BATTERED Richmond hero Matthew Richardson has little chance of playing against the Brisbane Lions at the MCG on Saturday.
The 34-year-old star forward, who kicked his 800th career goal on Sunday, went into the Sydney clash under a cloud because of a buttock strain but emerged with an unrelated hamstring strain.
Richmond club doctor Greg Hickey said yesterday Richardson had an old problem that had flared. Medical staff have been managing tendinitis in Richardson's hamstring since the start of this season.
"Early in the first quarter against the Swans, Matthew aggravated a long-term niggle in his hamstring origin tendon," Dr Hickey said.
"He will have some scans over the coming week. We will try to settle the pain and he will need to do some strengthening work."
Richardson yesterday told Vega radio he was unlikely to play against Brisbane after pulling up sore.
"It's pretty sore. It's not getting much better, so we will have to see what happens this week, but it might need a week off," Richardson said.
Nathan Brown has overcome a groin injury and is available for selection, while Kane Johnson (knee) is still a month away.
Ben Cousins, Trent Cotchin and Kayne Pettifer all got through their game without a problem for Coburg in the VFL on Saturday.

Looks like Sarge will get his chance.
