Is Ross still the man for the job?

I don't know how you can defend the coaching today. We needed goals, and our talls were all up the ground with a few smalls inside 50 for the majority of the game.
Because I watched the game and saw the problem was we didn't get first hands on the ball in the middle.

A fit Sandilands and I think we win that game, by a bit too.

Oh come on...

So last week they ignored Ross and kicked 140 points but this week they decided to listen to him and that's why we lost? That's absurd.

I don't have much faith in him as our coach, but he's on a hiding to nothing if he gets no credit for us winning and takes all the blame when we lose.

The differential between last week and this week against two poor teams is just ridiculous. The last few years early on we have had a one off good attacking game followed by plenty of defensive ones. That falls on him.

You are better than this statement Yakka. Gold Coast played hard, well and for 4 quarters, whatever we might all think of them, they played outside of their skins today.

I'm quite shocked that everyone thinks playing Hogan in the midfield is a good idea when we only scored 58 points in a game of Footy. We didn't recruit him as a midfielder.

I agree entirely. It'll likely be his undoing.

But that still doesn't justify cherry picking which results can be attributed to the coach.

I froth with the best of them but we've outperformed and now underperformed from 2 games. Hard to be mad at a 50/50 record, putrid as today was.

Outcoached today by a young coach in his second season.

Can someone explain why when we’ve got so many tall forwards we mostly kicked long to Schultz, Colyer, Walters and Brayshaw.

The last kick inside 50 for us we had McCarthy vs 5 GC defenders with Tabs standing around watching from 10m away. Where was Hogan? Where was Lobb? Darcy?

I think we need to remember that less than 18 mths ago GC we’re in crisis, losing their coach and a number of staff and players. There were calls for them to be shut down or relocated.

They are just over 12 months into a major rebuild. We’re over 3 years into ours. Our list is much better. Our team on paper was much better today. Not good enough.

Look FreoRicci, I'm not against criticising Ross. Its his responsibility to get the guys up for games and for whatever reason, that clearly didnt happen today.

From what I see at the moment, our plan A is gold, looks a million dollars but we struggle massively under pressure with disposal (more than most teams). We also dont have a plan B and look completely lost when its not going our way.

But come up with some legitimate criticism. You have proof from 7 days ago that he is trying to be more attacking.

Today was as bad as it gets just like last week was as good as it gets. Thats not good enough as the side gets more mature there simply has to be less of this shit (this may as well be a 100 point loss as far as I'm concerned) but as I pulled theGav56 up in his thread that went too early, you cant chuck a hissy fit for one week. Its got to be over a block of games
But why revert back to plan B, to the stuff we dished up in the pre season? No need. We just had a defensive set up, all game. Against Gold Coast inexcusable

Tabs led to the man, wanted a kick on the lead. Hogan was on the wing. Lobb wasn’t anywhere near the 50. The play we set up up forward, was garbage coaching

But are we ever likely to see this?
Sandi is nearer 40 than 30.
Many on here believe we should remove him from the list completely.

We can’t fluctate of kicking 130 pts, brings Hogan in and only kick 58. That’s druven by Ross. First quarter was pathetic. Didn’t change the plan after that.
Why is Cerra across half back?

We were getting smashed in the midfield and had to try something. Our midfield is pretty weak in the absence of Sandilands and Neale. Darcy is well below AFL level at the moment, Brayshaw is struggling too. Mundy was well down on form today which hurt us a lot. I'm not saying Hogan is the answer there but there's no point having all your good players in the forward line if you can't get it over halfway.

Did Hogan in the midfield turn the game for us though? We still lost. I remember a patch of play in the game where Gold Coast had missed all their opportunities and we kicked 2-3 goals from few inside 50s. It's not like Hogan into the midfield was purely a move based on today's game. He has been floating around there in the JLT cup too. I just think it's pointless for a team who struggles to score as it is, to finally recruit a big name gun forward only to play him in the midfield. There are other things we could've done, such as Walters or Cerra in there.

There's no point arguing this if you're going to be so blinkered.

All I can say is that your assertion that it was all the players last week and now it's all on Ross this week is garbage.

Yeah, Coz Lyon coached sides have a consistent history of scoring 140 points per game. It wasn't an aberration or anything. Unbelievable. Do you actually think that Ross went into the game expecting to score 140 points? All he cared about was keeping North to < 70 points.

So, in your thinking, how much was down to the coaches and how much was down to the players, this week vs last?
