His value would be high but being a losing coach that can't make finals, denigrates your value. Look at Clarkson and Lyon atm - their value has diminished somewhat because they are coaching non-dominate teams. I haven't heard the whole 'Master Coach' or 'Ross the Boss' bs from the media for quite some time now.

Dew would have had his job if he had of been dominate this year. He had similar pressure on him as Hinkley (but Hinkley has made it next to impossible for him to be sacked now this season). It's Drew's coaching record that has caused him to come into the season under a massive cloud but with the tantalizing prospect of Dimma looming in the background, he had no chance. Dimma's availability was just too tempting to not reach for.
What do you mean the whole footy industry fawned over and pumped up Clarko at every opportunity after he was sacked right up until he was appointed at Norf? And Dimma wouldn't have been sacked no matter where we finished up this year had he stayed on.

The difference in reputation between jumping ship mid-way through the season when we were 14th on the ladder or finishing up the season around the same mark and then leaving is much of a muchness IMO. If he had have hung around and failed miserably next year again then it might be a slightly different story.

I can't believe Gold Coast even mentioned in their presser that they didn't listen to the media or anyone else....why even mention it?
Didn’t the playing group come out and say they loved him after Caro threw the arrows?

I've always been a believer that it's the support staff around you that determines how sucessfull you are as a coach.
Just remember, Dimma will not have individuals such as Justin Leppitsch, Craig McRae & Adam Kingsley working alongside him this time if he gets the Gold Coast gig.

King Miller Shaw are highly regarded. Not to mention who else he can bring in

It'd be good and bad news if Dimma went to the Suns.

Good news - one less team competing with us in the market for the best available coach. Suns probably the least detestable and least threatening option insofar as other clubs are concerned.

Bad news - potential of Dimma to lure one or more of our assistant coaches north.

Don’t start this up again

A little off topic here but is anyone else annoyed that hardwick will probably be coaching next year (With GC most likely) I mean, if you were just going to take a short break then why go to another club? why not take some leave a recoup? was there maybe an issue with the playing group or staff that hasn't been mentioned, all this talk of loving the club and the playing group to just go to another club less than a year later doesn't sit well with me and I feel a little betrayed.
It doesn't take away the success Dimma bought to us. I will forever be grateful for that.

However, if we take off our Richmond hats and our Richmond rose coloured glasses and ask the general question: What sort of man can walk away from his wife and family? And, walk away from the organisation that made him as well? I'm tipping the answer is not a very favourable one.

He can go wherever he wants. To me he now joins Wallace, Frawley, Gieschen, Walls, Northey, Jeans, Bartlett, Jewell, Sproule, Patterson, Bourke, B Richardson, and Hafey as former coaches of the RFC in my time. Some real gems of Richmond men amongst those names.

Long live our next coach - I hope I can say McQualter.

What makes you think RFC made him??

It might have helped shape him, or fine tune but made him is a big call I would have thought

He made his name as a coach there. If the RFC wasn't the entity it is and stood by him in 2016 and support him with new assistants and programs behind the scenes which have been well documented; it would be a case of Who T F was Dimma?

He will take Mini with him

13 years at punt road. Recruited well in the off season but team underperforms. He said his message just wasn't getting through.

You want to reflect on Hardwick's marriage break up fine. I could give a f+k. How many marriages break up? 50%. I reflect on 3 flags in his era. 37 year drought broken. The club transformed out of basket case level.
Amazing effort by everyone involved. Board, coaches players fans. Hardwick's success exceeds the coaching efforts of most of these guys. Bar Hafey. Northey was a great player, good coach but f++d us up with his resignation. We f++d Jewell cos we thought Bourke was going to be a messiah.

anyhow, the way the soft cap is going Hardwick was taking a huge chunk of that. Never seen a Richmond coach actually step down. Die on his sword.
Resigning rather than being sacked means Hardwick has freed up our soft cap. Pretty noble act I my book

Good luck up the gold coast. Going to need it.

I agree that Mini looks the goods

Still think if mini can successfully navigate his way through a pretty challenging road ahead the jobs his , Benny made mention early on of our culture , it’s been by a very successful one , I’d imagine we will work to preserve that , that’ll be advantageous to mini should he continue ticking the boxes

no disrespect to Hardwick but imo hes cooked,i hope they do appoint him,one things for sure GC will be a destination club now for the next 2 years
purely based on him coaching them

hmmm.just goes to show theres been a hellavu lot goin on here behind the curtains in regards to our Dimma

question: did he dimma,at anytime 'this season' deliberately or accidentally sabotage or compromise his responsibility to the RFC if hes appointed Suns coach?
Yes one weekend when everyone was united as one.

Yep I said this after he resigned that he will never get the same support from the top right down to FD that he got from us. He' setup for failure IMHO and I'll have no sympathy for the bloke.

I focus on the 3 flags under his reign as coach. Personally IDGAF what he does in his private life.

But when asking the general question, it's hard not to focus on the type of man who would walk away from a seemingly good marriage and family first and foremost. Then comes the matter of quitting the club that supported and assisted him to achieve his goals because he was burnt out. Only to have him jumping out of his skin indicating he wants to coach again ONLY one month later.

I judge people based on my own values and beliefs. And in this instance my conclusions of the man are not very favourable.

Im not certain. He would need to make finals, minimum.

I'd definitely be interviewing as if everyone is on an even par. Mini's results have got him a seat at the table now, whereas when Dimma first resigned - i don't think he was a very serious option, longterm.

For him to really get into the convo he needs to make the finals for me, mainly because i feel he is replicating what Dimma was already doing too much & I am not positive if he had all his own assistants (ie not all Dimma's old ones), he would be getting these same results. And there is no guarantee these assistants will hang about once the job is his longterm - many might prefer to be coaching under someone with more experience than them then, not less etc.

His results looks too much based on existing things VS anything new he is bringing that is worth investing in longer term. ITs a tricky one. But if he made finals, i would likely agree with offering him a 2 YEAR contract, nothing longer. Mini is not experienced enough to be getting more than 2 years. Has only ever worked at Richmond, only ever under Dimma etc.
