Re: L.A., Relocations, & League Expansion

Your question should be, "Could the Rams playing three games in London be a prelude to a move to LONDON?"

Remember Stan Kronke is the majority owner of Arsenal as well.

By 2015, we better get used to call it London Monarchs, Royals or the Blitz, the current team in BAFL (British American Football League) who won 4 league championships, if Kroenke decides to move the team across the pond!

What's next, Toronto Bills or Sydney Kangaroos??

London Rams doesn't sounds as stupid as other relocated teams that kept old nicknames..... Minneapolis Lakers made sense, but Los Angeles Lakers doesn't at all. Yet they've made a success out of it.

The Rams are a pretty historic franchise, the only franchise to have won NFL championships in 3 different cities(Cleveland, LA, StL). They were also the first team to sport a logo on their helmets. If they move, they'll keep the Rams logo and nickname.

Yes, they can find success everywhere they played in, but the question is that can the Rams in London find a home-field advantage in the UK and try to become the first NFL team outside the USA to win the SuperBowl and claim themselves as the true "world" champs?

That is true, but the logistics of having 31 American teams and 1 team as far away as the other side of the North Atlantic would be ridiculous for the NFL to allow.

Re: L.A., Relocations, & League Expansion

It would be cheaper and shorter for the Jets/Giants to travel to London than to the pro bowl.

(Still can't believe how cheap some BA flights from London - New York are

Think Adelaide - Brisbane fares

Sure it might "look" weird logistically. But the University of Hawaii makes it work for multiple sporting teams, at relatively comparable distances from the American West Coast as London is to the American East Coast.

Here's a hot tip to bookmark...

Kroenke will announce the Rams moving to LA very soon. Will play out of the Coliseum until winning bid stadium built.

Talks over Rams lease have St Louis on edge

+

Kroenke Making a Bid to Purchase the LA Dodgers

Stan Kroenke owns the St. Louis Rams. And the English soccer club Arsenal. He also owns, through family members, the NBA’s Denver Nuggets and the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche.

But he doesn’t own a baseball team. Yet.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Kroenke has “explored” the possibility of joining the bidding for the L.A. Dodgers.

Though the process, with more than 10 candidates to purchase the team from Frank McCourt, is far from complete, a successful effort by Kroenke to buy the Dodgers could be regarded as the first tangible step toward moving the Rams to Los Angeles.

And here’s where things get even more interesting. If Kroenke owns the Dodgers and another team moves to Los Angeles, how would the NFL’s cross-ownership rules apply? Currently, an owner of an NFL team can own a non-football team in another market as long as there’s no NFL team in that market. If Kroenke buys a baseball team in Los Angeles, which would be permissible, and then an NFL team other than the one owned by Kroenke moves there, the situation could get dicey, to say the least.

We’ve asked the league for clarification of the manner in which the cross-ownership rules would apply in this situation.

It may be that Kroenke would merely be required at that point to transfer the paperwork of the Dodgers to another family member. Regardless, it would be hard not to view a purchase of the Dodgers as a potential precursor to moving the Rams to the same town.

Re: L.A., Relocations, & League Expansion

Think it would be cool to see a team back in LA. I know there are those that say they have had their chances before and didn't support it but I really believe LA Rams is an almost foregone conclusion, well I certainly hope so. No doubt the league would look at the occasional double header on a Sunday or Monday night with the massive LA TV market at their disposal. What better way to spend a Monday...

Re: L.A., Relocations, & League Expansion

Looks like it won't be the Vikings:

The Minnesota Vikings and state and local representatives are finally ready to bring forward a legislative proposal to build a new stadium for the team.
A news conference is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday to detail the proposal.

A person who sat in on negotiations Wednesday evening and requested anonymity ahead of an announcement later Thursday said the stadium would be built near the team's current Metrodome site.
The person said the Vikings would pay more than 50 percent of construction and operating costs, would be required to stay for at least 30 years and that no new local or state taxes would be imposed.

Re: L.A., Relocations, & League Expansion

And LA's a theatre and movie town.

FYP.

That said, I think you could keep the same divisional alignments even with the hypothetical L.A Vikings in the NFC North.

I mean, it wasnt that long ago that the Arizona Cardinals were in the NFC East, along with Dallas which is right on the East Coast isn't it...

What about the 95-01 NFC West

Panthers, Saints, Falcons in with the Rams and 49ers

Re: L.A., Relocations, & League Expansion

Would hate to see the Vikings leave Minnie. And im a Packers man.

Think itll be St Louis San Diego or Oakland.

Re: L.A., Relocations, & League Expansion

We'll find out in a couple days if the Raiders to LA gathers steam or not.

Next Tuesday, March 6, 2012 @ 5:30 pm, the entire Oakland City Council will meet and issue a critical vote on whether to fund the Developers and Environmental Impact Report for “Coliseum City”, the proposed new stadiums and arena for the Raiders, Athletics, and Warriors respectively. This proposal also includes a new mall, business park, restaurants, convention center, and other retail outlets near and around the Oakland airport.

-

Oakland has some of the oldest professional sports facilities in the country (O.co Coliseum and Oracle Arena), and if new replacements cannot be built in the very near future, Oakland could be left with 0 professional sports franchises by 2017.

-

The aforementioned Oakland sports franchises are more than just sports teams to the City of Oakland and County of Alameda. At a bare minimum, they are an industry that employs thousands of people, and raises hundreds of thousands of dollars for charities in and around Oakland every single year. A little known fact is that our East Bay pro athletes visit sick children in hospitals every week, but most of the greater media outlets only advertise the negative side of our city to the rest of the world. Oakland is so much more than just the former murder capital of the world, the Occupy movement hotspot, and political mess that so many outsiders portray it as. Take the time to scratch beneath the surface. Oakland is in desperate need to retain its sporting franchises.

-

Think about this, and think about it hard: if all three sports franchises were to eventually leave Oakland, 111 years of tradition (professional sports in Oakland) would be gone forever. It would be truly sad and devastating to the economy, reputation, and pride of Oakland. If you will, a black eye that the City of Oakland could never recover from.

-

If you truly support the “Coliseum City” redevelopment plan, and want the Raiders, Athletics, and Warriors to remain and thrive in Oakland long into the future, please be present this coming Tuesday (March 6th) at Oakland City Hall, and sport your Silver and Black, Green and Gold, or Royal Blue and Gold. Stand up and be counted, and let the City Council know that this issue is very important to you and your community.

WHEN: Next Tuesday, March 6, 2012 @ 5:30 pm

-

WHERE: Oakland City Hall – 1 Frank H. Ogawa Plaza – Oakland, CA 94612 – City Council Chambers, 3rd Floor

NFC South, NFC West and AFC South are divisions that I don't mind being re-structured. The other ones are more established with heated rivalries that shouldn't be touched, even with relocation.

I think the temporary relocation for the Rams would be London between 2014-2016 till the LA's new stadium opens. The reason is that Kroenke is also the owner of Arsenal, which plays at Wembley Stadium. With the commissioner's support by awarding Rams three home games from 2012-2014, no doubt that London will be a temporary move till the opening in 2016.

wow, just, wow.

Oops, sorry, a stupid error on Wembley Stadium... Arsenal played in Emirates Stadium, not Wembley Stadium. No club ever played in Wembley Stadium except English national football team. Thanks Dirty Bird for pointing the error out

Clubs do play at Wembley for the FA Cup final in a "neutral" capacity.
