16. Lyon

Will be a hitters world cup. 400 will be crossed many times throughout imo. Guys like Khawaja and Handscomb are not the answer.

Lynn is a gut feel selection. Mitch Marsh could easily replace Stoinis.

Lyon leaves me a bit cold in one day cricket. Zampa is the next best i guess.

Really need Finch to come good. Otherwise replace with Short and bring in a reserve at 6.
Leaving S Marsh out all together?

Flipped around squad he was meant to be at 4 and push maxwell and stoinis down 1. Edited now. Originally had him opening with Finch.
Surely he deserves to stay at 3 after his form at 3 over the last 8 months.

Finch (c)
Warner
S.Marsh
Smith
Stoinis
Maxwell
Carey (wk)
Cummins
NCN/Hazelwood
Starc
Zampa

Reserve Batsmen: M.Marsh, Handscomb( reserve keeper as well), Short
Bowlers: NCN/Hazelwood, Richardson, Behrendorff.

I think you need a bowler who can bat a bit at 8. Looking back at 03, Andy bichel chimed in with some absolutely huge runs to save us in a couple of games. I actually think we have a very decent list of batsman to pick from, and bowlers too for that matter with Dorf and Richo putting their hand up.
You really don't want a long tail on english wickets, and at a world cup. Cummins is interesting given his rise over recent times but NCN might be well worth a look too. I'd take both personally. Siddle, Lyon, Stanlake, Turner are no goes for me. Who else comes out is a hard one. I think you have to bring in Smith and Warner personally, they're game-changers based on raw talent alone. Lynn has never performed at Intl level so I don't see the point, especially given his injury issues

Smith averages over 50 at 3 and 30 odd at 4. Swap him and Marsh

Squad of 15:

Finch
Warner
Smith
S.Marsh
Maxwell
Stoinis
M.Marsh
Carey
Cummins
Starc
J.Richardson/Hazelwood

NC-N, Hazelwood/Richardson, Zampa, Short/Khawaja/Handscomb.

If you want a specialist spinner you could drop M.Marsh for Zampa and move Carey to #7.

is it fair to say that after last night that the siddle and lyon experiment is over ?
or is it too soon, seeing there are still 11 odi's before the world cup ?

besides most of us armchair experts don't have either in the squad.

I still give lyon a slight chance, just depends if zampa and agar get opportunities and then grab them.

Don't mind that side when you replace Marsh with Zampa. Definitely need a front like spinner.

Siddle needs to be dropped now.

Lyon doesn't seem to have enough variation for the one day game. It seems very obvious where he is going to bowl every ball

Yeah I dont mind that they got the chance to experiment with them but probably time to move on from them. I'd want Finch to get some form soon as he isnt looking great

you have WA written all over you :)

in saying that WA were the best side in the JLT comp , only to get rolled in the semi, so I was only half joking.

what I was eluding to was that they won't take 2 uncapped players I wouldn't have thought. however there still are some odi's before the squad is picked.

How do I have WA written all over me? Is it because I follow the Eagles?

Haha, like I said the entire squad could be from Victoria for all I care. As long as they are the best 15.
My best squad is in f course debatable but it is my opinion.

People are funny around these parts. The want Victorian players in but only when Melbourne Stars aren't playing. It's a CA conspiracy to keep generic BBL franchise #8 down.

Richo, Marsh and Dorff are killing it and Stoinis has an excellent record and bowls without getting injured. They are right in the mix for Wold Cup spots. Turner is doing really well in the BBL but there's only so many spots in the middle order and he is a bit Scott Muller at the moment (can't bowl/can't throw) which hurts his chances. I'd like to see him get a chance this series seeing as we are treating the matches as warm ups to see how he goes. He'd be a good 5/6. I don't think Bancroft will get a look in but I also don't get the fascination with Carey. He's OK but hasn't done much and is VC.

Others: Lynn, Short, Behrendorff, Handscomb, Zampa and Paine (if they think his keeping is better than Carey's).

Random: James Faulkner

Love the above post with Maxy at 5. He will dominate at 5 and should get a decent amount of time to bat. The Indians had no clue when he was tonking them. Makes no sense to bring him in with an over to go

Don’t think there’s room for guys like Short or Lynn or Turner in the squad and not really sold on Khawaja either. Right now, leaning towards

Warner
Finch
SMarsh
Smith
Maxwell
Stoinis
Carey
Starc
Coulter-Nile
Hazlewood
Zampa

Hands comb and Head the reserve bats, MMarsh the alternative all rounder, any of Cummins, Behrendorff or Richardson to fill the two bowling spots.

Should make Handscomb wear the gloves and bring M Marsh in at number 7. Don't think Carey is an opener and don't really see him slotting in at 7.
