Analysis Rolling All-Australian team for 2021

What are people's thoughts about the CHB postion and Jacob Weitering v Allir Allir ?

Most people seem have locked in Weitering very early in the season, but I reckon Allir has been bloody good this year and would also be deserving

I realise it's an individual award and team success shouldn't matter, but the history of the All Australian awards has proven it DOES matter. Do people really think the selectors will name just one player (Wines) from a top four team and pick 2 or 3 players (Walsh, Weitering, McKay) from a bottom six team?

Port have one of the stingiest defences in the AFL and Carlton have one of the worst. Are we just gonna ignore that?

Weitering seems to come out ahead in the stats, but these can be misleading with defenders. Harris Andrews is statistically better than every defender except Lever, but I don't see anyone putting his name up for AA in 2021. Besides, I don't think Allir's dominance is always reflected in the stats. e.g. He was huge against Hawthorn a few weeks back - he KILLED us - but you wouldn't know from perusing the stats.

Every time I watch Port play, Allir always looks to me like one of the most dominant players on the ground.
alır is well ahead of weltering. even today where Dixon was well held for a chunk of the match it was the 3rd player to the contest wrapping up Dixon while a free weitering went at the ball by himself. the only reason weltering was near Dixon was to be where we would kick the ball.

alır also tends to zone off and play the ball rather than a shutdown role but dominates games when he's on.

the last time I looked at it I had Andrews, lever , and tight between may and alir for AA. Alir would be very very tough to miss. having said that I haven't paid attention to the lions and Andrews last few weeks so don't know if Andrews has kept that form up across that period.

Yep, reckon Aliir a lock after his last few weeks. Having an enormous year.

Tbf May has been better than Lever despite what the stats say imo
Really? In the MVP thread on the Demons board, your mates have Lever well in front of May
  1. Oliver__... 93
  2. Petracca... 84
  3. Lever....... 81
  4. Salem...... 71
  5. McDonald..49
  6. May......... 47
  7. Gawn....... 46

This is a 10-9-8-7-6 scoring system for the best 5 players in each round.
Looks pretty solid. It wouldn't surprise me if that's how Melbourne's best and fairest pans out.

Lever has received votes in 11 games. May has scored votes in 6 games.

Max Gawn is a surprisingly long way down in 7th place. He hasn't picked up any votes since Round 12
This corresponds with my own observation that he's been off the boil for a long time.

Is Gawn having the most overrated season out of all the All Australian contenders?

The average supporter, no matter how keen, is a nuffie.

They pay no heed to game-plan, or some of the other more boring parts of footy that the coaching staff value.

And you reckon the nuffies on the All Australian selection committee are any better? :D

AFL All Australian Selection Panel: Gillon McLachlan (chair), Kevin Bartlett, Jude Bolton, Steve Hocking, Glen Jakovich, Chris Johnson, Cameron Ling, Matthew Richardson, Nick Riewoldt, Warren Tredrea.

You reckon these blokes watch all 9 games every week and evaluate the game plans of each club and weigh up the sacrificial acts from all players?

Charlie Cameron really putting claims on that small forward spot.

Lever and Salem are more important to our team

Andrew’s, Allir and Lever would be my 3 tall defenders.

Carlton is too sh*t to have more than 1 AA. Maybe Walsh on the interchange bench. Or McKay because the lack of competition for tall forwards.

They'll be the AA selector's too.

46 goals for the year with 1 game remaining he is a lock
Not really. Charlie has 44 and 10 assists, Greene has 41 and 16, Fritsch only has 7 GA, which isn't great

alir is shockingly overrated. Recall Jeremy Cameron giving him a bath mid season and blowing him up exposing his poor tank. Think he kicked about 5 on him?? Don’t recall weitering getting his pants pulled down in this mannerism

Didn’t Weitering get like 7 goals kicked on him a couple of weeks ago by Larkey
