Thornton will stay because on game day things don't always go to plan and T-bird is someone who is mutable and in the kind of form that could prove crucial in a cut-throat final.

With Waite having pulled up sore again, it is becoming less & less likely that we will see him again this season, therefore Thornton's position in the side is virtually guaranteed come September.

Although not as effective as Waite in the forward line, Thornton is our next best option & offers the same footy smarts that Waite offers.

Defensive forward or midfield role??

Could see Hodge somewhat exposed if Gibbs continue his goal scoring form, but similarly, Hodge could tear him, and us, to shreds in the midfield.

Both.

If it were up to me - wherever Hodge goes, Gibbs goes.

You are right he could tear us to shreds but I think Gibbs is comfortably the best matchup for Hodge all over the park.

Hodge is a gun and will do what he does. If Gibbs can either limit Hodge's effectiveness or hurt him going the other way then he'll have done his job.

Gibbs has done the job on many an outstanding player over the years, including this season. Hodge is a star but his influence can be quelled.

No, but at some stage he may be asked to fill a hole in front of Buddy. Henderson or Jamison will play on Buddy. Thornton a chance if he gets away from the others and we need to change things up. No Gibbs or Davies, just not strong enough or tall enough.

I'm not sure that Hendo is suited to play on Buddy, Jamo probably doesn't have the fitness, and T-Bird doesn't have the pace.

I was thinking that Davies would be out for JR, but maybe they have a special role for him.

This is both the most likely to happen, and also IMO, the most effective way of combating these players. Hodge can murder teams with 15 touches, he will find that much of the ball.

But, if you kick an early goal on him, and set up a few others, the power dynamic between the players changes markedly, and remains as such for the rest of the match.

It's a mindset thing, and I'm sure Ratten has directed our mob to seek out Gibbs when playing on his high profile opponents - has completely opened up Goddard and Goodes by doing this.

I stopped listening after he said the Hawthorn list was healthy.

Hawks strategy struggled without a key defender who could play on Cloke and under the pressure of the Pies press. Not a Premiership side this year.

By contrast Carlton can reasonably expect if they did make a GF this year to have a defender capable of going with Cloke, have proved that they can otherwise push the Pies and have the midfield to match the pressure game. However I don't think we'll win it. Next year is a different kettle of fish though

Hawks have been taken apart by Collingwood and can not beat Geelong but because they hammer Dees and Port they can win flag? Same sort of nonsense that had same babblers carrying on about Essendon being a contender early in the season. Fools and imbeciles.

I think we are a better performed side than Hawthorn this year and I hope hope hope we prove that we are better head to head tonight.

Nobody is tipping us and the bookies have them quite firm favourites. This is a disregard that borders on disrespect and I hope our boys respond. In the end I think the disregard is rooted in a belief that we are softer than them and they will exploit that so this is a huge opportunity to prove otherwise. I hope we smash them on the park and on the scoreboard.

Sewell was under an injury cloud this week, so you would think he would be the one to miss.
Probably right but Bateman and Burgoyne both had slight injury concerns also, my preference would be to have Sewell out from those 3, Osborne coming in will offset that a little as he is usually pretty damaging against us.

Don't you get the feeling that everyone - BF, media - is getting just a little bit Buddy-centric ??

Hope Ratts isn't.
getting? Have been for years. Chuck in Cyril and there are plenty of stains for the stains.

Would love Yazzle on Cyril just for the spectacle! I could see Yazzle forcing Cyril's hammy to pop!

I'm ok with our matchups all over the ground except Buddy!

I just dont see us holding him.

If only we had Talia, cos we all know how well he has been doing.....oh wait :D

Are we any chance of keeping Buddy & Cyril to the numbers they had against North only 2 weeks ago?

Buddy: 13 possessions with 3 goals
Cyril R: 14 possessions with 1 goal.

Geez, how things can change through the media in one week.
Now we're just wishing to keep Buddy to 6 goals or under and Cyril to 5 goals or under.

Yes they are indeed in a lather. BT said he had his shorts on under his suit because he was plaing basketball. I suspect he had to change his pants for other reasons that involved his love for Buddy and Cyril.:D
