Last time by position a non-midfielder has won the Brownlow

Ruck: Adam Goodes 2006* (if you count him as a ruck as he was more a midfielder, otherwise Scott Wynd in 1992)
Full-Forward: Tony Lockett 1987
Rebounding Defender: Gavin Wanganeen 1993
Centre-Half Back: Ross Glendinning 1983

Not sure a Fulll-back has ever won the award? I stand to be corrected on that

My sister just won 4 tickets to the GF through the west australians golden ticket... im going but im also prone too panic attacks, buts its a once in a life to opportunity, this is the weirdest feeling of pumped and nervous ever
Not much to panic over considering it’s dees and dogs so you’ll be right ;)

Dawson nominating the Crows over the Power is a big win for the Crows, thought Power were the favorites there to land him

Agreed, caught me by surprise as well, as everything that I have been hearing for months coming is that he would have a preference for Port due to wanting to play in a team that is at the top end of the ladder.

Seems the offer from Adelaide was significantly higher than anything Port could put forward.

Does also make you wonder if Port losing consecutive home Preliminary Finals, in addition to their two most senior assistants under Hinkley were deciding factors in his decision to nominate the Crows.

Dawson a Backman right? They lost their midfield coaches so as with us this year think it will have a big impact on their backline.

Verdun Howell (1959) is usually listed as a fullback, but at 179cm that seems small even for his day.

Fred Goldsmith (1955) is the other who is listed as a fullback and at 183cm was probably just tall enough to play full back for his 1950's playing days.

For historical comparison, leading full forwards of the day were John Coleman (185), Ron Evans (188), John Peck (188), Jack Collins (183), Jock Spencer (185).

It's all about disposals for the umps...
Yep, and rarely do they seem to even take into account quality disposals.

That's why Pendles always underwhelmed a bit come Brownlow Night, and Priddis has a medal in his top drawer.

That being said, Jack Macrae was probably wondering why his name wasn't getting much of a shout out.

I've pretty much come to terms with it being a midfielders award, even if I don't agree with it, especially the snubbing of ruckmen and key forwards. But I would like to see the umpire's stop being so lazy about it which is why we have these massive vote tallies now. 9 of the last 13 has seen the winner go 30 or more after only happening four times in the first 85 counts. "Which team's star midfielders did we see get plenty of ball today?"... When jotting down your 3-2-1 you know that strategy means you can't find yourself in for too much criticism.

Haven’t watched enough of Melbourne this year to know if this still applies but in 2018 Vardy and Lycett targeted Gawn physically. Back then he wasn’t overly keen on it

Like I said I’m not sure if that’s still the case but I notice that the bulldogs are talking up that tactic. Martin seems capable of it, English not so much

Martin needs to clobber him at every contest and English needs to run him ragged.

Not sure they're up to it vs 2021 vintage Gawn. Especially when Melbourne also have a pretty bloody good backup themselves.

On the plus side from a Doggies perspective, their midfield will be used to their ruckman getting beaten every week unlike our pack of soft pretenders.

Yeah, can't see ether Dogs' ruckman beating Gawn and, like you said, Jackson is probably better than both of them on his own anyway.
