Rodan heartbreak for Tigers' fans

He got that article so wrong.

No one is crying about Rodan.

Good luck to the bloke.

Obviously he fits in with Ports list more than Richmonds at the moment.
No sour grapes here from me and I'm sure that goes with the majority of Richmond fans.

Rodans a top bloke and I wish the bloke all the best.

Polak played just as good for us in the backline as a loose defender. Compare his effort on the weeked to 'our' loose man in Michael Johnson. As soon as Thornton was moved to him after leaving him free for a couple of quarters, he dissapeared.

Polak is useless and although he would be in the top5 of Richmond's b&f, he wouldn't get a game with us this year.

Pavlich won the game for Freo. If Polak was capable of playing on him then the sotry might have been different. He certainly is not a CHB. Just my opinion.

He's one of our best but he wouldn't make your 22 this year? By that reasoning your team should slaughter our lowly team with it's best players of VFL standard. Did you watch the game, there wasn't much between our sides, make an excuse, please.

He had a good first season when we signed him up. He will drop form sooner or later, his not one to have alot of consistant games season after season. Richmond fans should know this as a fact.

His inside 50s are the least effective in the competition.

Why isnt that mentioned??

We all knew EXACTLY how the Rodan to Port story would go.

First few weeks Oooh-Ahh about the pace, the scoops off the deck, the shimys and baulks and the sense of buzz.

Then people would actually say - "gee he gets caught a bit". "gee his man gets leather poisiing", "he doesn't actually kick as well as I thought". Once the shimmer begins to fade - he becomes a guy who only gets it 14 times, struggles to defend and turns it over. It just takes time for that initial show-room shine to fade.

true thats your opinion, and i totaly dissagree, this week wasn't his best his best would have been against west coast a team that sites at the top of the ladder, if he played like that yesterday you would have to shut your mouth you dumb shit, piss off to your own board and annoy your own kind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why so much anger? No need for insults.

All you've done here is throw a few hollow insults and insinuated that I claimed the weekend's game was his best for the Tigers.

Either way, I disagree with the point you tried to make based on something I never wrote. Stating the obvious, West Coast have a fantastic midfield and a weak forward line lacking quality talls. It's not too difficult for a loose man in defence to achieve those stats.

While Polak was running around picking up loose possessions, Ashley Hansen kicked 4.1 from CHF and Quentin Lynch kicked 4.2! Both players have been averaging less than 2 goals a game this year, but you think he had his best game this year.

Also, who do you think he would replace in our side?

Michael Johnson who also plays the loose man role, but has the ability to run the whole ground and still get back in time?

i thought haddrill went past polak as well. but the thing you over look is polak has been asked to play as a loose man in defence ruckman and forward through out most games hes played this yr. i think you are ignoring he has done an admirable job in all roles most weeks. once we get some talls back into the team i would like to see p[olak given a stopping job on his direct opponents.the next step in his improvement is to take on your pavlichs tredreas etc and stop them. i thought bowden should have swapped roles with him on pavlich at half time on sunday. as one who has seen heaps of polak i think his consistency and out put is way up on what it was at freo.he has a way to go but the signs are saying he is on the right track.hes put some bulk on he doesnt get pushed around so much and his second efforts are getting better he still needs to be more proactive than reactive. he has done enough thus far.by the way i thought he had a very good game on sunday.

Whilst its understandable why we let go of Rodan, surely there are others on the list that have less of a future than Rodan, who we don't need and who hadn't suffered a knee injury and were always going to take a while to get back into the hang of things.

Rodan was awful last year, no doubt about it, but people can't deny he's been very very solid this year for Port. And he hasn't been a front runner in a good side, because he played very well against Carlton when Port were shit.

The question would have been , will Rodan be in our top 22 in 2009-10 and if he is would that mean we are a finals contender ? The answer would be no.

He would have been sized up against Nathan Foley or Matthew White and I think the right decision was made.
Rodan has been doing OK as a fifth or sixth midfielder in a midfield that has been doing well but there are still questions over his accountablility ,decision making and kicking.
By all accounts a nice bloke but not heartbroken .

Haddrill would be past Polak when fit, but he has struggled with some injuries over time.

Polak has only played forward in very small stints with 0.4 goals a game and is rarely seen in the ruck with 3 hitouts on average a game.

You say you would like to see him given a stopping job, but he simply isn't capable. At Freo he never played well unless he was a loose man back, which just wasnt enough for us. Wallace likes using him in that position, because he gets a few possessions and makes the coach look like a savvy trader. The touches he gets aren't bursting out of the backline like Johnson, or man on man marking using strength like McPharlin on Richardson. He can't kick out of FB. He is onyl good when told to fill a whole, so he always knows where to be in position.

