He's struggling a bit, but we saw before his injury he's far too good to be stuck in the 2s.

This year's about getting games into him and miles into his legs.
We need to throw him into different roles if he is quiet up forward.

Could easily spend more time in ruck... or throw him to CHB for a while on Casboult... or on a wing.

Coaches should mix it up where a player is having a quiet game.

Except that ROB is a one position wonder (sometimes)

Anyone else slightly concerned about RT? His aggression at the contest is lacking, needs to throw his weight around more.

His ability to cleanly take the ball below his knees and his balance makes him a scary prospect if he can put it all together, we saw in his early games.
Very worried, would like to see him loose behind the ball not Dawson, see if he can read the footy.
Not so sure about his ruck work doesn’t crunch at the footy and lacks body strength as he does in marking contests, must admit hasn’t convinced me yet given how people pump him up, looks timid

I don't see him as a Key Forward, but as a Ruckman who will kick goals.

For a second year player his Ruck bodywork and positioning is quite good. Plus he has great hands and mobility. Looks far more comfortable as a Ruckman.

This week's game convinced me he is going to be our next lead Ruckman. An elite one at that. Tall mid who Rucks.

The lack of aggression and ability to lead tells me he won't be a key forward. Will kick goals, but not be a 200cm Key Forward

Well, that must be another big failure of drafting then. ;)

Having said that, I reckon he would make a good wingman in the Richo mould.

I don't call that a fail

Many people wanted Brodie Grundy and willing to give up two first rounders for him.

That can be him.

He could probably play anywhere and do well. Agree wing another position.

I think we are better off having him up the ground more than as a Key Forward.

I'm really not worried about Riley in the slightest. I think he's got some very unrealistic immediate expectations on him. But at the end of the day he's a 202cm teenager who hasn't come remotely close to his potential yet. Get him 10 more kg's on his frame and 60 more games, and this kid will likely be our best player, or damn close too it!

He has really regressed this year, though. Last year, he had irrepressible periods of dominance (not so much after his knee injury). This year, nil, and he has no energy or confidence. As I said elsewhere, what underlined this in the last match, and exceeded my tolerance level, was when he grabbed the ball in a centre-bounce situation, and then had it stripped off him by a small midfielder who ran away with it. You don't see that very often! ;)

We've got to be patient as these type of players take a long time to mature. See Peter Wright.

Heck we've probably written Himmelberg off too quickly, as frustrating as he is.

Then we overpaid for Riley if that's the case and should have taken Logan McDonald or maybe Denver Grainger-Barras even factoring the retention issues with WA lads.

I'm bloody sure we drafted Riley as a KPF that could chop out on ruck if required.

I note the popular choice on this board Elijah Holland's hasn't exactly set the World on fire in the VFL as yet.

He's still effin 19!!!!

  • doesn’t crunch at the footy
  • lacks body strength
  • looks timid

Give me a break.

I don't think we over paid at all.

More talent than any of the other KPP in that draft.

I guess early days though. Maybe as he matures he becomes more of a forward.

But your saying his future is in the ruck aren't you?
I'm hopeful he eventually becomes the roving key forward much in the same role as Nick Riewoldt of past seasons...he has the endurance and athleticism needed for that kind of role.

GOOD coaches mix it up when a player is down.

But agree with your premise, play him up the ground in the ruck or on the wing.

We've seen the shitshow our young forwards go through having to play ahead of our stacked midfield, would be the worst spot to play in the entire AFL - just highlights how good Tex is.

Hes 202cm and 105kg, how much more can his body fill out?

I struggle to see him as a gun KPF, lacks aggression and gets killed in 1v1s. He's also not moving well at all which may be down to a limited preseason.

Would play him on a Wing and pinch in the ruck. Cant afford to drop him.
