The other American Ryan Lochte beat him I think Four times in the Worlds but can't touch him at the games.
Nope he didn't beat him 4 times. It was once in 2011. He didn't swim in 2 of the meets Lochte won 4 in a row of the 200IM and didn't swim it the other time in 2009. Crocker beat him a couple of times in the 100m butterfly in 2003 and 2005. You have to stop listening to Bazil.

Just saw the Campbell race... wow, it's unbelievable how much Cate slowed down in the last 20m or so. If they had draft picks in swimming you'd be suspicious she tanked the end of the race, it was that dramatic.

Had to laugh at the Swisse ad with the sisters coming on almost immediately after spruiking about how the vitamins could help you deal with stress.

Don't reckon that's a good advertisement for the product right now.

I didn't catch the races so I haven't heard Basil.
Whatever the meet I'm sure Lochte has beaten Phelps four times but the point I was making is it was never going to happen at the Olympics.

not just the swimmers. I was watching the interview of the rowers who replaced the Russian team, after their lost one rower was happy she's in Rio and time to party now. Um ok.

think that is a bit more reasonable. they only found out 9 days before the games started that they got the call up, arrived 2 days before competiting etc. none of them were training for it as a result of not getting selected. anyone would have taken advantage of that opportunity to head to Rio, and had the same attitude. you can't be expected to seriously compete at an elite level without training.

Looks like Kyle has a new nick name not King Kyle as dubbed by the advertiser

PORT Lincoln swim star Kyle Chalmers was told he could live life in the small pond of the AFL or become a “Big Tuna” on the world stage in swimming.

When Chalmers reached the crossroads of his sporting career in May last year, head swim coach Jacco Verhaeren had a blunt but effective message about where the multi-talented could take his life.
“There’s a certain point in your career where you have to choose. You can’t keep doing both,” Verhaeren said. “It was going through my mind ‘do you want to be AFL, a domestic star, or do you want to be a world star?’ I’m happy he chose the second one.”

Just catching up on this thread and all the posts since the swimming last night. Was at the volleyball last night so didn't know the results til a few hours later.

It's beyond disappointing how many of our swimmers have fared in rio. But you also have to step in their shoes and imagine their own disappointment. To train for most of their life to not deliver their best result when it is ultimately most important, is something that would sting them for a long time.

The question has to be asked as to what we are doing as preparation for the Olympics. We perform well at world champs and trials, but we need to be peaking once every 4 years at the olympics. The coaches and swimming Australia have a huge amount to answer for, sadly it's been incredibly disappointing considering our ranking and pb times for some of these events.

There is a lot of emotion in here and that's because many of us have grown up watching swimming as the pinnacle for Australia at the OG. It only happens every 4 years and it's upsetting seeing results as they are.

What? He's not in great form, but we saw what he produced in the 4x1, and I think he would've lifted again in the 4x2. Less pressure in relays, because of the team environment. If Cam had swum the relay not only do I think we would've got silver, but I think he might've taken some confidence into his individual events too.
Twaddle. And what's more, cam himself calls it twaddle. The man was shot. Let's move on.

I did the same freezing it every ten or so metres. Even then I still can't believe it. It makes me wonder about the mental energy excuse as she really did look the goods with 25 to go. Mental fatigue kicked in at the 75?

I think there was merit to what Giaan said after the race. Kate looked like she had two actions on the blocks, as though she hesitated. I believe her reaction time was .8 (very poor) and panicked by going out really hard in the first 50 and didn't have enough in the tank to finish strongly

Surely you jest. He said he is the 1500 metre King.
Surely he made the final..
He did not

Suffering from 'illness'

I believe the official diagnosis is 'mentally disintegrated' by our man Mack ;)

It's good that she's been honest, but now she just needs to either put it behind her or find a way to channel it into the 50m. If they both don't get over it now it's the kind of thing that will follow them to every major event and haunt them forever.

Cate Campbell must know she's blown her chance to win the 100m gold at the Olympics. She's 24, she won't be winning it at 28. I'm not sure how you'd let go of that easily.

Same with Cam McEvoy, these people aren't Thorpe who started early and just kept winning. Chalmers might turn out like that. We can hope.

The reaction time wasn't that bad when you compare it to the rest of the field but as you say she panicked and she overcooked herself thus ruining any chance:

Rank ---------- Reaction Time--1st lap--2nd lap--TIME
1 MANUEL Simone USA 0.68 (3) 25.24 27.46 52.70
1 OLEKSIAK Penny CAN 0.69 (7) 25.70 27.00 52.70
3 SJOSTROM Sarah SWE 0.68 (5) 25.45 27.54 52.99
4 CAMPBELL Bronte AUS 0.69 (2) 25.04 28.00 53.04
5 KROMOWIDJOJO Ranomi NED 0.70 (6) 25.55 27.53 53.08
6 CAMPBELL Cate AUS 0.80 (1) 24.77 28.47 53.24
7 WEITZEIL Abbey USA 0.70 (4) 25.39 27.91 53.30

Looked like she went out way too hard.