You agree that he needs to be more proactive, but he'll never have that opportunity if Wallace keeps playing him in that role. He is a reacitve player and always will be. I saw it during years of watching him play every game of his career.

hows he going now, caught a highlight the other night like de ja vu man, Rodan attemps a dangerous switch in the back half, suprise suprise, cut off by waite and goalllllllllllllllllllllllllllll:eek: some things never change:rolleyes:

His one error for the night. Nice selective writing Bo. ;) A half dozen or so players cost us goals from turnovers against Freo on the weekend and happens weekly. Did you see his great weaving goal up the other end and many other great in tight dashes and plays? Simply magic and very few in the comp could conjure a goal like that. Was always going to improve after his knee-reco. Poor and short-sighted decsion getting rid of Rodan. Is quick, dangerous and creative. Alot worse on our list.

GO TIGES!!!

Rodan was inconsistant in his first 3 years at Richmond...errr aren't the vast majority of young players inconsistant??? He then undergoes a knee reco., struggles to recover from it the following season (as most players do coming back from knees) and Richmond delist him

Sacked and paid out actually. Still had a year to run on his contract. First time in recent history we've done that. Tells me that despite the fact he's a good bloke, he was in cruise mode and simply not trying hard enough to regain his form. Thought he was safe - he was wrong.

Good luck to him at Port, hope he can resurrect his career beyond a year or two.

You cannot judge how long Polak has played forward and in the ruck based on stats.

They are a fair indicator. If you think that he has played more than his stats show us, then he must have been playing particularly bad in those roles.

Mate there would be very few Tiger supporters that feel sorry Rodan has gone.

I forget his name now but there was a guy who played for us and did nothing, went back to the SANFL and then got picked up by Essendon and it was all 'how stupid were Richmond!'. He played about 3 good games and I don't think he's on their list anymore.

If you're happy with him good luck to you.

Spot on depth player!
Get all our injured players back in that line up our 3 goal losses start turning into wins, get some confidence into our side they turn into pretty good wins, get more development into our kids confidence up and injured players back and im not overally worried about our list, and definately not concerned about losing rodan, although i hope he plays well for port (except against us obviously :D )

He is a 194 cm player, how many tap outs do you think he should win against genuine ruckmen?? The only reason he was in there was to compete. He would have played a percentage of every game in the ruck.

As for being forward, he is almost averaging a shot on goal a same. But have shots wouldnt indicate that he plays up the wings more when he is playing as a forward because we have 2 or 3 other KPP players in our F50.

Watch a game to see how long a player plays in each position because you cannot judge it on stats. Or is a guy like Aaron edwards not playing forward because he only average 0.8 goals a game.

He played a very small percentage and has played a massive chunk of this season as a loose man back.

Why not discuss my main point of him not getting a game for Freo this year.

If you actually watched the game vs West Coast you would have seen Polak played just about the whole second half in the ruck and was clearly BOG in the second half, pulling down big marks around the ground and setting up plays. So your argument about their big forwards kicking more goals than they average has nothing to do with Polak sorry mate.

He Didnt win many taps, (no disgrace there) but he turned the momentum and helped us get back into the game. That was the game where I thought, hey this guy could be valuable. Since that game hes grown in confidence and offers a steady hand and presence down back that we lack.

Im not sure what your objective is here? Are you trying to make yourself feel better by convincing yourself that Polak is no loss to the fremantle FC and offers nothing to the richmond FC? I can assure you, hes already won over the fans and is one of the few shinning lights of 07 for us. Hes a lot more than "just a loose man". Simmo has played 1 or 2 games, Richo rucked in another 2, who do you think has been helping out 20 y/o Pattison in the ruck the rest of the time? You point out his lack of tap out stats, big deal, hes not a ruckman, hes there to contest, give Patto a break and get some touches around the ground which he does very well.

No qualms that he has to take the next step soon and start taking the power forwards to be truly regarded as a key backman but the way he moves (a lot quicker and fitter than I remember him, stronger too) suggests he will be able to handle the step up.

To suggest Wallace plays him loose to look like a recruiting guru is pretty pathetic, obviously Wallace feels J.Bowden is still the better option. Polak is also coming from a fair way behind conditioning wise, so the way hes been eased into a regular senior spot and then nurtured as he finds his confidence and feet has been very well handled by our coaching staff.

Not sure what you were trying to achieve with your stats either. Its hardly as if he doesnt compare reasonably well to all of them. Mundy hardly takes the big forwards now does he?

But you can think what you like, just dont expect us to buy what your selling based on what you saw in his time at freo. Hes obviously woken up and have no doubt he is a much better player now than he was this time last year. Up to him how good he will be. But we're happy with the way hes progressing
