I dont want to read too much into it and for the sake of sounding like a dill but when Swallow or Drew or whoeever fronts up for a press conference they seem so well coached to not show any emotion. To reassure us that alls well and that we will review the mistakes.
I dont speak on behalf of all North Melbourne people but Im ******* hurting here.
I want nothing more than for the players to be successful. But its the same old same old.
**** the media and quite frankly **** us. Come out say it wasnt good enough. Our actions speak louder than words. We will deal with it as a playing group along with the coach and our response for the rest of the year will typify our output.
None of our players have put their necks on the line to leave themselves honest and open to results. We seriously have the most looked after and protected bunch of players in the league. Such a bunch of bitches who hide behind their words rather than their performance.

This needs to be printed out, and plastered all over Arden St.

"I understand the supporters get upset and we do too. We'll be going through the loss forensically any making sure everyone learns from it and knows what they need to work on to improve. But emotion only gives a temporary lift, we're about constantly reinforcing elite standard to our players so they understand how to execute consistently at a high level."

Too clam for my liking.

The Round 1 excuse doesn't cut it for me. I'm sorry but you've had 6 months to get excited and pumped for round 1, and skill errors can be permitted in round 1 but to let blokes take uncontested marks and come out and say we weren't ready for their pressure etc is just a flat-out cop out. Did you think they were going to come out and plod around and ease their way into the year? No, that's what WE DO! Anyone on here who has played competitive sport will know, when you are beaten like that it's a mental thing, not a skill thing. THEY ARE NOT a better skilled team than us. I can't cop that.
Unfortunately, once they kicked the 4 unanswered goals, it was always going to be a tough night. That's the problem with this group, mentally I don't think they believe they are good enough. When things go our way, we look unstoppable.. when things don't go our way, instead of working harder and believing we are good enough to ride the bad luck out and get on with it.. we think of the opposition as giants of some sort and play bruise free footy.
That presser was THAT awkward, especially when Drew was asked how we handled pressure and if we believe we have beaten those demons, the journo was all over him, he was on the ropes big time.. because he knows we haven't. I'd love to see a stat of games we have won when getting off to a bad start.. almost none I'd think. There are too many flat track bullies in the side, and I agree with above statements that there is discipline and blokes get away with murder. Like me right now writing this on work time, if no-one sees me or tells me off for it, I'll just keep doing it won't I? If my boss caught me and said he'd fire me next time he saw me on here, I'd do it from home. Simples.

This ISN'T something that I think will be changed in 1 week. I hate to say it, but JZ & cunners had a chance to really grab the game (& the other 21 blokes) by the nuts and in a group and say **** this we aren't going to stand for this shit.

Too many passengers, and while I think the playing group is skilled enough (apart from a few) until the mental barriers are broken and the boys turn into men, we will be mediocre... and I'm sure we are all sick of mediocrity.

I certainly get your point about punishing players and the putting a side on the park that will win.

I'd definitely swap Basti for Levi on Friday's effort and Patch is definitely out of the sub vest.

Our players appear dumb about what's expected of them, every one of them needs to know that they face being dropped for unacceptable performances. Time to send a message.

I'd love the selection committee to have the luxury to be able to send multiple messages this week but I'm a realist and know that we still have to focus on winning.

I think we have a problem with our environment from the outside looking in, there is no mongrel there.

You need mongrel to push your team. We have an overabundance of the quiet introvert, the laconic, the jokers, last thing you want in a trench is someone cracking jokes or huddling in the corner on his own.

We have too many jokers, not enough warriors.

I like this post. I feel very much the same way.

I'm glad were playing the dogs on Sunday - they have some hard heads in the middle and will make us earn out keep.

But if we were playing the hawks and lost by 20, we'd say that would be honourable and hide behind platitudes and appeasement for another week.

However I think I speak for the members and the North Melbourne community in general when I say a win against Footscray is demanded as an absolute minimum requirement.

Make no mistake I expect fire and fury for 4 quarters from my seat at Etihad on Sunday evening. I have heard all the words of reasoning from individuals this weak and a bit of angry rhetoric from the senior coach also.

There'll be nowhere to hide as far as I'm concerned at 7:30 on Sunday night.

I have faith in the club that they will have delivered as promised.

I wouldn't say it means nothing, the Dogs are a good side.

Really? When did that happen?

I am all for respecting the opposition, but if we are to be a legitimate finals team this year we need to be consistently beating teams like the dogs.

Of course, I have no confidence at all this will happen after Friday's debacle. But if we do lose to the dogs then the heat on the club/Scott will be triple what it is at the moment (and I think it's fair to say it's already pretty hot)

Tweet from NMFC on Petrie's press conference:

"all the expectation comes from external sources"

My question is do the players or club have any expectations???????

Personally, I could not give a stuff what the external expectations are but I do give a stuff if there are no expectations internally.

It is a weak cop out. The only reason the expectation isn't coming form internal sources is because nobody wants to be held accountable for failing to succeed.

If you can push the top sides and have tons of quality in the side you should have the expectation to make the top 4 and have success.

Boomer said in the Hun last week he thinks we can win the flag this year.

Me thinks that everyone at North is:

All wacked off of Scooby Snacks!
They need to get rid of the hip hop and dance music before they come out on the ground. I could come up with a playlist that would have them running out ready to murder opponents.

If we're also dropping Basti, Wright, McMahon etc it's very hard to drop Jack as well as we still have a game to win this week.

He's certainly droppable and if another half dozen players hadn't been equally as deplorable on Friday night he should be dropped this week. He's used all the credits in his bank. Same applies to Drew.

Agreed, the way i see it:

Wright out for Wood
McMahon out for Atley (Add another Mid, unsure who [Hine or Jacobs??])
Basti out for Levi
Goldi (if unfit) out for Curry
Grima (if unfit) out for Tippet

Can't drop Zeibs if we are dropping Basti

ABBA? :p

While I can understand JB saying it's ludacris to take our main contested ball winner out when we were beaten heavily in that area, and need him in there on the other foot, if you are paid to excel in a certain area and don't perform, shouldn't you be accountable and have to cop your whack? I'm def not on the "let's drop JZ wagon" but I just think JB might be adding to the whole mentality that you can pretty much do what you want at the club and get a game the next week.
