I had no opinion when we drafted him because his SANFL highlights didnt give me much of an impression one way or another.

As soon as I got a good look at him though, I felt at ease with the selection. He's so clean with the ball for a big man. Im so used to guys his size being gumby as hell. Can clunk contested marks, uses his size well and has a great work ethic. Looks like a worthwhile pick 2.

Richo is a really good comp actually, seems TT will play mostly up forward but I’m not opposed to seeing him up on the wing on occasion. I know Knightmare (the ESPN draft expert) is really big on playing large wingers and has made a couple of posts about the subject. It’s quite an interesting read.
This guy re-rated the draft after about 2 games. I don't know why so much stock is taken in what he says.

Bickley has just been tempering expectations, no one knew he would explode in debut, I think they have handled him really well this year given his immediate success.

At the same time:

Scorpus as usual on the money

Bickley was just looking at his stats.

Never saw him play, especially live.

It was obvious to me seeing him live last week he needed to play AFL ASAP.

Live you saw the unrewarded repeat efforts, the great positioning and the two way running after a turnover (many of them against the Eagles) to maintain a defensive position. And then the quick mindedness to get into an offensive position.

Now just has to bring that to AFL.

Always known for his elite endurance and work rate which made me think he would end up like Nick Riewoldt who played forward and on the wing toward the end of his career but did some excellent in tight handball which I didn't knew he had and was as elite as Walker.

Now that's a debut!

Obviously five goals is a huge highlight, but for me the thing I liked the most was the fact that he didn't drop his head after mucking up his first couple of touches. It would be so easy for a debutant to think "oh shit, it's not working for me today!" and go into their shell, but he just kept at it and got the reward. Already looks like a mature player, reads the ball beautifully in flight, and has some very nice skills.

Is already our fourth-leading goalscorer for the year after only one match, haha.

It's a fair point you raise.

Knightmare is not a bad draft pundit by any means, and he watches A LOT of footy..... In Victoria.

It’s a shame RT has played in a match where another forward opposition had also kicked 5 goals and the match was marred with some controversy..

As a first gamer, I don’t think we could ask anymore of him. Kicking 5 goals was one thing, but most of them from close checking from his opponent or huge pack marks. Also accurate kicking for a tall guy. In other words, the quality of the goals were top notch!

The other thing I’m impressed with is his tank and ability to find the ball - 16 disposals. He’s got a genuine all round game where he could be an A grader wherever he plays a la Goodes.

I always thought one of the best and least discussed attributes about Riley was the fact that he was so built up in terms of muscle mass compared to most 18 year old 200cm players.

The moment he came on HD screens it was clear that this kid visually looked more like a 100 game player then a debutant, and by the end of the first half he was playing like one.

Its scary to think what he will look like with 4 preseasons under his belt

Yup. In the first quarter the radio call was blasting Riley for being -4 in Supercoach due to a couple of misplaced short kicks and quite happy to sink the boot in over how we'd stuffed up by picking the local kid in the draft compared to McDonald.

They weren't saying that after the second quarter.

The kid has got something special, the average player could have dropped their bundle after the first couple of kicks including a turnover that lead directly to a goal.
Good on him!

Without having the time or inclination to check myself, how many other 200+cm first year players cover this kind territory?

Great first game for the big lump!!

While he didn't get BOGs in the SANFL, that's not what is important. Just imagine what he would have been doing as a forward in the U18s for those two years he was playing SANFL. He would have kicked bags of 10 every second week.
Talls develop slower. Add that all together and you see why what he was doing at SANFL level was quite impressive actually.

On top of that, imagine if he was in Woodville, Sturt or Souths zone. He might have been kicking bags most weeks in the SANFL.

Amazing

Most KPF co.e out of the draft needing 2-3 years to build muscle to be able to compete at AFL level

RT already has an imposing build that will worry experienced KPD
