Good news: I am heading over from Perth for my annual melbourne trip and will be at the game.

Bad news: Here are the last 3 Carlton games I have attended in melbourne.
2017 v Adelaide - loss by 22 points
2016 v North Melbourne loss by 67 points
2015 v Hawthorn loss by 138 points.

In saying that.......................Blues by 15

Dow the obvious in along with one or both of Casboult & McKay. St Kilda's taken a bit of a beating to their tall defender stocks with Roberton, Brown & (most likely) Carlisle unavailable this week, I'd be happy with us going the three talls and try and work them over a bit there (and give Charlie some protection rather than directing 80% of our inside 50 ball to him).

Hopefully tomorrow's injury report is favourable for Simpson, Garlett, Kerridge, Byrne & Macreadie, although I wouldn't think Byrne & Macreadie are in consideration for senior selection this week. Fingers crossed it doesn't feature Weitering and Marchbank, at least in any significant way.

I guess, like most weeks, we'll just have to sit back and wait for the veterinary report...

Na they’ll all be good then at selection lose two we didn’t know about, then have a late out, then get two down with injury during the game.

PLAY HARRY FFS!!!
Hipwood was drafted 4 picks after Harry yet has played will play his 50th game this year..
Yes injuries, yes 3 tall forwards, yes potential attitude issues...
But enough is enough..
Brisbane have put up with some real ordinary, stinky performances from Hipwood.
But they've gotten 50 games into him and now are reaping rewards from that.

Play him EVERY game for the rest of the year Carlton!

Can we just flip the structure - play 1 tall defender and 4 tall forwards?

Simpson, Jones, Silvagni
O'Brien, Thomas, Mullett
Curnow, Fisher, Murphy
Kreuzer, Cripps, Kennedy
SPS, Curnow, Pickett
Casboult, McKay, Kerr
I/C: Lang, Lamb, Dow, Kerridge

Spread the forwards, every second forward 50 entry should be a mark. Punish the Saints inaccuracy and get some overlap run out of defence and through the middle.

McCartin out for them so it means that Membrey (who has killed us in the past is thier main target up there) plus Gresham who is their best player ATM so we really cannot be too tall and immobile down back

Well knowing that the match committee like going into games at etihad as tall as possible we will bring in Lobbe, Casboult and Harry for Phillips, Marchbank and Lang.

B: Silvagni Jones Thomas
HB: Marchbank Rowe Simpson
C: Murphy Cripps O'Brien
HF: SPS Curnow Fisher
F: Garlett McKay Pickett
OB: Kreuzer Curnow Dow
IC: Kennedy Lang Lamb TDK
EM: Kerridge Kerr Polson Mullett

IN
McKay - Had a spell in the VFL, had a rest, should be fresh.

Simpson - obvious selection if fit.

TDK - Has been good all year, had a little lay off with injury then had the week off, should be fresh, good opportunity to debut.

Dow - Obvious one back in.

Garlett - If fit he fulfills our need for speed. Last game was decent.

OUT
Graham - Enough slow players, average game.

Polson - Isn't finding it or using it well when he does. Had a chance, didn't take it.

Wright - Been no good all year, doesn't find it, doesn't kick goals, doesn't apply pressure. Would have dropped him last week.

Phillips - Injured.

Weitering - Injured.

Needs
Forward line needs a shake up, we have struggled to get possession there, struggled to apply pressure and struggled to lock it in. McKay, Curnow and TDK are talls with decent athleticism. We need more effort and players pushing back defensively. Casboult needs a run in the reserves, been poor all year. A Bit more speed and run will be good. Byrne probably still a game or two away. Same with Macreadie. Would suspect weitering with a calf is out though Marchbank is probably dehydration/heat stress so probably ok. I never heard what Garlett's injury was. Give the players an easy week on the track and get everyone fresh. Lots of run and pressure.

Missing
Docherty, Plowman, Weitering, Williamson, Cuningham

C'mon Blues, don't want drive all the way from Canberra for a repeat performance of the shite dished up last week. Show some ticker!!
Great to see another Canberra poster on BF :thumbsu:

Driving to Melbourne to watch the Blues , truly a diehard :D

Not sure I will watch this one. Might take a break.

Really ok with the direction of the club and excited for 2019. Still love SoS and Bolton's work.

But the here and now is just tough yards. The zone defence is in reality a form of witches hats. Exacerbated by in the short term a very broken midfield in terms of when we don't have the ball. This makes it almost of zero benefit to have the extra man in defence as the opposition run training drill kicks into their fwd 50 once the game settles. The extra man or two in defence leaves our thin forward line dead in the water.

Problems by the bucketload hence the 'we are broken tag' earlier in the season. Thank **** for the bombers hitting rock bottom earlier in the season and giving us a freebie.

As we have hit rock bottom then it should all be about development. I finally agree to playing Mckay for the rest of the season and sidelining Casbault. That will tell us a bit more about the Luko decision which is an important one. I want the MC to play Polson for more games as i think that will highlight he is not up to the highest level and that we can move on quickly; same for Garlett. I know both are young but i just dont see the green shoots for either. Not expecting the world from them at all, just signs. Both shown little. Garlett is the proverbial witches hat so pisses me off no end.

The list Lloyd put up on the AFL site was close to the mark of who we should get rid of. Guy is stupid and annoying in general but i agree with that list.

Seems people are finally agreeing with my post a while back calling for Harry to be played in the seniors to gain experience as aopposed to wallowing in the 2's.

Not just a pretty face.
I can’t see how McKay comes in this week.

He was named in the best two weeks ago and wasn’t recalled. No game for him last week. So he obviously hasn’t had a chance to work on whatever is holding him back, and so it would be hypocritical in the extreme of the MC to recall him on that basis.

Well, same as Kerr, and Levi who was dropped this week, but given that Philips is out at least 1 of them has to come in.

I want Harry to play too, hopefully he busts his **** this week at training and demands selection. We really need to correct our balance of talls at each end of the ground, having a 1:4 fwd/def split (Charlie:Jones/Rowe/Weitering/Marchbank) is something to definitely avoid if possible...

I’m ok with Polson playing again. His game is leaving a lot to be desired but I think he showed a bit more this week than previous outings. He has pace and his kick to Flip after that run tapping it forward to himself was great.

I actually though Garlett’s last game was alright, his best performance for us. 17 disposals, 7 contested, 4 stoppage clearances, 4 score involvements, should have had a goal of not for Pickett’s stray hand and could have had two, also highest average moving speed of any player in the game.

Considering how we’ve struggled so much on the spread, having it’d be nice to have a couple of guys like Polson and Garlett who can run faster than me...

Well, same as Kerr, and Levi who was dropped this week, but given that Philips is out at least 1 of them has to come in.

McKay has been held out for a very specific reason -apparently- so not being able to work on them/it would make it impossible for him to be recalled and for the MC to maintain any (remaining) credibility. So either Kerr or Levi are the only options if a forward is to come in.

However Philips being out doesn’t necessitate an actual forward to be brought in. They can just throw Rowe up forward or some other sub-optimal scenario that will likely result in less goals.

I feel it will be Dow and Simpson in. If both Philips and Marchbank are out then one of Levi or Kerr.

I waited for the vet report to update on Cuningham in last few weeks. Gave me donuts....
I hear from others his season is over. Depressing how little information I can get from my own club
