No point whining. Whining will do nothing. It's a Victorian game, played in Victoria, for the Victorians.

At the very least, the "All-Stars" should be getting to weartheir own state guernseys. There's no clash with Victoria if they do it right, who cares if there's multiple guernseys out there.

We all need to hope the All-Stars destroy Victoria. If the campaigners did it back in 2008 instead of being overrun by the Victorian wankfest, we probably would have more legs to stand on for separate states. But if an All-Stars side can't even knock over a single state, the argument is gonna be mute with the Victorian hierarchy who run this shit.

NBA All Star format. Team LeBron vs Team Giannis.

Two captains, do a draft. Dusty picks someone, Fyfe (or whoever) picks someone. Repeat.
Again - AFLX is the answer fam.

Whats the better alternative for a one off game ?

I understand your point and in all honesty you’re probably right. A Victorian v All Stars team is the most obvious and convenient option for a one off charity game.

What pisses me off is how this game is being dressed up as SOO returning because in the minds of our friends in the little southeast corner of the country the big v = SOO which is completely ignorant of how State of a Origin came to be

“For years they took the best of us
And claimed them for their own”

Yes that’s the opening lines of the original Eagles song but it underpins the relationship between WA (and SA) and Victorian football. The VFL was the biggest competition and as a result attracted many of the best WA and SA players once they’d established themselves in their respective competitions

Prior to 1977 when state football was played teams were selected based on the leagues players were involved in so you had the bizarre situation where WA players would play for Victoria against WA. Unsurprisingly Victoria dominated state football

In 1977 after extended negotiations, Victoria finally agreed to play a SOO game against WA where teams were selected based on the state they came from as opposed to the league they played in. WA won the game by 94 points and SOO was born.

This is all likely before your time but Victoria had to be dragged kicking and screaming into SOO football.

Fast forward to this charity game being referred to as some sort of return to SOO when only half those involved will actually be representing their state and it just happens to be Victoria. The very same state that actively tried to block SOO from ever existing

So yeah it pisses me off when I see a tweet parading Martin in a Victorian jumper celebrating the return of state of origin and the big v

Other than ourselves and Richmond, no one stands out for me. Very, very even year.

Brisbane are a standout as well or possibly get targeted and fall away..

I’m expecting Saints to be the big improver this year they have traded reasonably well getting Hill , Zac Jones ,Dan Butler and Ryder ..

Hawks I think will bounce back into the top 8.

Getting Mitchell back will strengthen the Hawks so yeah agree , they will be around the bottom top 8 area which will be tight and competitive , as teams with a lot of early season hope and new coaches will be raring to go ..

That useless insult towards Tayla has cut pretty deep it seems. I like it, she needed to be taken down a peg in my opinion.

It has certainly created some chit chat - and in my view, good chit chat about AFLW.

I heard that interview on the radio, and the comment took me by surprise.

Not that I thought there was anything wrong with it, just that the men are media trained to within an inch of their lives and much of what they say is incredibly sanitised and predictable.

Fair bump, play on.

I prefer players jsut speaking their minds (within reason), keeps things interesting and spicy. But if you are going to talk smack, you better back it up.

The best assest that the aflw has are the players. They need to lean into their stories and personalities. This sort of thing is fantastic for creating interest and ultimately having people recognise players names rather than just team color.

Latest tip is that the All Stars lost the toss and will be skins for the big game.
