Autopsy Review 2022 R4, v. Melbourne (The most sackable game in AFL history?)

He's been absolutely awful. Can't win a one on one contest. Goes to ground every time. Has no intent on trying to win one. He's become as big a fraud as Ken is and that is scary.

Connor Rozee is symptomatic of our over rated list. At the end of 2021 our Football Department thought our list was a lot stronger than it really is. We traded out our third ruck option, bought in a player who cannot make the side and we have several players including Connor Rozee who show great promise but do not make the move from promising young players to consistent AFL match winners. Rozee, Marshall, Powell-Pepper, Georgiades, Duursma and to a lesser extent Zak Butters are not stepping up. We need these guys to take over from Gray, Boak, Dixon etc. but it doesn't look like it will happen anytime soon.

Gee and Sam Mayes and McEntee prob never should pull on a senior guernsey. McEntee pressure good skills very sub par

Probably didn’t hear it over all those halfwits clapping the players off like some kind of conquering Romans. I felt sick watching that. Some of those cheer squad people live in wonderland.
Yeah, the coaches were off the ground well before the players - I assume Hinkley had money riding on some sort of animal cruelty event and left his pocket radio in the changeroom before the game.

Coaches didn’t receive much of a reception, about 20 people golf-clapping them off. Didn’t notice anyone providing 'constructive feedback' other than me and my brother.

Couldn't agree more. I was just thinking how Georgiades hasn't come on. I've always thought he needs to get to more contests, but his aerial ability and straight kicking have always been good. Now that's left him too. So now we seem to be left with another Marshall, after promising so much.

Our second young, mobile, improving ruckman who averaged 14 touches 14 hit outs and nearly a goal a game… the most insane move we have made. Yes, he is a second ruck option but anyone who says he wasn’t good in that role is just swallowing ken and the clubs guff…

Imagine going into that game and thinking.. yep a cooked lycett alone v Gawn and Jackson with the occasional help from Todd Marshall would be sufficient.

It’s probably for the best that hayes didn’t play. Would have been destroyed

I got into some verbal argy bargy with a bloke tonight after the first quarter where I not so quietly mentioned that it was another Hinkley special 0 goal quarter...

"One of those negative supporters"
"If you haven't coached shut up"

I just don't get it. What do they need to see before they realise something is wrong. A 0 goal quarter wasn't enough. A 0 goal half wasn't enough

Do they want a 0 goal game?

What is it going to take? Seriously.

I wish they would’ve said that to me. I would’ve responded with

I have coached, and coached to 2 GF, for 1 win (out of 4 years)
I have played in a game where we didn’t score a goal, 1/276 senior games, and we were, rightly, ridiculed within the club. It was the last game of the year and the coach resigned.

Imagine going into the game thinking bombing it long to Sam Mayes in the square, against May and Lever, with Gawn floating back, is going to work.

This shit sandwich is squarely on Koch
Absolutely on the money, as incompetent as Hinkley obviously is the complete shit show the club has become was created by the biggest clown to ever set foot in the board room.
His complete lack of football nous was epitomised by his ridiculously unfounded 10 year coach BS.

Kokhead is a pariah who has to fall on his sword regardless of when or how Hinkley is removed!

Considering that Melbourne have half a dozen players 195cm or taller I would have given Hayes a crack at it. Looks like we may have to do it this week anyway. Unless of course if Lycett is unavailable and Ken decides to use Marshall in ruck and bring in Finlayson. It should not happen but anything is possible with Ken.

At one ruck contest I saw Max Gawn push Todd Marshall in the chest with two hands. Todd went reeling backward and Gawn tapped the ball down unopposed. It highlighted the difference between 108kg 208cm Max Gawn and 90kg 199cm Todd Marshall. I wonder if anyone else saw that non contest?

You just wish we had a coach who would change things around instead of the usual predictable rut. Ok, we ain't got the power talls and Melbourne have, I remember back in 2017 I think against the Eagles, maybe 2016? Somebody got the bright idea of kicking it low into our forward line to take their marking game out of the picture. It was the kind of adaptive game plan to suit the playing groups restrictions, it's not hard to use a bit of thought and shake things up. Try Marshall in the bank flank and move Jones up forward, move things around to shake up their defenders...don't just resign your thinking to 'Ah well, she'll be right once we start to get some of our outs back in to straighten things up' You can't play with what you want, play with what you got...be ruthless. If players aren't switched on switch them off, test our depth...give us something for ****s sake. I've...we've been seeing the same old forward shit show for near on a decade, a defenders delight is the only way to describe it. ****ed if I know, I feel like putting my hand on a hot stove to get rid of the pain of seeing last night

It’s hilarious that we put MAYES to replace DIXON and keep the game plan intact.

Even the best game plan ever needs the right personnel to execute it. If you don’t have it, you need to make a plan that suits the players at your disposal.
You don't even need to be a good coach to say:
'kick it in low instead of bombing for this game guys'.

It was a dishonest performance, playing keepings off and trying to control the ball with slow sideways kicks in defence.

It was purposely orchestrated to keep the margin close, and for the coaches to pat themselves on the back with a 5 goal loss to Melbourne.

A few late goals when the Demons put the cue in the rack means nothing.

It was a pathetic performance, a team that is disconnected, poorly skilled with a dysfunctional forward line.
100% we played to keep the margin down. It was pathetic!!

Dixon
Aliir
Gray
Fantasia
Duursma
McKenzie

and after halftime

Wines

That's about a third of your best 22.

Then you replace them with:

McEntee
Mayes
Mead
Motlop
Dumont

Jones
Clurey

The guys in bold shouldn't be anywhere near the best 22 of a top four team - remember that Motlop was the medical sub for the game against Brisbane. Jones should be cut the same sort of slack that Bergman was last year. With Dumont, Clurey and Bergman having played this round, we are now down to the following untested 'depth' (after Sinn, Finlayson and Frederick have already played):

Farrell
Hayes
Lord
Visentini
Schofield
Pasini
Jackson
Burgoyne

Could have been worse. I liked the look of Clurey on his first game back. Ditto Bergman. At least we started to spread the ball laterally in the second half and open up angles. We just never do it at the right tempo - it's either too slow and defenders get back into position, or there's a rush of blood and we miss targets.

One step close to Lemmey.

We should really stop talking about Dixon, Gray & Fantasia they are two over 30's & a bloke that gets injured making toast.
Yep. Dixon and Gray are most likely finished so we need to move on. Fanta is a part-time player at best.

I did go down that line but since I didn't coach my team to a Premiership my opinion was invalid.

One of those people that you couldn't convince the sky was blue because you're not a meteorologist.
