Telling moment.
He'll face more pressure than that in the finals.

Re: Captains who choke after the siren

oh year jack reiwoldt
i remember that he didn't even make the distance
and lay off pav huys just a warning;)

Like last years finals where he tore your boys a new one.....

St Kilda's hopes of becoming the first team to go through an AFL home and away season unbeaten in 80 years is over after captain Nick Riewoldt missed a set shot ;)

Re: Captains who choke after the siren

What a ridiculous thread.

Someone misses a crucial goal and they are a choker.

Michael Jordan also missed a lot of shots to win the game for the Bulls during his career. Most overlook this as we only remember the one's that went in. If you add them all up his final game winning shot percentage would of been close to his overall field goal percentage.

The same goes for these crucial shots at goal. Pav got crucified because he missed twice in a matter of weeks. He has got Freo over the line on so many other occasions and kicked so many clutch goals its not funny. The same goes for Roo, Kernahan, Lloyd etc.

Unless there is clear evidence that their conversion rate from shots after the siren/clutch situations is worse than their overall career conversion rate, its a non-issue.
kukoc was the clutch man...
riewoldt shanks it far too often, how often was jordan at the free throw line after the siren? it's not at all the same thing there wasnt seconds left to get it on the boot it was all him and he choked at what hes paid to do.
Kosi's brilliant hand pass didn't help them either.

Re: Captains who choke after the siren

Remove Bock, the siren hadn't sounded when he took the kick, it went 10 seconds or so after he took it

I seem to remember the siren going before he kicked it...

Ive wiped most of it from my memory though. Back to back interstate trips, for the 07 elimination final, and that game.:(

This.

There are a lot of Cats and Pies fans getting stuck in and declaring the Saints both as chokers and cooked for the season.....

What short memories you have.

Speak for yourself. 2007 Semi final anyone?

Riewolt simply cant work under pressure.
if you can remember back to 2004 the PF agaisnt port in the last quarter when things were tight when ever he got the ball he contiually passed off.. :thumbsu: could well have just cost us a finals spot not that we deserve it or anything

Not saying that he could be mentioned in the same breath as Carey, but this is a fundmental reason as to why Carey is considered by many as the best player of this generation, whereas Riewoldt will most likely be remembered as one of the best half dozen of his era.

Brereton made a comment on SEN just before he took the shot that he'd seen Riewoldt have six practice shots from the same place on the ground before the game, and never got close.
