I’m definitely keeping a lid on it.

That is some tall timber Shai is leaping over there too!

Been thinking about Young this week. Coming off a an injury, should be running soon. We have a midfield with the best two way mid in the league, one of the best clearance mids and Young who is becoming a very dangerous mid forward.

I can't wait to see the development in them this season!

I had a dream last night, no idea if it was Round 1 or whatnots as Freo were in white, but we were thumping Port 73-7 at one stage!!! Bolton had already kicked 5 I think, but the halftime highlights were showing Walters back to near-best form, feeding off of crumbing Bolton (at one stage he'd kicked a ridiculous dribbling goal..), and the fact defenders were having a hard time stopping them!!

Premonition?!

Different coach would got us to a top 4 the past season.

Two failures in a row isn’t good enough.
Not with our list/team age profile. It would be a huge fluke for it to happen, let alone twice.

We had to step back to go forward. This season, we haven’t lost anyone and are only making the squad better.

I’d be booking flights early.

I hope we see some of Walters magic again, but the rest I am board with! We will smash some teams this season. absolutely smash them.

Now that's some dream. You would need to change the sheets after that one 🤣

I’m going with Shai Bolton kicking our 1st goal of the 2025 season with his 1st kick for Fremantle.

Probably the grand final 😂

I really rate the list.

JLo lack of creativity hurt us ie same 6-6-6 forward set and kick out set up.

I really can’t understand why you have 3 or 4 set up. It’s just too easy to scout with one set up.

Given it is a set play we should be able to have a lot more plans than just the 3-4 we role with.

6-6-6 forward set up we only have one. Three deep usually all talls, only seen Walters rarely in the goal square and three smalls high on the 50m metres line.

I like this set up but having one is a real issue for me.

Main reason I want JLo to go.

I don’t buy these injury excuses at all.

We will have more key players injured next year. I don’t know for certain what will happen in 2025 but I can guarantee you that at least - important players will miss big games though injury for freo.
And every other club in the AFL.

Hawks lost their number one key forward for the entire season in Mitch Lewis.
They they wanted the finals without Will Day, their best inside mid.

That would be like us losing Treacy and Young.

They still found a way to get it done.
Been off for a while so catching up. This is unadulterated horse-shit. If Hawks had our run-in, they don't make it. Not saying we didn't underachieve (should've put Essendon to the sword to ice it), but we pushed a pair of Prelim sides hard missing key parts of our team. Mitch Lewis is a KPF, not their forward line general (any one that doesn't think Treacy's organising that line hasn't been watching), plus Dear came in and I'd argue has overtaking him in the pecking order. Sicily is comparable to Pearce for them, and they were shit til he came back. Midfielders can be covered more easily with scheme, especially with a dominant ruck (hello Meeky), that's why a fully fit Darcy is integral to our success.

Anyway, we're stacked for this year, hungry as, more developed, and have had the majority of the group play over 30/40 games together. Top four or bust for mine.

You may think it’s “unadulterated horse shit” but the facts show the hawks won more games than us and were a better team in 2024. The ladder just doesnt lie. The best 8 teams across the season won the most games and deservedly played finals. The Hawks were a kick away from a prelim against a flaky Sydney team in the end.

I get your point about Pearce and Treacy but that’s not dissimilar to most other clubs.
I can’t stand the injuries excuse. Every bloody team gets injuries. Brisbane were missing some absolute guns though injury for large chunks of the season.

To be honest - I felt we had a better than average run with injuries this season.
We will be doing well if we have a similar injury rate in 2025.
Darcy being counted as a massive out through injury in 2024 is more debatable as he was unavailable most of the season and we had ample time to devise an alternative strategy but didn’t land on one till round 23 when Reidy debuted. That is 100% on the coach and match committee.

So if Pearce and Treacy and Darcy miss large chunks of next season does the coach again get a pass if we finish 10th?
I hope not.

Also - Pearce and Darcy have been shown to be much more injury prone than the average afl player across their careers, yet we have still built our structure and gameplan around them. That a risk we take as a footy club, and it’s a high risk high reward strategy (which I can understand as they are both excellent players when fit).
However if they break down in-season again, we can’t accept that as an excuse for yet another failed campaign.
We could have easily traded Darcy out but chose to keep him. Thats fine and I support the decision for what’s it worth - but if he’s unavailable yet again though injury in 2025 the club doesn’t get to use that as a mulligan.

You're in the wrong thread mate.

Hawks had a lot of RNG go their way and Freo had it the other way. Could have easily been the other way around.
