Absolutely one of the best FF in his time. He goes into that Category with Hawkins and Riewoldt, and just a rung below the greatest ever in Franklin. WC the absolute winner of that trade with Carlton. His value to WC was worth more than Judd to Carlton.

Where does he rank in terms of Eagles greats?

Has probably overtaken Sumich in terms of best ever key position forward, and also probably ahead of Phil Matera in terms of best ever forward. Definitely in our all time 22 as KPF without question.

In the pantheon, a whole host of 90s dual premiership legends such as Worsfold, Peter Matera, Jakovich etc may still be ahead. Probably also in the rung next to or slightly below Ben Cousins and Dean Cox. Will compare favourably to Judd if only because he was with us for much longer.

Definitely up there with them
Yeh if you look at the CVs of each player, Franklin's sits above them, and then Kennedy, Hawkins and Riewoldt have a pretty similar feel over a long sample size, but Buddy is no doubt a rung above.

Sumich was my absolute favourite player as a kid and I actually stopped watching the Eagles for a while when he was dropped. JK is now my favourite ever and definitely above Suma.

Just Below Urch youd reckon

No Worsfold? Have to have Worsfold in for Judd. Surely?

Worsfold was a great leader and captain, in terms of skills though he doesn't have the say resume as the others

For perspective… one of only 26 players to kick 700+ goals, four of which are still active (Kennedy, Buddy, Riewoldt, Hawkins). Jeremy Cameron is probably the only other current player who will reach this mark (520 goals, 29 yo).

Bloody great career JK.

Kennedy has been a player (i'd have thought) that most opposition supporters have enjoyed watching. I thought he was particularly important in their 2018 premiership win, kicking some goals to get them back in it after they conceded to first 5.

A great player and I think clearly the best full forward West Coast have had in their history.

Top 10 at the very least, nudging top 5

Peter Matera
Dean Cox
Chris Judd
Ben Cousins
The clear top 4 for mine

Would be in contention for that 5th spot with Jakovich and probably others I'm forgetting

Not sure he’s above any of those guys but Glass is the name I always reckon gets overlooked in Eagles lists, as Cox does in AFL lists

Great player, better than Hawkins by a mile and just behind Jack imo. Kennedy by far was the most accurate kick of the 3, such a weapon in his prime.

Yeah he’s WAYYYY more accurate

715.391
716.403

Kennedy’s way higher accuracy is 64.6 per cent, Hawkins’ is 64 per cent.

By far.

Fortunate to play a few games with him at lower levels. A class act then and still a class act now and my god was he a tough bastard, just fearless.

I’ll miss watching him play. All the best, JK.

I like that he had that toughness without a hint of any visible arrogance or swagger. Not that I have anything against players with those things but even the way he would celebrate after a goal it was almost like he was sheepish about it but he certainly didn’t PLAY that way

Kennedy, Hawkins and Jack Riewoldt debate is always fun.

Reminds me of the Johnathon Brown, Matthew Pavlich and Nick Riewoldt debate.

Just appreciate them for what they are you pillocks.

That’s more or less what most of us are doing. Obvious that Franklin is the best forward of his generation and the other three by almost any measure are pretty much equal.

(Ps: Pav/Riewoldt >>> Brown :)

There's been multiple great midfielders over the journey but very few great key-position forwards (like finding a needle in the proverbial haystack) but with Josh Kennedy, The Eagles certainly found one, with Josh going-on and being one of the all-time greats. Going back all that time ago when The Eagles reluctantly finalised the Judd deal with the Carlton FC, they never in their wildest dreams (or anybody else's) could have imagined of trading into the club one of the modern-day great full forwards, a 'champion player' in every sense...... happy days ahead Josh on a well earned retirement.
