Can't help to admire the Blues and the way they go about it. They were really stiff that they had to travel this year given the amount of games they won but they put up a very honourable performence.

They aren't too far away from causing a heap of damage. It will be interesting to see if they look to top up on an experienced player or two.

Can honestly say I'd be more than happy to see the Dons aquite themselves next year the way the Blues have over the last few seasons.

Yep. Fairly disgraceful umpiring display tonight though. Was fairly obvious the best team lost due to garbage calls.

Great game of footy though. Best game for the year by a mile!

I don't like to bring up umpires but that non call to Walker in the dying moments in the goal square was perplexing.

you are joking surely? i thought it was great umpiring. set the tempo early and then let it go in the second half. You go for gold coast so obviously dont know how finals are or should be umpired

Ironic post is ironic.

Might be loser speech, but extremely proud of the boys. For a team that's had a perception of being front runners these couple of seasons, they've shown this season that they're anything but.

As hard and tough a game of footy as you'll see this year, and for Carlton to perform so well away from home, without Gibbs, Kreuzer and Waite, is a credit to themselves.

Not that the majority of opposition supporters will acknowledge it. Cannot wait to see what season 2012 has in store for us.

Shattered!! Bright future though. Mitchy Robinson will be a force next year. Just needs some polish on his skill. Ellard looks a gem. Garlett, Armfield, Yarran and Henderson will be a year older. A fit Kruezer and Waite will make a difference.

Looking forward to next March. Top four is a given... maybe!!!

I don't think it lost us the game, but surely over-umpiring to the extreme for a half before completely changing to the opposite would not be considered great?

Just let them play all game

Also really proud of the boys.

We were the 5th best team in the comp and that showed throughout the year and influenced the result tonight.

Big challenge next year to step up again.

eagles got an extremely soft draw in 2011. all things being equal blues would have likely finished 3rd. blues decimated by injuries to talls in the second half of the season and molested by the umpires tonight. gallant effort.

Yes it is a cop out blaming the umpires. My fellow Carlton supporters need to learn the rules as not to embarrass ourselves. If you read the rule book you would notice the following 2 rules:

A) if a West Coast player is caught holding the ball but they manage to score a goal from the spillage within 5 seconds of the tackle, then a holding the ball decision will not be called. (ie Shuey tackled- Nicoski goaled)

B) if the ball is touched before the West Coast goal line, it must clear the goal line by a minimum of 50 cm to be deemed a point or else it is considered play on- unless an opposition player is in possession of the ball after it has crossed the line, then it is deemed a point.

That was never a free kick... were not playing under 7's girls.

Held completely out of the contest, was the most obvious free kick of the night when even the small things were being paid, the umpires shit themselves in the last quarter and were too scared to pay a free kick that was clearly there.

Carlton were excellent tonight. Missing Gibbs, waite and kreuzer and carrying spuds such Armfield, Joseph, Ellard there is a lot of improvement that can be done to take the next steps. Tuohy has the potential to lift his game a couple of notches. Judd was not himself. West Coast beat geelong earlier in the year and have the tools to take on Ottens so they are a reasonable chance to cause an upset next week.

Harsh on Ellard, he played quite well.

Davies was awful. Gibbs in his place was enough to change the result.
