Pretty poor game by Robertson tonight and Tunstill had a tough debut. Brisbane’s bottom six players weren’t really up to the heat of the game. A few key players out and teams are exposed.

Oliver, Petracca and Viney combining for 100 disposals.

No chance of winning if you allow that.

Brisbane have a major problem on their hands that isn't going to go away as the season progresses - M.Robinson is absolutely cooked, and without his body being thrown around the Lions midfield has a very soft underbelly.

The only midfielder on their list above 190cm is J.Berry, who is going backwards.

They also lack a good tagging option. Viney is only 178cm - Fagan should have put the clamps on him during the second quarter before the match got away.

Why Brisbane haven't tried Starcevich higher up the ground in such situations is baffling.

Brisbane are really disappointing. I'd hoped they could win the flag but they've absolutely fallen to pieces against Freo and now Melb. On paper they have everything they need to be a top team, but have not performed. 3 top 4 finishes in a row for only one finals win - that's absolutely shocking.

The worst thing in football is when you hit the pointy end of the ladder but are not quite good enough to get it done. We're very fortunate that our club has always got one when we've had a squad up and about.

Brissie going to fall back into the pack without bagging one I reckon.

Melbourne put on a physical tour de force tonight. I think that brand of football, at that level of execution beats anyone else's game plan but I doubt they can sustain it.

Goody will have to turn the wick down and hope it's on tap come September.

You'd still think Brissy will be top 4.

From there who knows

They did this whilst playing pretty much a whole season at home with the grand final at their home ground. They barely even fired a shot against a team who’d lost 3 in a row during a regular season game at the G. Not sure how it changes if they somehow make it through.

In saying that given the likely contenders around them in Melb, Freo, Geelong and Richmond I sure am rooting for them!

Jackson is a solid ruckman but I hope we don’t go for him. Maybe I’m talking myself into thinking this because he’d likely go to Freo anyway, but for what he’d want to be paid, he isn’t that amazing and got a feeling he might come home on a big contract, a premiership winner in a dominant team beside the best ruckman of the last few years and maybe never live up to those heights again when he’s the main man.

Hopefully Freo pay overs and he does just that.
I’d much prefer building a solid midfield and scoring a decent ruck later.

I know he’s a bit younger, but doesn’t hold a candle to Tim English IMO

I agree that he'll probably cost too much and the big contracts never seem to work out so really hope we dont sell the farm....but i also dont know how you could watch that game tonight and come to the conclusion of "never live up to those heights again when he’s the main man"

He played as the main man tonight against the most restrictive ruckman in the league and had 21 disposals, 4 marks, 18 hit outs, 9, 10 contested possessions and a goal.....as a 20 year old.

Take him all day long over English personally, and it's not close

Expected Melbourne to bounce back given their quality and Brisbane's record at the ground, but Lions missing Bailey confirmed the tip for me. He's so damaging, and will usually kick a couple of goals as well as hand some off from 20ish touches. Brisbane's smalls looked pretty toothless without his goalkicking threat and Cameron blanketed. They remind me a bit of that 2008-10 Bulldogs side that used to pummel teams, but couldn't get it done against the Geelong/St Kilda/Hawks/Pies sides who were the benchmarks in those years.

Cheese and chalk.

I'll go Cheese and Wine thanks. Doesn't need to be overly expensive. 2017 Stella Bella Shiraz will go well. Just make sure it's a 2017, very good vintage.
Nothing fancy, just make sure it's from the right year and from a vine from the western side of a hill that gets the afternoon sun.

Carlton so good at not panicking and taking time to choose the right option in contested situations.
Never put a teammate under pressure unnecessarily.
