a lot of our boys have put up beautiful tributes to Cam - this is going to be incredibly tough for JLo to hold them together.
I dont usually a tear for players or sportsperson . Kobe Bryant maybe. I dont have much affilation with him, but it did bring a slight tear to my eye. Mainly due to being so young at 29 years of age, at that age you have a whole life ahead of you and what probably striked me was he was a good teammate to be around.

And tonights game Id imagine alot of players on the Freo squad would have been close to him.

The GIANTS are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former player Cam McCarthy.

McCarthy was drafted to the club with pick 14 in the 2013 national draft and played 21 games for the club between 2014 and 2016 before moving back to his home state of Western Australia to play at the Fremantle Dockers.

“We are saddened to learn of Cam’s passing. The news has had a profound impact on many current and former GIANTS players and staff,” said GIANTS Chief Executive Officer David Matthews.

“Cam had great energy and was a much-loved member of our club for the seasons he was here. He was very popular and a bright footballing talent.

“On behalf of the GIANTS, we extend our deepest sympathies to the entire McCarthy family and his many friends.”

I am so upset about this, it is very hard for me to summon adequate words. It is so profoundly tragic.

Seems so many people lose their way and their understanding of the value of life, no matter how challenging. I have been pushed to the brink many times, but I was able to pull back and find that value. I mourn this loss, the other losses of our great football club and any person, of any gender who has ever walked this path. It is damn heartbreaking.

It's never too late to get the help you need, to find happiness. Life is short, so embrace it for the gift it is. RIP Cam, I wish I'd known you and could have reached you in that manner, but alas...........

Cam was warm and genuine.
He loved Daddy Doker so much.
FMD, just imagine, if the cards had been kinder he'd be King of Freo's 2024 Forwards.
He was a unique character that belongs at our club, so sorry that he's gone so soon.

"The South Fremantle Football Club is deeply saddened by the passing of former player Cam McCarthy.

A South zoned junior from the South Coogee JFC, McCarthy was drafted pick 14 in 2013 to the GWS Giants direct from the South Colts program, before returning to WA in 2017 to play with the Fremantle Dockers.

In 2021, Cam rejoined South Fremantle and played WAFL footy in both the 2021 & 2022 seasons.

Cam is remembered not just as a prodigious football talent, but as a popular, compassionate and caring person who had time for everyone at our Club. He will be dearly missed.

The entire South Fremantle Football Club community offers condolences to the McCarthy family at this difficult time."
A southerner, forever more.

Honestly, #$$@ GWS.

I know there's an element of hindsight being 20/20 but the kid wanted to return home and play for the team he loved, but they wanted to make a statement and forced him to sit out a year before trading anyway. There's a real person behind the contract and all I can say is @#$% them.

At the end of the 2019 season the FFC invited the Cheer squad and the people who make our Banners to a BBQ at Cockburn. It was the Club’s way of saying Thankyou. We also met the players and JL for a chat and some autographs. I remember commenting to Cam that in the game that season where he had kicked a bucket load of goals that he was “on fire” and we had been in awe with how he played. Well he gave me the broadest smile you can imagine and thanked me for saying it. He was literally beaming.

I will never forget that moment.

Gone too soon Cam.

This ovation thing is a bit wierd for me, what if the Swans are lining up for goal at that time.
There's already a pre game tribute.

It's just a distraction the players don't need.
We did an ovation in the starlight game for Millie when we got smashed by Geelong. It was a lovely tribute regardless of when in the game it happens.
