Is Travis Hrad batting himself out of the first test or does he have enough credits in the bank??

He’s had a pretty average start to the season
Needs to make runs in the next couple of games. Especially with Handscomb in really good form

19 runs from his past 4 innings suggests the Test selectors may need to look elsewhere. I've been an advocate of Henry Hunt, but he's becoming a true Redback as well. Apart from his 97 not out, he's made only 38 runs from his other 4 innings. Carey needs a score soon as well. He's made 44 from his past 3 innings. Take out the 73 against Tassie and Lehmann has totaled 60 runs in his other 4 innings. You only need 1 decent score in 5 matches to keep your spot in the Redbacks team. How can an entire batting line-up be out of form?

Just hand the wooden spoon to the Redbacks already for the 6th consecutive season, and our 15th in 27 seasons since we last won in 1995-96. Redbacks are nothing better than a bad joke. Angry? You bet I am because we've just sat on our hands for the past quarter of a century and done nothing to improve ourselves. We deserve it.

Has to be out of Head and Maddinson for the domestic player who produces the ugliest dismissals time after time. Another stinker today.

100% this.

The SACA has a lot to answer for......when has anyone from the board stood up and said (in regards to the Redbacks) enough is enough?? They're happy to let the cash roll in from the big bash and the attendances at the test match yet do SFA about the state of our shield side.

I've said it before but Gillespie has gotten away with not being held accountable because he is a good bloke. I know some on here say its the state of District Cricket but we've been hearing these same things for the past 25 years....... Gillespie was appointed to fix the shield side and has not done so...

Where are our young stars??? Can anyone name a player who looks like he'll be our next test player (excluding Hunt)? Have a look at W.A. - Teague Wyley 104 against NSW at 18 years of age (youngest player to score a shield century since Ponting in 1992/93)....the young guy from Victoria who batted all day vs Queensland for 119* last week (20 years old).....who are our young stars coming through?????

We seem to recruit bog average players from interstate except for only a couple that have been ok (Phil Hughes tick; Henry Hunt (work in progress) but probably a tick) ........ if we are serious then lets go after good players on the fringe of test cricket who are hungry to get ack there (i.e. Maddinson who has had 2 great years with Victoria)

It's embarrassing.....

There have been plenty of local youngsters over the years worthy of a first class career but when you have a thug and bully running the place it's no wonder they don't progress or leave altogether.

The board don't want to rock the boat and get kicked off otherwise they miss out on their free tickets to the AFL and any concert that is hosted at AO!!

Still a few more shield games to go before the first test in perth so he has time to change it around

Has started poorly but I think he will play in the first test

I guess my major complaint is the number of chances some players get in comparison with others. I won't mention names, but several years ago a local lad opened the batting and averaged 40 for the season. In my book, a promising start. The following season in the first game he made a pair. Dropped, never given another chance. One failure and he was gone.

I'm not suggesting selectors don't know their cricket, they do. I'm suggesting that some players are brought in from interstate and given more opportunity to prove themselves than others.

Now he's been given a 2-year extension!!! Talk about rewarding failure and mediocrity. Pathetic.

He was on AA couple of weeks ago and basically said it's continued work in progress. Back tracked a bit and was hesitant when Rowe put some heat on him for the performances over the past 2 years that he has been in charge.

We did have a good win against Tassie so lets see what happens for the rest of the shield season...

To Dizzy's credit he looks to have made some decent recruiting moves this year (McSweeney, Manenti)as well as McAndrew previously... and he can't be held accountable for our deplorable grade system.

Kelly shows promise and needs to get a decent run of games, Drew has showed some ability to get scores and Nielsen is a decent back up to Carey. If Dizzy can get the best out of these 3 and turn them into solid first class players... that will be the real test for mine and he requires at least another year to do that.

Dizzy seems a nice guy but for a bloke who likes to consider himself a bit different he is actually the opposite. Very bland and lacking cricketing insight given his glittering cricket resume. Resorts to cliches when questioned.

1. Jake Weatherald
2. Henry Hunt
3. Nathan McSweeney
4. Daniel Drew
5. Jake Lehmann
6. Harry Nielsen
7. Nathan McAndrew
8. Ben Mantenti
9. Wes Agar
10. Brendan Doggett
11. Jordan Buckingham

You'd imagine they'd be pretty tempted to give Johnson a shield match or some one dayers? Wasn't great in the handful of List A matches he played years ago but looks a completely different bowler now, bowls a perfect length for FC cricket imo

When was the last time we won 2 in a row????

Hunt has stepped down as Captain to focus on making runs. Jake Lehmann to take over for the rest of the season.
Understand the reasons and he hasn’t had the season he would have hoped for after the last 2 seasons, but Lehman shouldn’t be in the team let alone captain. Surely Nielsen is a better option?

I'm not a huge Nielsen fan but even I agree with that.

I personally would of moved on Lehmann from the team but even if he is currently in the best team he hasn't done enough to guarantee himself a game.

Outside those two not sure who else could do it? Agar and maybe Drew?
