I just worry that as a midfield group we are too same same. I know they cover territory, but I think you are being generous with their pace assessments.

We lost the inside 50's by about 20% last week. Our forward line camouflaged some of our midfield issues. 2 Dog midfielders got coaches votes, only Ed did for us. Melbourne and St.Kilda ran all over us early in those games.

Port were smart enough to realize they had one too many plodders last week - so they omitted Rockliff.

We have a lot more depth now, and if we need to use it for a horses/courses situation, then we should - regardless of the result the week before IMO.
Maybe when we are a bit more settled and experienced we could afford to try a horses for courses approach but I think at the moment we need continuity more than anything, first unchanged side since Rd2 2017 so I think it’s good for team chemistry to keep it as settled and stable as possible especially coming up against an in form outfit like Port.

Dogs got repeat entires because we brought it out under pressure, and turned it over. But they went back inside under pressure.
We didn't get the same repeat entries, because on 56% of our entries we scored.
Plus I think we learned from previous matches and pulled our press back a bit so that it wasn’t too crowded inside our 50 like it was in there’s with there much higher denser press, this is something we learned from the Cats game specifically, where we got lots of entries but it was hard to score because of the density of players squashed up high, pull back the press a bit and it opens it up for easier scoring.

Small adjustments is something Teague and the coaches have done very well from week to week and it bodes well for the road ahead.

Could see Plow going to Gray.
Depends if our coaches want to play more a negating role on Gray with Plow or to try and punish him going the other way with SPS.
Could also see Willo going to him.
It’s the smaller forwards (Butters and Rozee) I’m more worried about - not because they’re better players, more that we don’t have a natural matchup for them IMO.
Small forwards have been our Achilles for sometime ..

I can see how he'd want to give Harry a Joe-The-Goose to help with his confidence after missing so much footy (not that Harry seems to lack any). Murph's pretty good at knowing when to take shots himself.
Yeah was surprised he didn’t pull the fake then step inside and hit one of his beautiful bananaanananas he is so good at.

How’s Willo go defensively 1-1? Seems a good match-up for Rozee on paper.

Simpson and Butters will be a good possible match-up - 2 very smart footballers.

I reckon they’ll try play Farrel as a defensive forward on Doc, but I’ve got faith that between he and SPS rebound won’t be an issue.

I hope Weitering gets Dixon - he would want the best forward every week and Jones will be able to give support - Marshal is just a foil atm (hope those words don’t come back to bite me).

100% this. You'd watch a game thinking that Phillips did lots of handy things, and then realise that the opposition ruckman was actually BOG generally doing as they pleased.

Love Pitto, he's been such a find and the exact type of ruckman we've been crying out for.
I love Pitto. He's like a giant Gibbo, very physical, but not aggressive. These types encourage the others, it's been our missing link.

Your spot on about his physicality but i think whats actually impressed me most about him is hands, watching last weeks game I was surprised at how clean he was below his knees for a gentleman his size.

Rozee is strong overhead and would outmark Williamson. Docherty would be a better match up. Plowman usually does the job on well built medium side forwards and as for Butters would give first crack to Williamson. Play Samo loose.

They are 100% in games he has played.

I haven't watched many of their games this season, so haven't kept an eye on him. I'm taking notice of how he's going tonight; English has out-marked him on a few occasions. Phillips's been a reasonable tap ruckman, but seems to be challenged tonight. Its not the first time English has done ok on him.

Noticed the Walsh snaps across the body, too.
Might be playing a bit more of an inside role this year, so under a bit more pressure when disposing?
Helping out down back a lot and feeling the pressure a bit. Will need to tidy it up a bit if he maintains that role. I’ll back the lad to grow into the role and add some silk back there.

Big test for SPS. Can he negate and run off one of them? You’d think he would get one of them to keep a Doc off an accountable role. Simmo an option too.
