I dislike both teams, probably the DEES a little less.
Not sure who to get behind.
Still cant believe port choked that hard. Worst performance since the 07 GF.

Considering the old father son system was a second rounder for the player, the bidding and matching system is a lot better than it was.
Yeah, Geelong benefited big time off that. They changed the rule after Hawkins.

Also on the Melbourne bandwagon but these are two teams that range from 'I couldn't give a toss about' to 'hope they fold or f*** off to Tassie'.

I know it's generally better to finish top eight and give young players a taste of the finals than to miss out altogether. But I have to say I'm kind of relieved we didn't get there this year - we would have been annihilated.
As an ageing side, I feel like we need a long post-season to regroup and come in fresh for next year - look at how Richmond and Geelong (albeit in a prelim) fizzled out this year on the back of a late-October grand final in 2020.
I don't have a heap of love for Melbourne but would definitely prefer them ahead of the Footscray cheats. The Dees look the more complete side for mine and as another poster said, the hype is actually justified now. Gawn, Oliver and Petracca have become supremely talented players. Hope it's a decent game

-Finish 3rd in 2001 - lose in straight sets
-Finish 1st in 2001, lose home qualifying final and knocked out in prelim
-Finish 1st in 2002, lose home qualifying final and knocked out in prelim
-Finish 1st in 2004 and finally get a flag
-Lose GF by record in 2007
-Finish 1st in 2020 and lose home prelim
-Finish 2nd in 2021 and lose home prelim
They should have at least 2 or 3 more GF appearances and one or two more flags.

I’m liking pre-GF bye.
Much better idea than first week of finals bye.
Gives teams the chance to get ‘healthy before the GF, allows concussed players a chance to have their time off and be selected.

Yes, if we'd gotten slightly closer to Brisbane in Rd 23, this would have been a QF rather than the GF!

I was thinking more along the lines of the lack of effort and intent that was apparent at times throughout our season.

I think if we were any chance of making it they'd have had the game in Brisbane or Adelaide.

Nah. AFL make a lot more money having it here than SA/Qld. The AFL don't hate us as much as people here have convinced themselves
Imagine being a Port fan and hearing the players and coaches say all year 'Last year still burns at us.' and 'We are going to use last years Prelim as motivation.' Only for them to lay a complete and utter egg AGAIN this year. Losing by 70 points in a home prelim against a well under strength team with a full list of players to pick from. I'd tell the players and coaches to shove it up their ass as a fan if I have to hear that same rhetoric again.
Bont and gawn are 2 of my favourite players outside of the eagles so its a tough choice.
I also think oliver has the most punchable head in footy.

Should be some nice camping spots free on the long weekend, this shall be the first GF in about a decade that I won't be watching

I hate finals byes. There is so much excitement and momentum but they go and crushed it with a week off. This feel worse than the original bye happening after Rnd23, as everyone is now pumped for the big game, but it won't be played for 2 weeks.
