Roos takes biased commentating to a new level

That was so disgusting to watch. Not only does he miss every Essendon free kick but when a Sydney player is caught holding the ball with 4 minutes to go what do we hear? Paul Roo's disgustingly say he didn't have it.

But if that wasn't enough for him, on top of constantly adding y to everyone's name, he decided to scream OH NOOOOO when Goodes went to play on with 11 seconds to go.

He needs to be fired immediately.

Stop being so melodramatic and precious. His comparative advantage as an analyst is his insight on Sydney, in the same way that Tim Watson provides insight on Essendon. The last thing we need is more commentators that offer nothing of value ala Robert Walls.

As for the 'nooo' comment I'd bet that the same sentiment was reflected in the homes of thousands of neutrals.

Neither did Roos. I can concede Roos does focus his commentary on the Swans and that would grate for other supporters, but as I said earlier, now people are blowing up and looking for the smallest remark. This whole thread was started by a supporter who was mad about a comment that Roos didn't even make.

If you did not hear Roos nearly jump out of the box last night when Goodes went to pass the ball off, then you are deaf or refuse to acknowledge it for some reason. Even another commentator remarked about how Roos nearly jumped out of the box. I don't care about the example the OP gave, it's obviously there.

Adam Goodes goes to pass it off...

"NO! NO! OH!"

Assclown.

That was bad . Also the ' unfortunate ' comment when the push in the back in the goal square happened .
However all in all he was good for the rest of the game , he even mentioned how bad a couple of those umpire call's were against us .
We were crucified by the umps though , no doubt ! I thought all 3 caller's missed that through out the whole match .

His shrieking when Ted Richards walked he ball over the line was a bit "Walls, Lane, Maher" over the top, but it's only a few times a match.

I've aknowledged it already. What I'm discussing is the fact that people are being a bit stupid about it, highlighting everything they can. Commentators make remarks about how unfortunate a play is or how they don't know why x or y didn't get a free or a team was robbed all the time. Every week.

It was the first thing they played tonight on "On the Couch". Gerard joked that Roos had taken biased commentary to a new level and Roos laughed that he was right.

If you're gonna hire a coach the following year after he stops coaching then you're gonna expect him to be biased or play favourites with his former club.

I honestly think that none of them care - it's out in the open, they have a laugh about it and they move on.

I guess if it really bothers you then listen to the radio commentary instead.

in years past it would be frowned upon, but these days you are right - commentators etc do laugh about it and admit it.

makes sense given the footy media are very close knit and buddy buddies.

PS: do foxsports sponsor the swans? notice ads promoting swans home games

Most of Fox Sports' viewership is in Sydney (granted, watching NRL), so it makes sense for them to advertise Swans games.

Anyway, it's obviously Roosy is biased towards the Swans. But I really don't care. To me it's a breath of fresh air. It gets tiring of everyone in the media having no idea about your team or taking digs and giving back handed compliments at every possible opportunity, as has been the norm in the media with regards to the Swans for the last ten years.

i wouldve thought more people watch afl related shows/games than nrl on foxtel.

but yes i take on board what you said.

IMO foxsports is too biased towards all sydney sporting teams. yes they're based there but really do need a lesson in impartiality.

I think it would be nigh impossible for an ex coach, who recently left his club on good terms and is probably great mates with a lot of the players, to sit through a nail biter and keep his natural feelings and reactions to himself when he's expected to commentate.

Eddie couldn't do it and he never played or coached.
Watson can't do it.
Dunstall tries but over does it the other way.
Quartermain, Walls, Lane, Maher...forget it.
Even Blight with his new adopted team struggles.

I don't mind it if there's balance overall, in fact I think it would be great if you had 2 biased commentators (one for each side) going toe to toe ala Tony Grieg and Bill Lawry.:thumbsu:

Exactly, would have loved to hear the great Ted 'Mr Football' Whitten commentate a state of origin game with Neil 'Knuckles" Kerley.
