Would be the 500th Hawthorn player known to have passed.
I noticed Wikipedia has both Rod Horrocks and John McCashney with a DOD of July 8 2023, but AustralianFootball.com and the Season Guide obituaries page have 8/8/2023 for Horrocks.515 players are listed on WikiData.

Thanks for that. Wikidata/Wikipedia should always just reflect the truth, not be the setter of it. The "member of sports team" parameter is able to differentiate by league, and/or time, but those qualifiers aren't often used, and the queries I use don't account for it, so the VFA vs VFL is always going to be an issue. SANFL vs AFL for Port is a much bigger problem. These 16 guys on that list didn't play VFL/AFL for Hawthorn
Which gets us back to a total of 500.
That does make it look like the AFL has the wrong DOD, but was he really cremated more than a year after he died?!:Thanks for that. I started to update Horrocks from July to August, then I found this that says July.
Do you have any references to an obituary or cemetery record for Turnbull?
Gordon Munro, who I mentioned earlier, is also on that Wiki list, but didn't play VFL/AFL for Hawthorn. These 16 guys on that list didn't play VFL/AFL for Hawthorn

But that list is missing
Turnbull, Lindsay Wallace - DOD 22/11/2023

There is nothing I can see in Ryerson, it may be that he had no next of kin or was estranged from them, so they may have had to wait 12 months? Is that a thing? That does make it look like the AFL has the wrong DOD, but was he really cremated more than a year after he died?!:

Surely they mean 12 July 2023 for the Date of service?!
Edit: I note the issue of the DOD in the Season Guide being incorrect was raised here: https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/recent-deaths.1186497/page-29#post-82333716
Not sure! I think it's probably a mistake on the cemetery website. I couldn't find the Horrocks name on the list of 2024 services for the listed funeral directors. There is nothing I can see in Ryerson, it may be that he had no next of kin or was estranged from them, so they may have had to wait 12 months? Curiously, upon googling his full name, Martin Bryant was charged with attempting to murder a man by that same name. The court transcript mentions his wife. Anyone know if it was him?
Right yes...Gordon Munro, who I mentioned earlier, is also on that Wiki list, but didn't play VFL/AFL for Hawthorn.
George Noonan as well.
No sorry, I probably got it from this...Do you have any references to an obituary or cemetery record for Turnbull?
Someone did enter a DOD for Wally on his Wiki page a while back, but they didn't do a very good job:Right yes...
And the list is missing Wally Nash (20/6/24) and the nefarious Alf Neeson.
Neeson is on this list of people over 80 without a date of deaths. Some, obviously are still alive. Others, are not, but hard to find. Here are the Hawthorn over 90s:Right yes...

I think that would have to be the old Hawk.
Anything new on Jim Rattray?
I have a possible but if there is further I wont mention it as its fairly vague
