Toast Robbie Warnock clearly our no 1 ruckman

How can we possibly make a move? Everything just seemed to work today.

As they say, there's no point fixing what ain't broken. :thumbsu:
Eagles decimated with their talls this year and they have two genuinely gun rucks. Kreuzer is unlikely to come up, but I would consider Hammer coming in, rotating between ruck/bench and forward, while Setanta can rotate between forward and bench but won't have to ruck.

But then who goes out for him?

Warnock won't be dropped, nor should Irish. If we choose to drop a smaller player, that takes away from our run and carry style.

It's a bit of a pickle. But you do bring up a great point - the Eagles' rucks could slaughter us. Let's just hope Cox doesn't come up (it's damn hard to use that man's name without making a pun).

Davies is probably the unlucky one, and knowing the MC this year - army or joseph will end up as sub.
Wouldn't surprise me.

Surely Tuohy must come in. He rocked up at Ants game at half time and turned the game on its head.

Yes, Davies will be the one to make way. He was there as a medium/tall backup for Jamo anyway. If Hammer or Kreuzer come in, we can use Thornton as backup if a defender goes down and Setanta and the extra ruckman can still provide a contest up forward. Would be hard to see any of the guys have to be the sub, but if I had to choose it would probably be Joseph as Armfield's run and tackling will be vital next week and he is a WA boy. Army cleaned up a lot against the Bombers and while Joseph is a good on the small forwards, the Eagles don't really have anybody for him to match up on.

We need another genuine marking option to combat the Eagles zone. We'll go in with a far stronger side than we did last time round, with our talls more settled though.

Hampson for Davies sounds about right. Hopefully Gibbs is fine.

As for Warnock, he looked as strong in the contest as I've ever seen him. Looked a genuine, hardened AFL ruckman and not just a beanpole.

Hampson for Davies with AJ to the sub role sounds about right. I agree with ODN, Army will be absolutely vital. Did his job again today and I feel out of place suggesting this but I for one believe we're a better team when he's out on the park.

On topic, I'm willing to eat pie. One of the best performances I have ever seen out of a ruck. Did everything perfectly and he didn't do it against two slouches, either. Took the challenge right to two of the better rucks in the game and taught them both how to play finals football. Congrats 206. That's the type of performance that wins teams premierships ala Harry Madden in the big ones.

I'm so impressed with Knockers. As said, he did it all. In the air :)eek:), at ground level and also linked up well.

It's always a great sign when a young player can show they can stand up in finals and admittedly, I never expected it to be Warnock. But congrats to him, he took it up to a pair of ruckmen who are usually pretty highly rated.

I watched him closely and the impact he had whenever he was in the ruck contest was phenomenal. He gave our mids an armchair ride at times.

Geez I hope that was his breakout game! I almost fell off my chair when he took that first contested mark ... seriously was the first one I had seen him take.

Have been very disappointed in the big man this year after raving about him towards the end of last year. Well he saved his best for when it counted so i can eat my humble pie and savour it.

Well done knockers!

His first good game for us, I could not be more pleased with him. For influence on the game I had him BOG. And as you read earlier in this thread I'm one of his bigger knockers. Perhaps he's a finals specialist? This doesn't change the fact he's been utter shit until now, but I'm hoping he's turned the corner and we always get performances like yesterday

Warnock actually took some marks on Sunday which was great to see. He also played with more aggression and desperation and gave us a bit around stoppages. His rucking was a massive part of the win. Next week he faces the best ruck duo in the comp, it's gonna be tough but lets hope he fires up again and has a real crack.

Your football knowledge is either very poor, or you miss a lot of Carlton games.

I really don't know about dropping Setanta for Hampson. Setanta has been really good, sure he can't take a mark in the hands but most of the time neither can Hampson. Setanta has some tricks at ground level and for the first time has been craching bodies and hitting hard in marking contests. Actually had a lot of shots on goal on the weekend and if he'd have kicked straight his numbers would look really good.

The only reason you would drop Setanta for Hampson is to get more of a challenge in the ruck with the two big tap men as this is going to be so important to compete here.

I really don't know what to do here at all, selection is going to be really hard this week.

No, we shouldn't be dropping Setanta.
All year we've been crying out for a key forward. He's doing well, leave him.

I do think we need to bring in Hammer or Kreuz. Davies will make way.
Not sure about who becomes sub. Shit rule.

Had him as BOG due to his being (IMO) the most influential player on the ground.

Same reason I had Robinson in my best for the job he did undermining Essendons defence by shutting Fletcher down.

Agree with this ^ wholeheartedly. Would also have Laidler in the best too for his saving marks and continual mopping up around the backline. He's really a mature head down their with Duigan now and together with Jamo I can see the foundations of a very good backline finally taking shape (I would include Hendo but who knows if he'll stay in the backline).

Some credit needs to go to Irish too. .. He was beaten in the ruck contests but his endeavour and follow up pressure didn't allow their rucks and mids to relax and gain momentum, allowing Warnock to turn on the heat again after a rest on the bench. ..

Setanta won't get the recognition he deserves because he didn't dominate hitouts, possessions or on the scoreboard. However, when you take a step back and see the bigger picture, his role was as important to us as anyone else's. And he did it very well.
