yeh, he's selfish, what else is nicks going to say? I judge him by his own words and actions. Any reason thst you can think of that he wasn't dropped to sub on Thursday at selection? When was the last time someone in the 22 became the 23rd? The sub has been around for quite a few years, so cast your mind back.
It’s the Trent cotchin play

Richmond did this exact thing. They knew Cotch would be sub but didn’t want to “drop” him knowing he would end up in the team and create unnecessary headlines/speculation

I don’t know how people don’t see this and think it was a backflip.

True to form for the crows. The old and delusional campaigners will love this. Clearly how we treat our old worn out players is correct and that's why we have been so competitive for the last five years.

Happened a couple of weeks ago? Reckon it was Cotchin
They may have waited late on it to see if Port were going to start Boak or not and matched it up. Who knows

Edit - perhaps they didn’t want the showdown week all about Rory so that’s why they did it that way. Can you imagine the Adelaide media if he was dropped for that game. Would have been the only story for the week

What do we make of the other players getting around Rory so much after his goal?

Had Nicks/Sloane used it as a motivator before the game? Ie boys, Rory has volunteered to make himself sub... wants to see Soligo get a full game... taking one for the team

Did Rory tell the lads that he was retiring at the end of the season?

Or did the players just see a revered senior player get shunted into the sub role (something we've never done before as a club that I can recall, very much against our culture) and had a lot of empathy for him?

I suspect the players know the end is near and while it was actually a comical mark in the end it looked like a hanger. So why not enjoy a club great adding one more thing to a highlight reel in a match that kept our finals hope alive against our arch rival. Just enjoy it for what it is

It feels on here sometimes that not many people have been involved - or have forgotten what it’s like - to be involved in a footy club over a long period of time

These types of moments are always well celebrated by the young boys

If youre a bigfooty numpty all you see is the playing side to these sorts of things. If youre an actual list manager, having contracts finalised earlier (and for longer) gives you more certainty around your salary cap position into the future giving you an easier time when attempting to get people in via trade.

Why why are Crows going to give Sloane another year as just irresponsible on all ways with not only to our actual game ,but holding up development of our future players .
But even more importantly tarnishing the name of Rory Sloane not the courageous player who was heart and soul of club to where it is massive frustration every time he is picked.
Come on Nicks and co make tough decisions,

Most of our worn out old players we jettisoned in the last 5 years

Betts JJ Talia Lynch Gibbs & Brown (paid out)

There’s a third of the team we culled and paid to get out of the squad

Now we have 5 old blokes in the entire squad - I think it is understandable the strategy changes

I would personally retire Rory this year but understand they may want him around another year. Will be interesting to see how they use him

There's urgent and non-urgent though, important and not-important

Really don't get this one at all, sentimental stuff aside, he brings absolutely nothing to the team at this point in time. Again one of these baffling situations where they are unable to make the right call on some of these players. Watching Sloane trying to cover the ground next year will be painful viewing.

Could be BSing, but Rory says no new contract yet

He didn’t sound confident, reckon we are waiting out the year and Crouch’s resurgence has to have them thinking. They are watching the same games so no way they can’t see Sloanes recent deterioration.

Did I hear correctly, did Sloane refer to himself as playing some outstanding football or the club? I sure hope it was the latter.

That makes sense. “Rory, we can only take one of you or Matt into next year, and his form has our hands tied”

Easier to get players in by trade if you’ve got an extra list spot and $350k/year uncommitted.
Easier to do everything when you don't have your ass on the line and can pretend that injuries arent a thing.

Easier to pretend that every trade is a done deal prior to the end of the trade period and that no plan will ever stuff up/ be stuffed up by the club losing the player.

Easier to pretend that players don't lose confidence or drop their heads after a bunch of bad losses (caused by, for instance, a high number of injuries coupled with a lack of depth).

Easier to pretend that everything has huge margins for error and can be left to the last minute.

Easy, easy, easy, when you live in la-la land.

My delusional hope is that this is a David Mackay offer - a pretend public offer so he can turn it down and appear altruistic.

Delusional because I genuinely think David was offered a real contract, and that Rory would turn one down.
