Rookie Brodie Moles set for Western Bulldogs opener

Yeah, I agree. The massive advantage Minson has over Roughead is his physical maturity. It's very hard for a 19 year old ruckman to hold a place in a side. Definitely rate Roughead though and would love to see him pushing for selection.

At the end of 2010 I dont think it will be Big Will that Roughead will be threatening Rocco.

I think it will be Hudson.

I don't rate Minson very highly but he is pretty good for a 2nd ruckman. Competes well and his hit-outs to advantage % is right up there. I actually think he is more of a 1st ruck than a 2nd ruck and is hurt by Hudson being so 1D. As you mention, it would be great to have a 2nd ruck who could offer something around the ground. Minson is a good ruckman but a poor resting ruck/forward.

Heard an interview Eade gave and mentioned Minson. He says his stats indicate that Minson's "tap to advantage" is number 3 in the competition. I think we need to shift our thinking about Minson back to pure ruck - instead of judging him and his iron gloves up forward.

As for Moles, I really can't see a midfielder getting dropped for him unless it's Ward if his form doesn't hold.

If i rated both Minson & Hudson, purely as ruckmen, i have them pretty equal right now, unfortunatly Minson can let himself down around the grounds with fumbly hands trying to pluck a grab, but his ruckwork is pretty good, he can also run & bounce, as well as being a decent shot for goal.

Hudsons strength is his 2nd, 3rd efforts around a pack, just burrowing in, but around the ground, he actually doesn't do that much.

But as far as tap rucking, pretty even, perhaps Minson slightly in front.

Interesting that Everitt contested a centre bounce, and layed it flat on Cooneys chest, it was obviouisly planned out before that ruck contest, and worked beautifully.

As for Moles, he has clearly shown so far that he is there abouts, and depending on match up's, could easily get a game round 1, there have been times, especially the game v Port where the intensity levels were right up there, and he passed with flying colours, i wouldn't say he has elite kicking skills, but he's no flake either, has kicked a few nice goals and hit team mates on the chest.

Who would he get ahead of? [say we remain injury free, he has been better so far than Ward, Addison, you could add Eagleton there as well, but thats a bit harsh given Eagles limited gametime coming back from injurym so Moles has the jump on him].

I think the one thing that is obvious is that he is good enough to get a game in our team, but agree with some others will just depend on match ups and he might need an injury or two, but Eade showed last year with Picken he was willing to play him so he might actually make the team. Been a good pick up regardless and i am sure we will see a bit of him this year.

Watching that game the other night, it struck me that we actually have got a bit of depth this year, and there will be some good players who will be missing out on a game that would easily get a game in most teams. Exciting year ahead.

I'm pretty much shocked at this guys ability already at top level, given that he was given no exposure to the senior level at Geelong.
Can't say I valued him, cause he was an unknown talent to most of us at Geelong.
Yes, he was amongst it in the AFL, but not even named as a senior emergency, think the Geelong coaches think tank needs a shake-up.
Think Rocket can develop Everitt to provide support for Lake and Williams on oppo talls (Stkilda and Hawthorn) and looked dangerous when forward on the odd occasion.
Its all upside.

Good luck next week.

Herald Sun: Brodie Moles is blossoming. March 7th

"...Eade clearly sees the talent that Moles possesses. He went out of his way to drag the rookie aside at quarter-time to give him a direct message.
"He said I was handballing too much. I am just getting used to the style of play here, because for two years at Geelong the emphasis was on handball," Moles said. "He told me to use my pace, to run, and to use my kicking skills more."

WTF would 6'4" 15 1/2 stone Everitt be getting put in a head to head situation with 6'0" 13 stone Picken ??????????

Your logic defies logic ??????

It's like comparing a Pineapple with a Grape !!!

Pineapples and grapes? I think you might be just short of a fruit salad just quietly.

I was responding to Insight's team list that had Everitt in and Picken out, I merely stated I can't see anyway Picken would be an emergency, while Everitt was getting a game, regardless of match ups. Everitt height is irrelevant, he may well be 193cm but he doesn't play tall in any way, he’s just another utility running player with almost no physical presence, if anything Picken provides more of a physical element than Everitt. They both play on a wing or halfback, with Picken having the extra string to his bow of being able to lockdown a midfielder.

Anyway, on the topic of Moles.

Still reckon we should’ve drafted Majak Daw, or Tehmal, or (insert the name of a TAC cup player who had a draft profile written about them in the lead up), Dalrymple and the recruiting team clearly have no idea what they’re doing!!

when picking our best 22 for round 1, do we pick players on past form? last years best 22, or players in form? this said if it on players in form right now then moles plays. I do think there a few spots up for grabs.

A very good point murphy2.

Lets hope they pick those who are in form and not those on past form. That said, Moles should get into our round 1 team if he plays well again on Saturday.

Going on recent history I think the regulars are not likely to get dumped for what many of us see as bad form but maybe that's why the selectors are on the selection committee and we aren't
