Disappointing scoreline, but that is to be expected in a rebuild. A lot of positives can still be taken from the game, with all of our players of the future, under the tutelage of Roo & Lenny performing well. We the supporters can be (with good reason ) a little harsh at times, but in about 4 years time we can sit back & reap our rewards as this group of ... pre schoolers graduate into senior class .. :)

Delaney injury happened right in front of me and jeez i have some admiration for the guy in that play straight after

was absolutely on his haunches but you could see it, as soon as the play came back to him he wasn't going to let anyone get through him and got the HTB free for his troubles as well

I think we have found one here boys

Murdoch2Sippos2Milera perfection!

Shenton is very very good and I think with Webster, Wright and Shenton we aren't lacking in the attacking backmen department

Murdochs job on Elliot when up forward shouldn't go unnoticed either, leading goal kicker for the pies and having a really consistent season but that hip and shoulder to knock Elliot off the ball one on one in the backline had the feel of webster v watson a few rounds back.

All the more impressive is that he did it without playing a lot of footy down back in the VFL. Love the flexibility he gives us

I feel as though Sippos played that lead up forward role really well tonight, and its why others seem to think he had a really good game, but no tackles is something that he nor the club should be happy with

I know percieved pressure is hard to quantify with near tackles etc. but he just needs to do more

Collingwood worked back hard to help out and with Young roaming around doing as he pleased we really missed Saunders and Templeton terrorising the opposition

Ok...

I am not going to do a full video review.

I can start to see where our game plan is going. I thought our field kicking was ok. we just need to set up our entries a bit better. But we now have some players who can kick.

If these guys can get some consistency, then we potentially have a team that can go coast to coast in about 3 kicks. ideal for clearing zones and presses.

Shenton has grabbed his opportunity and I love how he plays. Just shows that you can have a long apprenticeship and still make it.

There is no doubt that we have some decent kids, but I am not convinced that some are good enough to take us all the way.

As McAveny said: we are a bottom 6 side with 6 of our better players injured.

I know people are impatient with Stanley and a few others, but we have to wait and see if they can improve gradually or not.

Still a lot players to be turned over and we will need some real star power added over the next 2 years.

Many more reality checks to come this year, so batten down the hatches.

There is light at the end of a long tunnel.

CAM SHENTON... That is all..

Well actually no its not, its great to see him performing on big stage after tearing up VFL off half back in last 18 months. Finally we have a coach that plays him in right positon at top level. If he stays there he is going to have a successful AFL career and prove alot of people wrong. I'll be first to admit I was very critical of him in his first year at club

CAMERON SHENTON

VFL Senior Games: 17
VFL Senior Goals: 7
VFL Senior Averages: 11.35 disposals, 2.65 marks and 1.88 tackles

2012 Player Rating: 4/10 (Its only 4 due to first half season)

Cameron Shenton came to the Saints via the 2011 Rookie Draft after an outstanding 2011 season in SANFL where he kicked 43 goals in 17 games.

Despite playing just 2 games for StKilda in the NAB Cup, it was probably a first half of the season to forget for Shenton. He was unable to find the goals as easily as previous years, mainly due to not being able to finish off. He had plenty of shots on goals but often missed and sprayed them. He kicked 7 goals for the season and wasn’t having any impact around the ground. If we were doing this review half way through the season I think it would be fair to assume we wouldn’t have been surprised to see him delisted at years end. When he was played up forward he only averaged 9.2 disposals, 2.6 marks and 2.3 tackles.

During the second half of the season, the coaches decided to try him in new position. Running out of defence where he could utilize his pace and run & carry seemed to help Cameron find his feet. He was also used as stopper on small forwards. In the last 7 games, he increased his averages to 14.42 disposals, 2.71 marks and 1.28 tackles. He was named in best in 3 of those 7 games.

Shenton has done enough to show he can make it and has earnt another year on our rookie list. He was one of our best performed players in VFL in last 2 months of season and hopefully he can build on his late season form during preseason and early 2013 and really push for senior promotion.

But I've said for while that half back is his best positon if he's ever going make it. Even last year we continued to play him out of positon which was frustrating. But he's learnt and got there the hard way and is now taking the most of his opportunities.

