NORTH Melbourne coach Brad Scott says the Kangaroos will look to follow the AFL's expansion clubs and recruit a rugby league star.

Scott said he was encouraged by the AFL's recent signings of NRL players Karmichael Hunt and Israel Folau, who will line up for new teams Gold Coast and Greater Western Sydney respectively.

Scott had a number of rugby league players in mind who he believed could make the transition to AFL.

Billy Slater, Make it happen Euge. :thumbsu:

Is it symptomatic of my attitude towards football debate that my first thought after reading this is that Scott will be accused of diverting attention from our shit performances - by supporters of other clubs, and our own?

Nailed it in one.:thumbsu:

I wonder what next weeks distraction will be?

I thought North were trend setters? Not sheep. Ooooh lets recruit someone with tree trunk legs because its trendy...FORGET IT! How about we worry about developing our list of aussie rules footballers first.

GO ROOS! :thumbsu:

Slow news day, perhaps?

I wasn't there but I dare say it was nothing more than a throwaway answer to a question about a fairly big story in footy this week.

This article is a little misleading if you listen to his press conference.

Yep, as I just posted on the press conference thread. Brad's seen how difficult it is to have kids in the emerging markets get excited about AFL. That's where he was coming from initially, and he was later asked light heartedly if he had anyone in mind himself.

To be honest, we already have one "athletically gifted" code switcher, and he's languishing in the VFL 2nd's, so i'm not sure how feasible it is. Much rather throw shitloads of money at a young up and coming AFL player to get them to join the club.

Not a stupid idea at all, i believe we do have room on the salary cap, and there would be two main targets id be looking at in

FuiFui MoiMoi is a human wrecking machine, players have said that he is the one player that they least like to play against because it is like running into a slab of concrete... imagine him playing off half forward, running through the middle, purely an inforcer

or

Jamal Idris, at 19, he deffinitely still has time to learn the game properly, he is HUGE, height and strength wize, could play out of full forward, would be reinventing the idea of a power forward.

I agree that this is more or less an attempt to defect attention from our performances. But I am entertaining the idea. North is not respected by the media or the general public and a move like this could place us back in popular forums. I think that on-field performance is a priority, but i feel like we are becoming a "nothing club" for lack of better words.
