Robbins article in Inside Football

There is a great article/interview with Robbins in this week's Inside Football.
One thing that stood out for me, is that last year he was actually our highest tackler and handballer by a mile, as well as being second on our list in lose ball gets and hard ball gets.
He also finished 7th in the B&F.

And after all that most of the people here (including myself I must add) had him dropping out of the 22. Essendon game further underlined the fact that we have a fine midfielder on our list that fails to get the raps he deserves.

Simmo should buy Benny a few beers (in fact lots of beers) for helping him to get a Syd Barker and All Aus last year!

Basically Benny's in an under work and tagging roles freed up Simmo to take his game to the next level, able to run off a bit and play a bit looser!

Benny Robbins a VERY underrated addition to the Roos!

Cheers

Where is that windsock guy? I liked his stuff - didnt always agree, but! A very angry man at times!!
In his defence I seem to recall that he used to say that he liked Robbins but he couldn't understand why we drafted him, esp when we had so many of his type already on the list. Gotta sorta agree, considering harris and smith weren't in the side on the weekend. In hindsight we were lucky someone like Baird and Morrell (was he eligible to be drafted?) lasted till the rookie draft. You'd reckon we'd have been better off getting these taller-type blokes on the list than another pip-squeak tough onballer.
I remember all this cos I agreed with him at the time. Don't think too many others did!
On sat's performance though Im wrappd we drafted Robbo and still got hold of the other two blokes.

Robbo was just unlucky that Brissys midfield was so good otherwise he would have been playing every week, even still...i think he played something like 12 games in 2001 (the premiership year) so that wasnt too bad i guess, and Pagan took him under his wing and now Laidley gets the even better Robbins this year :)
Thanks Denis we got a real bargain mate.
Cheers

My thoughts exactly, Gonzo. Even go as far as to say he'll take over Stevo's role in the midfield when he goes, if he hasn't already. eg the smothers, the tackles, all the little things that make Stevo so special.

He won't be the next club captain, but he'll certainly be a leader at the club for a long time.

Very underrated!!!!!!!

I remember when we first drafted Robbins I was very excited,So when Isaw him in action for the first time for the Roos he didnt let us down,The rest of the season was very consistent.
I just cant beleive how much crap he cops from some Roo supporters......Very underrated player.......

Windsock didn't say he was a crap player, only questioned the value in picking him up when we already had similar players to him on our list eg. Harris and Smith. He also mentioned the success we have had with our picks in the mid 20's or 30's (where-ever Robbins was picked up) of young players.
