Is Yze a good coach or has he been gifted with a large amount of first round picks in some pretty decent positions?
Don’t really watch Melbourne so not sure what they do or don’t do well?

A straight sets exit two years in a row wouldn’t look fantastic would it. Although the midfield was humming vs collingwood

Too late in the week to announce it now if it is Yze as we wouldn't want it to be a distraction for their game tomorrow night. If he's not named by mid-day Wednesday next week he's not getting it IMO.
If Dees win tomorrow and we don’t hear a peep about our coaching appointment next week, I’d take that as a sign Yze is a lock.

Granted we may not have heard anything yet as the club may still be deliberating - but if we hit prelim weekend without a whisper, that is surely enough time to have made a decision given final interviews were in the bye week.

The only explanation is because the successful candidate is still coaching.

People also seem to forget, when we announce the coach it will be a massive piece of news - he’ll have heaps of media duties in the days that follow and the club will want to make the most of it (commercial exposure) with lots of club exclusives and feature pieces. He’ll also presumably do the rounds on media street too (360, SEN etc).

Impossible to do that when he’s preparing for a prelim or GF.

My guess is the club would rather delay the announcement so they have full access for media duties when the news is fresh.

If they announce now, no one will care in 1-2 weeks time and we won’t get the same exposure.

Look at the fanfare around Dima’s appointment - saturated the news for 2-3 days.

Took the Dees from a bottom 8 defence to the best defence in the comp after 1 preseason after joining from Hawthorn.

Did similar at Hawthorn in 2015 after taking over the backline from Luke Beveridge (after he was appointed by WB in November 2014).

Hawthorn won the flag in 2013 and 2014 but had a mid-table defence. Yze took them to number 1 in 2015 after being promoted from development coach to line coach (looking after the backline).

Melbourne win tomorrow night. Won’t be any announcements next week

Wasn't an issue for GWS last year and I don't recall Kingsley doing a heap or PR stuff for GWS before the finals. Would do more harm than good to delay it for another few weeks potentially, IMO.

It’s a small insular industry.
If Yze has the job it’s respectful to Melbourne to wait until their campaign is over
**** them
Announce it tomorrow night by him rocking up to the game in his Richmond polo and proceeding to leave half way through the game to use up any unused sick leave because it’s the Australian thing to do

so you reckon , that Clarke and Jackson and Blair just pick the players the list needs, and tell Dimma after

Is that right?

You have no idea how a football club actually works

Unless Dimma signed off on said player, no chance he would get through the door at tigerland.

At Richmond it was a discussion amongst the power brokers, but make no mistake, if Dimma did not want them, they were not welcome
As the other poster said, Dimma would tell them what sort of players he wanted but not get into the actual player x versus player y. It’s why he never attended draft night, his philosophy was that was the recruiting teams domain and they were the experts.

these are semantics

the traits required as mandatory where very clear, of course Dimma would not get involved in the nuance of player a vs player b.

As long as player a and b both had the things he wanted, for the position that they where recruited for, the recruiters would do the rest

This theory that he did not get involved in recruitment is a fantasy and not how things actually work.

You literally just said precisely what you’re arguing against him about.
You’re actually going around in circles.

Yeah cos extra media exposure is what it's all about. Who cares about potential FA or targeted players from other clubs knowing who our coach is and what his philosophy is before signing in. And why get the best available assistant coaches in, when can wait another month and take the dregs no other club wants. Hell why delist duds and cloggers like Graham and McIntosh now, when can sit on our hands, why tell clubs screaming out for a ruck that Soldo's available. Best to wait until other clubs have filled voids..... In case you missed it 12 clubs are out. Crap like Maynard and Brayshaw is all the media have to stetch out for 6 days. I'm sure we announce it any day it'll be massive news and every single journo will head to Puint Rd to be there.

Nice over reaction. Maybe just maybe our club has an agreement with Yze that it won’t be announced until his season is done and dusted. We’re not missing out on anyone by delaying the announcement. He would have the assistants he wants lined up. Free agency hasn’t started yet but no doubt we’re talking to managers.
As for KMac and Graham with all the retirements and a couple of fringe delisting I don’t think we have the draft capital to make those changes

GWS appointing a new coach is hardly the same level of interest to news outlets as Richmond appointing Hardwicks successor

You’re kidding yourself if you think all of this stuff grinds to a halt just because we haven’t announced our coach.

If it Yze for arguments sake, how do you know the club/Livingston/Hartley hasn’t already begun speaking to the assistant coaches Yze has earmarked for his team?

Just because it hasn’t been announced, doesn’t mean it isn’t happening in the background.

For a bigfooty board that constantly bags the AFL media we seem to lap it up and drown in its water way to often.

And it was pathetic - he popped up there for a half day, threw on a GWS polo and did a quick press conference and hello to the players (I watched it on their website) and literally had to dash off to the airport to continue preparing for our EF.

No one has any interest in a GWS coaching appointment. This is the first coaching appointment in 13 years at the biggest club in the competition.

Delaying an announcement does nothing to stop people like Livingston to start laying the groundwork for assistant coaching appointments, free agency enquires, list management decision over the next couple of weeks. If it is Yze, a lot of this has probably already been discussed and agreed to with the club and a plan put in place.

I suspect that’s what separated he and newy , his successful involvement in premiership teams , tho newy tracking nicely he hasn’t experienced that yet and it’s pivotal
