Respect to Carlton

for any umpiring that was questionable i often seen a carlton mistake anyhow. plenty of periods where eagles could take it all the way to their forward line pretty much uncontested through the middle, which has been a major symptom of poor carlton efforts in recent years.
their big men did some good things when it mattered the most.

Ignoring the bullshit responses from all sides, you definately have to give respect to Carlton. The team was down by a few goals in hostile territory and never gave up, had the bounce of the ball differed(or the umpiring for that matter), the Blues could have won.

Kudos to the team and to the supporters humble enough to be gracious losers. As much as I hate your club, I can't help but respect them, as well as the more realistic supporters. :thumbsu:

Massive respect goes out to Carlton after tonight. Coming into the game I thought we were looking at a 5-6 goal win, but that was a very gutsy effort by your mob, especially considering Scott Selwood basically shut Judd right out of the game.

We should get pumped by Geelong next week but I think both teams can step it up to the next level next year. Carlton only really lack a big target in the forward line. If they still had someone of the calibre of fevola they would be on par with Geelong and collingwood.

I just hope guys like gaff and darling can step it up another level next year. If they do we will be a genuine contender.

The general consensus will be that Carlton deserve respect after their performance.

I differ. Watching a team play a final with setanta ohailpin and Brett Thornton as key forwards was embarrassing and should have been punished.

Let's face it. Murphy, Judd and Simpson didn't miss a game this year. Let's see who will step up from the bullants next year, Kane Lucas? Brock McLean?.

Don't be deceived people, walker, garlett and betts are not conducive to finals success

Thanks for the noble gesture from the OP Sir Jimi and, as a Carlton supporter, I take it in the manner in which I am sure it was intended. :thumbsu: . I think the Blues have earned themselves some respect, over this year, and particularly in the last two week as I thought last weeks win over Essendon was massive for the Blues (maybe only Essendon and Carlton supporters realise how massive !)

I know I had my own doubts all year but they are slowly being erased and I look forward to 2012.

Unfortunately, this thread has gone down the predictable path and turned into the usual slanging match.

It is a trend with these type of close defeats that the immediate after game hype around a brave effort turns into a bit of a wankfest - as much from our own supporters.

At the end of the day, we lost a game we could have won (not should have won) and I cannot stand hearing our supporters (or any supporters) whinge about the umpiring.

All this should not detract from the Eagles who have been magnificent and were great again last night -can't believe the resurgence of Kerr and Cox - great champions !!

LOL - respect to Carlton? Should we have a thread for each of the finalists who didn't advance. Is it like a prize for all the losers?

Well, thank you for playing Carlton. You were good. But not good enough.

The umpiring sucked last night, but it didn't cost us the game. You don't earn respect by bitching about the umps!

Yeh, it was a brave effort by the boys. The taped together forward line just wasn't good enough to worry the solid Eagles defenders often enough, and costly misses/mistakes/failure to convert at key times was the difference.

The Weagles have done wonderfully well to come form last to top 4, and deserved to win last night. Did a lot of damage from outright clearance wins in the middle from the ruck duo and Kerr/Priddis.

Blues will be alright.

I don't like Carlton. Their supporters give me the s*^%s.

I laugh when I see or hear Ratten. I laugh at their forward line, I laugh at their backline.

That does not matter here. Last night they showed fight right to the end. And nearly came away with an inspirational victory. Fantastic effort.

I still hate you bastards, but I respect you a little more than I have lately.;)

Not sure why a lot of people think the Blues need a KPF. Throw in their outs from last night and they'd have won. Sure it would help, but all teams have their weaknesses. Even premiership teams.

I have the horrible feeling the Blues will be, injuries permitting, playing in the GF next year, and I'm gonna hate this club even more. Somehow I suspect thats how they'd like it.

And look, deep down, that's all we really want. Your hate. :D

I escorted my Essendon fan friend out of my house last night after the game, and his wife was telling him to be nice, and he kept saying "what? That was great! I hate Carlton, and love to see them lose". Had to laugh. Good stuff. It's what it's all about.

Can't help to admire the Blues and the way they go about it. They were really stiff that they had to travel this year given the amount of games they won but they put up a very honourable performence.

Nah, they weren't stiff. They finished 5th - won an easy first final as expected and quite rightly had to travel in week 2 to play the side who had earnt the home final. They then lost and finished 5th overall - an accurate reflection of their season.

They did play admirably last night though and are a dangerous team who would have been capable of giving the remaining teams a scare.

Some key injureies yep, rub of the green against us a little yep. The Eagles deserve the rub they won enough games to get the home game with a big crowd. We win enough games we play at the G and we win simple. Too good eagles.

props to Ratten/Carlton MC as they have worked out the press. It has got to the point is nearly suicidal to push up too far against them, as if they win a contested situation their forward line just craves the space.

By round 1 next year, teams will try the Hawthorn/St kilda mould of getting players back to limit space, instead of pushing up too far which is in vogue right now across the comp. Thats a compliment to the coaching department.

It is much easier to do on the smaller dome granted, but on the bigger grounds they simply punish and spread extremely well - better than anyone in fact. If you havnt got an extremely tight press, you are in trouble.

Agree with this. That was, what, like the second game Gibbs has ever missed through injury?? Can't expect their midfield to always get a charmed run with injury.

The umps, can't believe Blues fans are moaning!! The amount of rubbish frees Carlton got earlier was ridiculous.

Respect for the Blues for playing one whole game more than Essendon and getting a lower draft pick ;)

Ripper of a finish, great to see close games in finals.
It seemed WCE were a bit off, certainly for Subi standards anyway. This might give them some confidence going into Geelong clash I suppose, the fact that they know they can shift a gear here.
Still, great effort from Carlton and 2012 will be very interesting for them...

First qtr was close to our worst for the season. When you give a team such a headstart it was always going to be close. Need to fix our first quarters for next week

I thought Davies held LeCras pretty well. Replace Armfield with Gibbs for mine. Would have won it.

Dont like to point fingers, but seriously that goal Davies gave away in the goal square straight after a goal... those sort of things lose games. And in a game that is decided by 3 points it was absolutly unforgivable. It was undeciplined and just a stupid act to be honest.

I know everyone is going to say "but 100's of different acts during a game decide the result"... yes I realise this. We can sit back for as long as we want going.. but if player X or player Y had of kicked that goal instead of that point. Or what if this happened or that happened... these things are all during play. But giving a team an extra goal, when the ball is already 40 rows back behind the goals? Its just adding an extra 6 points to the board and for me is just unforgivable.