I was happy enough with that game until the 3rd Quarter. We were putting pressure on, we were kicking goals, the heads seemed to be in the right places, we just lacked that bit of consistent Class and experience across the field.

If we could put in four quarter efforts like the first 3, I wouldn't care if we lost every remaining game this season.

How good was the Murdoch to Siposs to Milera? THAT'S the sort of kicking we need to bring in going forward. Not so good was the pasting Riewoldt gave Siposs for picking another option but that's part n parcel these days.

Is it just me or are our best kicks coming mostly from youngsters? Murdoch, Billings pretty much never wastes a ball, Webster, Newnes (who wasn't great last night by foot but eventually will be), great signs. Only thing is they're coming from flankers, need to get some of that ability in the midfield.

Shenton doing his best for an upgrade.

Everything else...meh. It's all part of a long, long rebuild.

i thought rooey actually gave sippos the thumbs up after that pass, but i could be mistaken

Jack Steven is half the player he was last year, I don't know if it's injury, fitness or just bad form but he's not getting enough of the footy. Schneider was really poor and has had an inconsistent season. I thought Ross worked really hard and found enough of the footy but again his kicking and decision making was a bit off. Stanley was poor.

I was wrapped with Newnes again, he is even surprising me how fast he is coming along. Murdoch's first half was terrific. Milerra has been really good since coming into the side, and good on him, I had my doubts about him but he seems to be working his arse off. Shenton was fantastic and will be the first one elevated next year IMO.

Alright I didn't get to the game only finished watching it. I must have seen the game completely differently to everyone else but bar the the one play in the 3 quarter I honestly thought he played an ok game. We just Need to re bear he has only plaid 49 games. Just got to be patient it will happan

Haven't had a chance to watch the game yet, but I think Seb Ross needs a couple of games to acclimatise his decisionmaking and kicking to the pace of AFL footy. I think he just hasn't had the opportunity to adjust to that, given as a time-and-space type of midfielder as his main strength, rather than speed, he needs more exposure to allow for that adjustment, so give him a couple of more games I say, the next 3-4 games and reassess him then.

Wasn't pretty at times but really what can we expect.
The Hawks are a great side but even they have been severely weakened the last few weeks from losing a lot of their regular players.
We are a team in a transitional stage so it hurts us even more not to have our best 22 out there.
That's not an excuse for playing crap , its just a cold hard fact.
Biggest positive for me was the Panther, I might just end up with a man crush on Shenton. Took the game on and got plenty of it:)
Negative was the Schneiderman . He has been a very good player for a long time but the next few weeks will tell us if Father time has caught up with him or he is just in a form rut.
Still no need to panic . Stay Strong Saints Fans:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

watching on TV... I saw thew filth cheer squad all in white and when a goal was kicked at the other end, the seats were empty.

If os, what a disgrace.

I have heavy commitments this year, but geez something has to be done badly in this area next year. These people are supposed to be our heart and soul supporters.

Delaney's tackle was the highlight of the night. He spanked Cloke who got a bag of cheapies at the end and started strutting around like it meant something. Delaney man crush.

Our youngsters were a mixed bag as others have noticed. Billings was disappointing, as was Ross but I'd give them both another week. Dunstan is something special - his skills under pressure are really nice.

Best game from Sippa in a long while and yet for the first time I found myself thinking that he's not going to make it. I've always been a big fan of his, but I just think he might be a bit too slow for someone playing third tall. Hope I'm wrong, like I may have been about Shenton. Great game from him. His calm under (extreme) pressure was fantastic.

Terry. Nice one.

Rhys. Didn't think his game was too bad myself. Six marks playing in a starved forward line was OK. Sippa had one more mark and Roo two more (Roo kicked three of course).

I refuse to judge Rhys on last night. He had to play back for a while (and isn't it nice that the umpires decided that Cloke can choke a player in the contest, and GET a free, rather than be giving one away...?  ). He wasn't playing HIS game last night, he was doing whatever the team needed him to do in a night where our structures were shot by an integral structure player getting injured.

As much as I hate the Herald Scum they had a great pic of Stanley holding Clokes jumper and Clokes hand squeezing Stanleys throat. That's gotta be play on every day of the week as BOTH players are in the wrong at the same time. But surprise surprise its a free kick and goal for Cloke
