to only draft SA players but losing out best players every second or third year is far less attractive as well.

We will continue to lose our best players as long as the AFL have 10 teams in Victoria.

You have no hope of succeeding with a draft S.A kids only policy.
You're limiting the population you're drafting from to something so small.

Then you have to rely on the luck that at your pick, other teams haven't taken the S.A. guy who is ranked around that pick.
If there IS one ranked near that pick you have.

We could be using pick 7 to pick an S.A. kid who should be pick 30 in the draft.
Building an elite squad right there.

You have more chance by copping some Vic guys going home and getting the picks or a player back via trade or compo.

Your si
If we went SA only in the draft, we'd have to pretty much recruit the SA state team to win a flag.

Your so intellectual you get your footy info from radio national I restate the fact in 17 years where has this rats maze if a selection policy got us it is more about inducing an insular fortress like culture in the club instead of being a nursery for other clubs

Draft pick numbers is rarely an indication of the players net worth after their carrer is done changing culture however can turn average players into champs

Good culture alone is not going to turn Grigg into Hodge

Good culture should also be the key to retaining our best players no matter what state they are from

We need to have access to all the talent pools

Since we recruited Dangerfield. The Crows have been pretty good at spotting talent in the draft. But excluding most of the draft pool just because fans want players that won't move is hands down the dumbest way to run a list.

Even if we did recruit SA players the opportunity would arise for a Vic club to poach our players.

We would have so much sub-par talent on our list that any star-quality players would be easy pickings. Big Money offered to go to a successful club.

At least posters would stop complaining about how were are perennially a "mid-table" club. We'd just be perennially cellar dwellers "embracing failure" rather than that old gem "mediocrity".
