Surprised no one has picked up on this and made a thread, it's a tad interesting and I wonder what other peoples thoughts are on it and what they would give up for the kid.

OVER the past several weeks, Greater Western Sydney officials have held meetings with the established clubs in what could be described as the entree to trade talks.

The subject of the discussions - which have been informal - are prized 17-year-olds, such as West Australian youngster Jaegar O'Meara, whom several clubs, including Essendon, Collingwood, Richmond, Gold Coast and the Perth teams, have expressed preliminary interest in acquiring.

There is also the following article about the kid:

From the first time Jaeger O’Meara donned a Perth Football Club colts jumper, Damien McMahon knew he was a future AFL star.

“I have never seen a player look so comfortable in their first game at colts level,” McMahon said.

McMahon, 2010 Perth colts coach, compared the Dongara talent to former Demon Reece Conca who was selected at number six in last year’s draft.

I was also wondering when someone would make this thread.

Any of our draft guys got an info on him?

Another Reece would be nice but I suspect it'll cost us first pick and compensation pick. But I'm pretty sure AFL will want GWS trading for players and not draft picks. Really can't think of anyone we could afford to lose who would be worth a first round pick.

"Fremantle are able to trade a player to the Giants in exchange for the right to select a 17-year-old born between January 1 and April 30 1994."

Is this a concession available to all clubs, or only Fremantle?

Yeah that part had me scratching my head a little, need some more clarification on the situation.

How much value does a Mitch Morton + compensation pick combo have for a fledgling like GWS?

Just wondering...

Definitely an option worth looking at, the facts aren't quite clear at the moment in regards to what each club has to offer to get these 17 year olds.

Any club can trade with GWS but they can only trade 4 underage players. GWS can't keep any of them either, they must trade them or not at all (over 2 years)

Would rather give up Connors or Tuck than Morton

none of those players would come even close... you would need to give up atleast 2 very good players to get a kid like him... maybe nathan foley and daniel jackson and even those 2 players might not be good enough

we are at a bad stage to get these 17 year old players coz all our players are sooo young whats the point in trading them

you might mind a team like st kilda would be able to trade off afew of there good players like montagna & dal santo

you all need to remember these 17 year olds are the best in the country

I posted about this in the "who should see We target" thread days ago. GWS will want first round picks or players of the same value. Hard to see us coming up with an offer better than say what the saints could offer....

Have you seen the kid play Toadvine??

What do you think the saints are willing to offer up?

No haven't seen him play yet, but champs start this week end and there'll be games in Vic he'll play and I'll get a good look.

I've heard he's an inside out mid, great skills while being very good defensively, a tackle machine.

Other players of interest fall under this rule also, Chris Yarran (another one) is a pacey goal kicking mid much like Bennell of the last draft.

I can just see clubs who are now deperate to rebulid with young talent, the Saints, Power and to a lesser exstent Dogs will be prepared to give up much more for players because they have players won't be around for their next tilt.

Saints maybe Fisher or Dal Santo? It's hard to predict, but I think we'll really struggle offering up guys like Morton, Tuck and Thursty.

Who knows but I find it all really interesting...

Toady do you know if we can use Draft Picks to swap with GWS for the 17 year olds they have to trade.

Morton, Thursfield and one other (maybe connors or a Gourdis) to get the job done. Why not throw a tonne of senior players for one gun youth pick. Hard delistings to come in next year or two so why not secure a gun kid for three possible delistings (Conners I would prefer to keep, but if need be bundle him off).

As for the saints No.1 part of any trade would be Kossie + another player(like Farren Ray).

We could really use a player like O'Meara or Yarran if those descriptions are correct. Would cap off our midfield nicely.

Foley, Montagna, Del Santo?

You must be kidding. They are proven elite AFL midfielders.

You need to remember that the kids may turn out to be duds.

Masten, JON, C. Morton - All top 10 highly rated kids. None of them worth anything near Foley, Montagna and Del Santo.
Then there's Tambling, Thorpe, I could go on.

If the kids is guaranteed of being that good then GWS will get him or even GC with their massive stockpile of picks.

He is rated alongside Coniglio (likely number 1 pick this year) as being the best WA talent.

If he could be drafted this year would probably be top 5, even as an underager.

Already as a 16 year old has tested excellently with a 2.8 second 20m and 14.3 beep test.

Has been compared to Conca but has quite a bit more pace and aggression.

Very complete (fantastic duel sided skills, great overhead etc) and poised package like Conca but with that added edge and x factor.

Would gladly see WC give up our first two picks for him but players are required to gain access to the mini draft (supposedly).
