But not really a forward, so hardly a choice.

Luke Jackson a better example, as can play both positions. Jackson projects as a better ruck than forward so will likely play more ruck than forward long term. But if he shows something as a key forward, particularly compared to other choices, will play more minutes there.

Thrilthorpe's upgrade on ROB (or whoever replaces him) probably isn't as big as his upgrade on Himmelberg (or whoever replaces him), so I would expect TT to play more forward than ruck. But that can change depending on which rucks and forwards we bring in.

Right now, I think he projects as a better roaming CHF than ruck or FF.
It will be interesting if we end up being in the hitting zone with our 2nd rounder for one of the promising young KPF's in Keeler, Lemmey or Verral or maybe another. If so and they are seen to have genuine A grade KPF potential, does that mean Thilthorpe has the luxury of becoming a Dean Cox type player for us over the coming seasons?

I agree 100% that the long-term plan for Thilthorpe should be to play primarily as a forward.

The key word in what you said was "confidence". Thilthorpe strikes me as a real confidence player, who can drop his head when things aren't going his way. He'll want to work on that as his career progresses, but for now, if he's struggling up forward then sticking him in the ruck and letting him get his hands on the ball is useful.

Yes, I'm big on having circuit breakers for young players if they're struggling to get the confidence up, and I believe this can be done in the AFL team rather than our club's preferred circuit breaker of months of SANFL banishment.

But it shouldn't distract from the main mission, which is development at the position of most value.

Gives us the luxury of going for the player with the best upside. As does having holes in pretty much every part of our list bar running defender.

But yes, if we get an A grade forward then TT's upgrade in that area of the ground goes down v the upgrade in ruck staying steady.

(But if Grundy comes over, ruck time goes right down!)

Funny. I think TT is cleaner when the ball is on the ground. Will end up a better player - big call I know.
Thilthorpe is more mobile and quicker than Lynch .....the improvement in his hand strength in the 2nd half of this year is noticeable .....he was fumbling the same marks last year

Our forward line was Fog, Himmelberg, Gollant, Murphy, Rachelle and... Rowe?

That was Pre-Fog too, will be a very contrasting Post-Fog for the Power to experience.

He will need to command their best or 2nd best defender.

Lots of 'almost' stuff from Thilthorpe. Has had a habit all season of taking high risk/high reward options with ball in hand and not quite pulling it off, which means he makes quite a few costly mistakes. Has the highest ratio of clangers to possessions at the club and I think is second to Walker for turnovers per disposal, who is another player who takes a lot of high risk options. His skills when collecting the ball are so good though, as soon as he tidies up the final product it feels like he's going to tear a game apart.

Ok Frogmister
I have not questioned him below his knees, and i’ll say it again, I’m not bagging the guy and have never said he won’t make it, he has talent,
in his highlight package he takes 2 contested marks✔️
another snap from Ted,standard mark(just)my 86 year old mother could take.
Dawson drills him on the chest drops mmmm,
3 other contested marks I was disappointed he should have taken, had first hands on the ball
You could also put a package of two minutes together of the whipping boys in the same game
ROB
Jones
Smith
etc
its the almost stuff that is frustrating, but seems to escape criticism, and I’m not saying we shouldn’t be playing him, we should
Go TT

Liking these clips.

One thing I have noticed is Montagna is a good caller of the game.

Like Bennett he actually calls the game, rather than trying to inject his own personality.

Also a few aggressive kicks that effective and some didn't, the leg kick on the boundary just missed the target and the 2 minutes package of ROB, Jones or Smith won't be as impressive though.
