MRP / Trib. Robbie 1 game

Afl are ****heads

Tackle a bloke who came at you from the side without the ball and trip/ lunged into you?

Run away from the contest

What the **** is that bullshit

The worst is you know it won’t be upheld when the next Victorian player fronts the tribunal.

What kind of ******* hideously incompetent asshat validates Cameron’s late hit off the ball on Amon but condemns a player going for the ball?

The incident I think you are talking about involved that moron Cameron and Dan Houston. Of course it was play on and the Crows scored from that missed Port free kick. However, Cameron was cited by the MRP and it cost him a fine. Please explain AFL?

Just seen the vision for the first time. Serious question, do we never get the rub of the green from the MRP or is it just every fan's conviction that their team is unfairly treated? It wasn't even a bump, and Robbie doesn't raise his elbow or shoulder. McGovern is ducking into the contest, what can the attacking player do, squib it?

Will this just result in all players being coached to duck?

Capital called it yesterday

The panel said gray should have squibbed the contest (a contest he couldn’t see coming unless he was psychic)

Yet another incentive the afl is giving to players to go headfirst into contests

The AFL may have backed themselves into a corner with this.

There is no leeway left and no possibility of overlooking any on-field bumps or hits of equal incidence this year.

So we now all understand and have a textbook definition of Gray's contact with McGovern is 1 game and not a fine, demerit points and not 'umpires now targeting' letoffs.

They have either gone all out with a strict no-tolerance approach for all onfield incidents of this kind or they soften and blunder a similar incident later in the year.

I don't agree with the 1 game ban for Gray but I'm a bit more content if Gray was an unfortunate first time offendee nabbed under the new rules.

Both were adjudged to have both hands near the ball. Which is what they what they would advise Robbie to do next time. Make sure you're reaching for the ball at the very least.
Agreed. With one hand. Whilst taking the exact same brace position on the side closest to your opponent and hitting them in the head with your shoulder. And mentioned, being captain of a Melbourne-based team in the finals helps.

We have thought the same thing before, to see the afl change their benchmark when it suits them

The dictionary has been re-written today. A brace is now included in the definition of bump. Google it, it’s true.
Brace - When the player has the ball/ is making an attempt to grab the ball and anticipates contact.
Bump - When a player does not have the ball and anticipates contact.

Brace and make contact to face - No case to answer
Bump and make contact to face - 1 match ban (minimum).

When I first read about the result, and comments from the tribunal, I too was going to post the Python gif but beaten by Pappagallo

What on earth are we going to see this year?

Well we won’t be seeing R.Gray round 1.

The AFL really is dumb, that suspension won’t reform Gray or change player behaviour for the better. It will disenfranchise supporters though.

Griffin was our legal eagle

We could have had Perry Mason, Cleaver Green and Rumpole of the Bailey defending Robbie he would not have got off. When an absolute know nothing like Woods can get away with ludicrous statements we know the result was predetermined.

The system is ****ed.

The really stupid thing is Robbie gets rubbed out for a minor round game after an incident in a pre season game but is still eligible for the Brownlow because the incident occurred in a pre season fixture. Yeah right.

Poor decision to challenge.

1 - Players who bump other players in the head leaving them with any degree of concussion have been suspended as a matter of course for years now. The Cotchin incident was a rogue decision made only to ensure he didn't miss the grand final. We can go back and forth on here all day long about alternative courses of action but there it is right from the mouth of the AFL's prosecutor - they'd rather you not contest the ball at all than contest it like that.

2 - The AFL was never going to allow Christian to lose his first case at the tribunal so gleefully volunteering to be the guinea pig despite having at best a weak case was just dumb.
2 points you make that show they are corrupt.

The precedent has now been set...

...i'm sure it will be applied consistently during the course of the year*

*no, it won't, you got screwed, your club comes from the wrong state, and if you believe the consistency line, i've got a bridge to sell you

i just hope that when this happens, KT/Koch have the back bone to stand up and say "Gill, please explain how this is anything other then blatant bias. Now give us out 10K and pay our legal fees and guarantee moving forward our players will be adjudicated to the same standard as those from Vic"

We all know that the only thing consistent with the MRP and the AFL Tribunal is it's inconsistency.

Agree, this is the one thing that really pisses me off about the game at the moment. Say what you like about the SANFL but at least in pre-AFL days you didn't spend half of the game worrying whether players would be suspended for contesting the ball. Right now the SANFL has nearly caught up with the AFL in stupid rules but it was more about the game and the players in the 80s and 90s.

I like it. Probably would never happen, but half the AFL would immediately do this:

Remember that time we thought Pannell's umpiring against the Bulldogs was a bit funny? We had someone take a photo of the stat software from CD, give it to someone else, who tweeted it showing a 17-1 free kick differential... as i recall the AFL had a shit-fit, and we did it sneaky. A full-frontal assault might cause a war.

I can't remember when, but we may have done it during the reign of Vlad the Impaler. You have Gillon "Never Be In The Same Room As A Decision" McLachlan, he's a pile of Jello, you might have a better chance

**** I hope the 2018 Grand Final has 10 clashes exactly like this and 10 concussions evenly spread between the 2 teams. Lets see how the pricks at the AFL handle it then.

Read somewhere on our board about someone here saying they love the club but are starting to hate the game. Pretty much sums up my feelings at this point and it makes me sad because this is only the tip of the iceberg. You just know any Port players minor indiscretion will cop the maximum punishment in relation to Vic players. We've seen it enough times to know.

These challenges are just gunna be big money grabs by the AFL. This will probably set the precedent of things not being successfully challenged and resulting in many $10,000 revenue grabs by the afl.
